She gave a slightly embarrassed smile. ‘I…I suppose you’re right. I never thought about it that way.’
‘As for the Miranda…’ He took her by the hand and headed for the door. ‘Follow me. I’ve got a little surprise for you.’
He led her down the hill towards the Land Rover. Reaching in, he took a pair of binoculars from the shelf under the dashboard and handed them to her. ‘Look at your boat and tell me what you see.’
She focused the glasses and stared through them for a full minute before handing them back with a frown. ‘There are men on the deck, Nikos. What are they doing to my boat?’
‘Carrying out the orders I gave them first thing this morning.’ He glanced at her sideways and grinned apologetically. ‘You see, even before you agreed to marry me I was making plans. Those men down there are about to give Miranda a complete overhaul and refit. By the time they’re finished the living accommodation will be as good as anything you’ll find on our luxury cruisers.’ He took the glasses from her and tossed them back in the Land Rover then put his arms around her waist and said gravely, ‘Miranda is a grand old lady. She may have seen better days but she’ll never end up on the scrap heap as long as you and I are still alive, darling. She’s given us too many good memories for that.’
She smiled dreamily up into his eyes. ‘Like the time you fixed her rudder and I had to wash your back?’
He pulled her closer. ‘The way she battled through that storm. And the first time we made love. On deck…under the stars.’
‘And the next morning,’ she reminded him, ‘when you tossed me overboard—and I was sure I would drown but you made sure that I didn’t…in your own special way.’
They looked into each other’s eyes, sharing the memories…the laughter…the danger…sharing love. Their lips finally met with a tenderness that said it all. After all that they’d gone through theirs was a love that simply had to last forever.
