“One would think the big ones would come and drink.” Jack muttered completely unaware that he was even speaking aloud.
Coi gave a girlish laugh and squeezed his hand “My love? Here we walk hand in hand on a beautiful beach of white sand. The sun is shining, the white billowy clouds are drifting by, and you are walking with, in your words, the most beautiful woman that you’ve ever seen…” she playfully elbowed him and then laid her head against his shoulder.
“…and all you want are footprints?”
Jack, still with his rifle held at the ready in his other hand smiled sheepishly.
“Sorry honey, but your safety is the only thing I worry about.” He checked behind them as he scanned the miles of empty beach and then saw the same in front of them. Of course it was more the parts that he couldn’t see around large bends of the terrain where rocky cliffs reached out toward the clear blue waters and hid the beach before them around another bend. Carefully skirting another cliff that nearly reached the water…more beach stretched on for miles and nothing but white gleaming sand and high cliffs could be seen. Scattered here and there were areas that had come crashing down creating passages up to the great jungle, but Coi insisted upon staying on the sandy expanse.
“I just can’t understand why there are no dinosaurs. I mean look out there, it’s a sea of freshwater, and why don’t they come to drink?”
Coi giggled softly trying not to make her love feel like he wasn’t protecting her. She pointed along the white sands in which they walked. From the water’s edge to the high cliffs, was the length of a football field in most places, half of that was low growing vines and only ankle high grass of some sort like he’d never seen before. Now and then there was a stunning mix of wild flowers, and Coi could see that confused her love even more, none of the little dinosaurs were running around feasting on them. She smiled as she could nearly read his mind and finally had to end his worrying.
“My love?” her hand darted from as far behind them as he could see, to as far in front of them as he could see before the cliffs turned in toward the jungles above.
“Those red flowers on those bushes, they are deadly to the dinosaurs. We call them potchu. Do you remember back in the cavern I told you that we burnt it to kill Tulchulos? Eating the bushes or just the flowers will kill all but the largest creatures, and even then will make them so sick that they would be easy prey for anything that wanted to eat them. The meat eaters that eat a dinosaur poisoned by potchu will become sick or even die because the meat becomes toxic until it works its way out of a sick one’s system.”
Jack looked at the lush greenery and the four foot high much darker green shrubs with the brilliant red flowers…there were hundreds of them.
Coi slipped her arm through his and smiled.
“So you can see my love by the emptiness of this beach,” she chuckled “as Jan would say, they avoid it like the plague. Jan said her people…the ones they called scientists, thinks it may give off a scent that warns the dinosaurs not to eat them. To humans they smell like roses, whatever those things are.” Coi smiled that wonderful smile that Jack so loved. “Someday I would love to see one of your roses.”
Jack gave her a little hug “And someday, with a little luck, you shall.” he smiled and went back to constantly checking as he never trusted anything that was said to be safe. Nothing was going to harm his love if he could avoid it. What Jack couldn’t see was the sad look on Coi’s face…or at least she didn’t think he did, but Jack was on alert and noticed everything.
“Ok what’s with the long face?”
“My face is still the same as it always has been my love?” she quietly muttered as he gave Jack a puzzled look.
“No baby, I meant…it’s an expression meaning someone looks sad.”
“Oh,” she whispered sadly “I cannot ever go to your world my love.”
“I know Coi, it’s that frequency thing.” he sighed “Look baby, I’m guessing that if that portal changed our frequencies to this world if we can find whoever created it, they might know how to vary everyone’s frequency so that they could go home, or choose whatever reality they want to go to.”
A faint glimmer of hope shone upon Coi’s face “Oh Jack…do…do you really think so?”
“I don’t know hon, but it’s within the realm of possibility.” Jack was about to try to reassure her more, but they came upon the area where the cliffs started to arch inland and the beach narrowed. The hesitant Jack had to walk among the grass and potchu. Coi chuckled at his reluctance and to show him there was no danger she reached out, plucked one of the huge red flowers and carefully placed it in her hair, behind her right ear. To Jack’s amazement she licked the milky white sap off her hand…and made a horrible face.
