  “This cannot be!”

“By the law of the code Alkazar's breath was removed.”

“Surely you jest.” She smiled. “He would not have requested this of you.” She turned to address Omad. “Declare to me Alkazar is fit and well.”

Omad did not dare utter the lie. He lowered his eyes to the floor.

“Why did you grant him this?” she cried. “Why?”

“He did not suffer pain,” Omad informed her, hoping that his words would make a difference.

“I begged him not to abandon hope, Omad. The Oracles prophesied our destiny together.”

Omad looked to Valcan, then to Pertius, for they had not been informed of the Oracle of late. They had no answer for her.

“We ought to hasten if you are to depart, my lady,” Omad reminded her.

“Certainly, we will,” she replied. “Only first, I desire to bid farewell to Alkazar. Where is he laid? Where rests his body?”

“Alas, under his request his body was burnt and his ashes scattered,” Valcan told her.

“Then tis over,” she spoke without feeling. “I remain with naught, not even a chance to pay my respects. There is naught to prolong my stay. Convey me away from this cursed land. I am prepared for departure.”

She walked through the city as if in a dream, wondering if she would remember her duration as an illusion, a figment of her imagination, or if it would be recalled as genuine memories.

The citizens of Tsinia came to bid her farewell. All were tearful by her departure, and the sorrowful story the name Thya brought with it. Would she be remembered as their saviour, the princess who defeated the warlord of Senx, or would it be the memory of her fatal love for Alkazar that burned into their memory?

Her faithful servants bowed their heads as she expressed her gratitude.

“Valcan, you have surpassed your loyalty to me. I could never repay you for your aid. I will miss you, dear friend.”

Valcan bowed and kissed her outstretched hand. A tear dripped down his cheek. He was too choked up to reply.

“Pertius, you instructed me well, and yet there is much more I could absorb from you.”

“I appreciate your kind expression, my lady. Yet I am doubtful there is more I could tutor. You grasped an understanding so bizarre I cannot fathom. You were familiar with the code prior to our beginning.”

“I desire upon you a contented existence, and I demand you wed soon.” She smiled at her own words.

“Good Athron, you bestowed hope to me when all was lost, and for this, I will always be grateful.”

Athron took hold of her hand and squeezed it gently.

“Heed the Oracle, my lady,” he told her. “Though all seems lost, tis far from over. Do not fail to retain faith.”

Thya smiled at him. If only she held as much belief as he. She would indeed retain a contented existence.

“Dear Omad, our parting bears with it great sorrow. Though regretfully I will convey to you that I hope we never encounter one another again. I feel I possess naught, save sad memories. Regardless of this, I present my oath and will retain it. If Tsinia is ever in requirement of their princess, I will return. I entrust the ruling of Tsinia to you. Sight that my land is rich, and rule my subjects wisely. Bestow your vow to me that you will not hesitate in my recall should the need arise.”

Omad took hold of Thya's hand and bent down on one knee.

“I pledge that if Tsinia is ever in requirement of its princess, you will be summoned without delay. Remain with you the light of Tsinia,”

Omad placed a chain around her neck, on it hung an oblong shaped, grey crystal.

“If one of your own steps upon Earth, you will receive awareness. The crystal will light in warning of their arrival.”

The orb then began to appear.

“To my kinsmen,” she called out, “Thya, Princess of Tsinia, Guardian to the Changlins, desires for you lengthy existence and contentment. We could encounter one another again. If this does not come to pass, never forget your plight and how fortunate you are. Farewell, my friends.”

Thya did not know of another Tsinian, some way off, who was speaking his goodbyes.

“Farewell my love, till we unite again. My love will stay in your heart forever more,” Alkazar whispered his words out of the window of his temporary prison.

Just before Thya stepped into the light, she became alert, as though she had woken from a strange dream. Questions raced through her mind.

Where would she arrive? How long had she been absent? Did she still have a job? She looked like someone who had emerged from a fancy dress party. It was too late to worry about that now. She would soon come face to face with those dilemmas.

Squeezing her eyes shut, she stepped into the circle of bright light.
