Everyone breathed more easily except for Akamatsu and Beffort who, from now on, would live waiting for the next attack.
“Yosho,” Beffort offered, “since you aren’t going back to Japan until tomorrow, how about getting good and smashed?”
The Japanese frowned. “To forget all this we’ll have to at least be under the table!”
Beffort took his arm and pretended to be cheerful, “The hardest part will be finding a table! Tonight the whole city is going to be celebrating the death…”
Akamatsu did not respond to the joke. Strangely, he had the feeling that he was running around on a planet that was condemned to disappear shortly and everyone he met was already as good as dead. For him and Beffort, an endless nightmare was beginning.
Perhaps that was the final revenge of Madame Atomos?
