Control Us (Next Generation Book 1) Page 28

by J. M. Walker

“I…not yet.” I placed him in his bassinet that Luna had moved into the kitchen while she cooked and cleaned.

She nodded, kissed my cheek again, and went back to preparing supper.

“I can’t believe he’s almost six months,” I said, staring at our son in awe.

Luna laughed lightly. “Time flies when you’re having fun.”

I grinned, continuing to stare at something we made. A human. We made a human being. It shocked the hell out of me every time I saw him. And the way Luna was with him? She was my hero. She cleaned, cooked, took care of our son, all while I worked. She was the strongest woman I knew. Hell, she kicked my ass every damn day just by giving me one of her smiles.

We hadn’t been married for long but I had been hers forever.

“You good?” Luna asked later that night.

Benjamin was in her arms, laying against her chest, sleeping peacefully.

I pulled her against me, careful not to disturb him. “I am, Luna. You have no idea just how good I really am.”

“I love you,” she murmured, her eyes fluttering closed.

“I love you too, Moonbeam.” I kissed the top of her head.

As both her and our son slept against me, I still couldn’t believe that this was my life. After having years of pain, I never imagined that things would turn out this way.

While I saw a psychiatrist to help me with my thoughts and the rage coursing through me, Luna was the one who truly healed me. Her love gave me the strength I needed to get by, and I could never thank her enough for that.

  For not giving up.

  On our friendship.

  On our love.

  On us.