“See silly, no harmful effects, but it is horribly bitter.”
“Then why the hell did you lick your hand? Sheesh!”
Coi again slid her arm through his and giggled “So you’d stop tiptoeing through the potchu like you were afraid to let it touch you.”
Jack grinned a sheepish grin and snorted “Was that obvious was I?” and plucked a flower and put it in his mouth.
“OH GOD NO!” Coi shouted and Jack spit it out and rapidly wiped his tongue with his short shirt sleeve. He looked over to Coi for advice what to do next…but she was standing there with both hands over her mouth laughing her ass off. With tears of laughter rolling down her cheek and the fact that she was not able to speak, she plucked a flower and put it in her mouth, chewed a few times and spit it out… “Was just kidding.” she spit again “But as you can see the worse tasting part is the sap.”
“Not funny.” Jack snorted and then grinned. Coi giggled playfully and grasped his hand as she headed around the cliffs…and froze! Coi stopped so suddenly that he nearly ran into her, but it took but seconds for him to see why as he carefully moved in front of her for a better look.
There before him was a large cove over a mile across with towering cliffs that ringed it and formed over a half mile arc to the center. Five hundred foot cliffs ringed the cove and bright sunlight beat down on the cliffs to show a myriad of wooden bridges and rocky ledges that led to at least fifty caves of varying sizes. All along the ladders and bridges were men dressed as Jack imagined pirates and buccaneers might dress, but then he saw some Mayan women and a few Mayan warriors dressed the same way as the whites.
In the center of the cove were several wooden structures that jutted out into the water and to the far center a large sailing ship that appeared to be under construction.
Jack was as stunned as Coi and that became apparent as she looked to him and softly muttered “My God, I have never seen this. My father and I visited their mesa, but never have seen this cove, just the top of their mesa.”
“Their mesa?” Now Jack was confused, but Coi pointed upward and towering above the five hundred foot cliffs was what appeared to be the top of a mesa in the distance just past the center of the cove.
“I had heard rumors that there are passages deep within their mesa that come down to the waters. We never came to that side of their mesa, we just meet in their trade areas, as they do with our people when they come to trade, we do not want someone that someday might become our enemy to see all of our settlements.”
“Understandable.” Jack replied as he felt Coi gently tug on his arm to move back the way they had come.
“Perhaps it is best that we never saw this. Their captain might not want this part of their community to be known.”
“Aye lass, you hit thee old nail on thee head.”
Both looked up so quickly they both nearly fell over backward to see two of the pirates standing upon a ledge fifteen feet over them…and both held rather nasty looking flintlock pistols.
“Uh-oh.” Coi muttered softly as she looked back to Jack “Sorry baby, I know you don’t like that word, but…”
Jack nodded “Yeah…uh-oh.”
Chapter 20.
The one pirate waved his flintlock in
the direction of the settlement and as the lovers walked along the sandy beach, he followed along the rocky ledge keeping them covered from above.
People began to stop what they were doing as the pair walked into the settlement and soon stood in the center of several structures as the one guard left to return to his post and three others took over.
As a large crowd gathered and were waved back to a distance by the guards, a large door opened and two men walked out to take a post on either side of the door.
A large man dressed like something out of a ‘50s pirate movie stepped out onto the wooden porch. Striped pants, a billowy white shirt and a wide black leather belt surrounded his rather rotund stomach. Upon his flaming shoulder length hair sat a typical pirate hat and his flaming red beard was tied with tiny black bows.
Jack nodded politely, but his in his mind he thought “You’ve got to be kidding me.” This guy did look, walk and had the demeanor of an honest to goodness pirate…if it wasn’t for the fact that they were surrounded by pirates, this might have been funny. However the twin flintlocks tucked into his belt was no laughing matter.
Several shouts verified this man was indeed their captain and he waved as he slowly stepped to the stairs and even more slowly down each stair as he looked the pair over.
