The Alias Men

Agent Waters added, “You can come back again during school vacations, and each summer—if you want.”
I looked at the brochure. There was a fancy-looking building on the front, and the usual boring description inside, to impress the parents. But then I read the fine print at the very bottom. Pandora, Inc. Truth was, I felt kind of nervous. And a little scared—what missions and bad dudes were waiting for me if I said yes?
Grandpa looked up from his crossword. He didn’t need to say anything—when you’re family, sometimes you already know what someone’s going to say before they do.
Geronimo.
Grandpa smiled.
And that’s how I ended up joining Pandora as a junior secret agent—for real this time. So if you hear some news report about strange things happening in Rome or London, or even in some small town in the middle of nowhere, it might just be about a Dangerous Double and Pandora.
And about me. Agent Linc Baker.
You believe me, right?
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
My name is on the cover, but it takes a team to turn Linc’s story into a book. Here are my humble thank-yous.
First, thanks to my agent, Stephen Barbara, for always knowing just what to say, and adding priceless creative input. He’s kind of a rock star, I think.
I may be far away from New York, but a phone call with HarperCollins Children’s always makes me feel like I’m right there. Many, many thanks to my editor, Alexandra Cooper, who is brilliant, meticulous, and kind—she’s every writer’s dream editor. Thank you to Alyssa Miele, for helping make the story so much better. Thanks to all the people at HarperCollins Children’s who make this book look (and read) fantastic.
A writer needs friends, and I have them all over the globe. Thank you to Deb and Jenny, my friends in Colorado, Wordsmiths, and SCBWI Southern Breeze for making me feel at home.
My family in Holland gets extra credit this time, for giving me inspiration for Linc’s wonderful family (minus the cars and grumpy Grandpa anyway). Thank you to my parents for fostering my love for books and libraries.
Thank you to Jason for allowing me to disappear into an imaginary world when I needed to. To my daughters, Tyne and Nika, who have the best imaginations (thanks for the great ideas!).
Last but not least: thank you to my devoted Linc fans. You make all the difference.
