Defying the Alpha Page 20

by Emilia Rose

“Everything is going to be okay,” I said to her as I brushed some hair out of her face. “Everything will be great.” But I was saying it more for myself than I was for her. I needed something to believe in, and as crazy as it was, Vanessa gave me hope.

Someone who had once made my life hell had given me so much hope.

For fifteen minutes, I sobbed in her bed and stared up at the dry and drab ceiling. “Thank you for everything that you’ve done for this pack.” I stood up and brushed another strand of her hair out of her face. “I don’t know if I’ll ever get the chance to see you again, but I wanted to say thank you.” I leaned over her and pressed my lips to her cheek. Her heart monitor skipped a beat, and I actually smiled. “You haven’t gone unnoticed.”

Then, I walked out of her room and back down the stairs to meet Roman, who had calmed down, and Kylo, who stood next to him, gripping his shoulder.

I walked right past them, grabbing them by the hands, and toward my office. “Come on. We have a Moon Goddess to save and a god to kill.”