Jack stepped in front of Coi as if it would have done any good.
The captain stopped and looked Jack up and down with a dead pan face. He then slowly turned and looked at the raven haired beauty…Jack tensed he would not let this or any one touch his love…or die trying.
The captain stopped five feet from Coi, looked her up and down…and doffed his hat that was followed a long deep bow.
“Welcome Princess…” he straightened and put on his hat “my dear ye have grown since we last met.”
Coi looked closely at the captain and a slow grin appeared “Harry? My God I didn’t recognize you with all that facial hair.” Jack sighed a huge sigh of relief, it appeared to be old home week.
“Aye lass and me girth increased as well.” he roared with laughter as the rest chimed in with boisterous laughter and then continued on their way.
Coi walked over to Jack and smiled as she held his arm “And this is Jack. Harry, used to live at our compound Jack, he was…”
Harry grinned a toothy smile “They taught me their ways. Hell I was but a lad of twenty back then…Coi here was some little pig-tailed brat runnin’ around…” he laughed a deep bass laugh “wasn’t much higher than me hip. Always full of questions and her daddy always told her to leave me alone. Aye, but she never did. She wanted to know about sailing ships and faraway lands, but at that age I hadn’t the heart to tell her that was in another world. Cute little lass, thought of her like me little sister I did…” a sad look clouded his smile “my real little sister never knew what happened to me.” his smiled returned “Hell matey, I was but a lad of eleven when I came here, twenty when I lived with Coi and her daddy…” his eyes looked to the sky “Lessee, I be about late forties now…” he snorted followed by a frustrated grunt “uhhh, I’ve been here about ninety years now…I be a thinkin’” he laughed a bellowing roar “Hell lad, even after all this time, this world confuses me with this time shite.” he looked at Coi “But those born here age differently, don’t ya darlin’? Coi looks like she’s in her twenties, but would suspect nearly fifty in me old years of time keepin’.”
Jack looked at Coi and smiled lovingly “Always liked older women.” But to Coi age didn’t matter and she never tried to understand the other world’s time lines. All she knew was she aged like everyone else as they came through the portal…and now her love would age as slowly as she.
Harry roared with laughter as he took each of their hands, with one of his meaty hands, and led them toward what appeared to be their headquarters in a large cave on the beach.
“So ye have a boyfriend do ya lass?” he patted Jack on the back perhaps a bit too hard but cajoled them inside as he roared “Good fer ya lass…” and then he looked at Jack “and lad, ya’d better treat Coi well, or I’d be comin’ after yer hide, I would.”
Coi slipped both arms around Jack’s waist and smiled at Harry “Oh he treats me really well Harry.”
Jack blushed as Harry roared with laughter once again and shouted to all that the princess was in the house and to watch their language. He pulled a chair out for Coi and bowed at the waist and as she sat, he pushed the chair in. To Jack’s amazement, he was the perfect gentleman. Harry plopped down in the seat next to Coi as Jack sat to the other side of the round table.
“Even we pirates have manners Jack.” then he roared with laughter as did Coi “Nawwww, we don’t.” the whole tavern laughed as he banged on the table for service.
Strangely Jack began to enjoy the evening as a huge dinner was brought and enjoyed even though he dared not ask what it might consist of, it was quite tasty.
Coi and Jack explained their mission and Harry filled them in on his life and their settlement as they barely had contact with her particular mesa. Her last visit Harry wasn’t there and he rued that fact. Now it was like old home week as he and Coi laughed and told stories. Although Coi didn’t partake of the liquors brought to the table, Jack found them more than sufficient to garner a moderate buzz.
Somehow he managed to explain his theory and as the night passed he noticed Coi looking at him strangely with a weird kind of smile.
Finally the pair was led to a small but pleasantly decorated cave and Coi closed the door. Only one copper lamp lit the room and Jack stumbled toward the well-padded bed.
