“Well, immediately after he pulled out of the car dealership’s parking lot, my dad knew exactly where his first stop was going to be. You see, he had his eyes set on this girl in his math class, who sat in front of him and would help him out with his assignments sometimes. It was a small town, and he knew where she lived. He pulled up to her house, rang the doorbell, and asked her if she wanted to go for a drive. She accepted his invitation, and they drove around almost all night.
“My mom says that she fell in love with him that night. Dad says that he fell in love with her long before then. That night turned into more nights just alike. With these same wheels rolling down the highway, it led to my dad getting on his knee and proposing. Then that developed into them buying a house, and a few years later I was born.” Lost in my own story, I notice she’s snuggled into my side a little more, and her hand is softly rubbing my thigh. Glancing quickly towards her, she is perfect, and she fits perfectly right here in this truck, right here with me.
She is so quiet that I almost miss what she says. “I know exactly that feeling that your mom felt. I feel it too, Zane. I want to keep the wheels turning with you, and this truck, and see where the road takes us.”
