“Inara,” Cindra murmured, beginning to rise. Bannor wordlessly stopped her, reaching out to grasp her hand and press it harder onto his chest.
“Communication request granted,” he rumbled authoritatively.
Cindra vaguely noted the rest of the men beginning to stir as the static took over once again. A moment later Inara’s cheery voice sounded over the intercom.
“Cindra, are you there?”
“I’m here,” Cindra replied, a wave of relief buffeting her body at her cousin’s voice. She still couldn’t believe they’d found each other after all this time.
“How’d you sleep?”
Cindra gave a bemused blink. “What time is it?”
Inara laughed. “Ten hours into the morning.”
Morning? Goodness, she hadn’t even realized an entire night had passed. Her cheeks grew heated as she responded, “Fine.”
“I wanted to know if you’d like to come aboard our ship for breakfast. We can talk some more.”
Grinning, Cindra looked at Bannor.
“That sounds good, but maybe we should make it a short breakfast.” When Inara remained silent, obviously awaiting her reasoning, she added, “I think it’s past time we start heading home.”
Four pairs of startled eyes focused on her. Yes, her mates were clearly awake now.
“Home?” Bannor said softly.
“To Spygia.”
Silent shock permeated the room. After a moment of silence, Inara’s amused voice sounded again.
“I take it you thought about what I told you yesterday and decided action was in order?”
Giggling, Cindra said, “Yes.”
Inara let out a long, slow laugh. “In that case, let’s get these ships moving. We’ll follow you back. As for breakfast…hell, it can wait ‘til tomorrow. Something tells me you and your mates need some alone time together.”
Cindra’s blood heated at the knowing tone of her cousin’s voice, but she couldn’t deny it either. She let her gaze wander to each and every one of her mates, who gazed upon her with love and happiness. They had well and truly claimed her and she’d loved every moment of it.
“Oh, and Cindra?” Inara said.
Bringing her attention back to the conversation, Cindra said, “Yes?”
“Smart girl.”
Cindra grinned at that. “I know.”
“I’ll see you tomorrow, cousin.”
Glancing down at Bannor, Devan, Stefon and Tempos, Cindra let out a choked laugh. “Well…maybe the day after that.”
After all, she and her Spygians had a lot of bonding to do.
And there wasn’t a moment to waste.