“Oh sleep without worrying about being eaten.” he ripped off his shirt and pants and crawled into bed. As he looked over to Coi she slowly slid out of her rawhide and slowly walked toward Jack as her naked body shimmered in the dimly flame lit room.
“As far as being eaten…how about being devoured by…” she held out her hand to reveal a small vial of greenish fluid “a woman that loves you very much?” she tipped the vial which produced a think viscous liquid that was cool to the touch as it dripped on his skin.
Jack heaved his body upward as she slowly massaged it onto his muscular body and groaned as he watched her stand and rub it onto her naked form. As she slowly spread it between her thighs she groaned and Jack’s already spinning head thought that he’d lose his mind.
Her body glistened and with one last groan she slipped on top of him and it seemed as if they both burst into flames…but the flames were arousing, not burning.
“It is a rare passion oil my love…” but Jack never was aware of anything else beyond that. As she straightened, slowly lowered herself downward, there was a tidal wave of passion that he had never felt. It was as if they had become one, and the world that surrounded them never existed. Jack’s head spun and looking at the writhing Coi above him, he knew it wasn’t the liquor that inflamed his passion. Her eyes closed as primitive sounds of passion filled the room, he knew they came from him as well and he didn’t care. She fell to one side and never lost him as he rolled atop his love, his head spun, the room spun…
********************************
There was a loud banging on the outer door of the room and he could heard Coi welcoming Harry into the front area of their quarters. Jack tried to sit, but fell back into the deep feather bed and groaned.
“Uhhh…no more of that shit I drank last night…never again.”
The door burst open and Harry roared with laughter “Come on lad time ta get bustling, ye got a long day ahead of ye.” he spun had headed to the door that Coi held open for him, stopped and winked at the lovely women.
“You too honey…” he patted her gently on the head “I know that Kochoy kept you two humpin’ like bunnies all night, but princess, ye gotta be ready in a hour.” and with that he flipped a small hourglass and closed the door behind him.
Jack sat on the edge of the bed looking at the blanket wrapped Coi.
“Kochoy?”
“A potion my love.” she let the blank
et drop to the floor to reveal her naked red spotted body “It heightens the nervous system and makes making love…”
“Your body is covered…Christ! You have the measles?”
Coi laughed that musical laugh that Jack so loved “No my love it is what Jan would call a side effect…the spots.” she pointed toward his body to reveal red spots all over his body from the chest down.
“Holy shit!” Jack jumped up.
“Don’t worry my love, it will vanish in a few hours. Everywhere I spread the Kochoy the small red bumps appear…but once applied it does not smear or come off.”
“Aw crap, my dick is all red and bumpy.” Jack muttered in horror.
“I know and I really enjoyed it!” she giggled playfully.
Jack turned to look in the old mirror, but just sighed “And it will go away in a bit?”
Coi smiled sweetly “Yes my love don’t worry, it will.”
Jack turned and winked at Coi “For your sake I hope so.” he gently grasped her by the arms and stood her in front of the mirror to reveal a series of red bumps around her lips.
“I thought you said it didn’t come off?”
“Oh…” she smiled at Jack playfully and licked her lips “told you I enjoyed it.”
“And I’ll bet that Harry saw how much you did as well.”
“OH GOD!” she sputtered and buried her face into Jack’s chest.
“Where’d you get this Kochoy?”
Coi gigged again “From Harry, only the pirates know how to make this stuff and it is very rare…” she removed her head from Jack’s chest “Well I guess it’s all right, he knew what I wanted it for.”
The imp in Jack couldn’t resist “But probably not lip thing.” Again there was another Oh God! And again she buried her face in Jack’s chest. Soon she began to tremble and the Coi he knew and loved was back as she broke out into raucous laughter.
“So what! Old Harry knows I’m a woman now and he doesn’t have a thing to say about it. Now let’s get dressed…uhhhhh…Oooooo…” Jack slowly raised her and sat her atop a large wooden dresser and slipped between her legs…”yeeesssss…”
