Queen of His Heart Page 3

“Making up for lost time,” he whispered as he leaned over her and kissed her nape. He took her slowly this time and ran his hands over her back until another release built.

“I’m going to owe you quite a few orgasms,” she said.

“I’m looking forward to it,” he replied.

She came once more, shaking beneath him, and he groaned as he emptied his balls again. He nipped at her neck as he untied her and then lifted her into his arms. The room changed, and an enormous Roman-style bath filled the room. Zeus stepped into it and lowered her into the water.

Hera relaxed against the edge and let her legs float in front of her. Zeus moved between her legs and stroked his hands lightly up and down her sides. “What do you think it’ll be?”

Hera wrapped her legs around him. “I don’t know. A girl might be even more trouble than Ares ever was.”

Zeus chuckled. “I thought Ares was perfect? You’re always saying so.”

“Naturally, but you have to admit there were days we both felt like leveling a mountain or two.”

“Mmmm, yes.” Zeus cupped her breasts and ran his thumbs over her nipples. “Some of his fights with Aphrodite.”

Hera sighed. “Yes, I’m so glad he finally found someone who understands him better than she ever did.”

Zeus pressed against her. “Are you sore?”

“Why do you ask?” She tightened her legs around him.

“We do need to make sure it takes.”

Hera laughed. “You just can’t get enough of me.”

“No. And that will never, ever change.” He kissed her as they moved against each other, and she lifted herself enough to take his cock inside her.

“Not sure I can come again,” she said, knowing full well it wasn’t true.

“You’re being fucked by the king of the gods, my love.”

She arched to take him deeper. “Then show me what you’ve got.”

Hera awoke in Zeus’ arms. She’d lost track of the number of times they’d made love. They were in their own bedroom now, and she looked up at the ceiling, admiring the fresco that depicted Mount Olympus as it had looked centuries before.

“What are you thinking?” Zeus asked, kissing her neck.

“That masked ball was such a disappointment. I think we should throw one of our own.”

  “That might be fun.”

  “We could make our announcement.”

Zeus grinned at her. “I can’t wait to see everyone’s faces.”

Hera laughed. “Oh, it’ll be something to be behold, I’m sure.”

Zeus pulled her closer. “I know this was my idea, but you’re happy?”

She rested her head on his chest. “Yes, I think so. It’ll be a big change.”

  “Could be good for us.”

“Yes, it just might be.” She looked up into his eyes. “You’re going to be attentive and doting, of course.”

  “Oh yes. No question.”

As much as she’d longed to get away from him only a few hours ago, the thought made her smile. “Then we have a party to plan.”

  * * * *

Even though her sons both wore full masks, she knew they were shocked. All around them, the other Olympians all gasped and began talking. Then Dionysus began clapping, giving Hera a wink as he did so. Everyone joined in, even Ares and Hephaestus. Others crowded in to congratulate them, but her sons hung back. They whispered together. Their feud over Aphrodite had ended long ago, and they seemed to get along well enough now, but Hera knew they were too much alike not to annoy each other from time to time.

When everyone else moved away, they approached her, each removing their masks in turn. “Well, my darlings?” she said. “What do you think?”

“It’s been so long since any Olympian bore a child,” Hephaestus said. “We’re a bit shocked, I guess.”

“A bit?” Ares said. “That’s an understatement.”

Hera studied Ares. “Does it worry you?”

“No. If the Fates allowed it, then it can’t bring us harm.” He paused. “I take that back. We all know better. The Fates have very different ideas about what is good for us.”

“I asked for this, and they said it would bring us closer,” Zeus said.

“If it’s a girl, she’ll probably adore us for spoiling her and then hate us for suddenly turning into overprotective brutes one day,” Hephaestus said, eyeing Ares.

Ares straightened, puffing up in a way that made Hera want to hug him. “She’ll need protection. If she’s as beautiful as Hera we won’t be able to trust any man alone with her.”

“Hmmm, better watch it,” Zeus said. “If she inherits some of my powers, you might have to run from lightning bolts.”

“Yes, you are rather quick with those,” Hephaestus said without humor.

Zeus cleared his throat. “That brings us to another topic.”

“What?” Ares asked, narrowing his eyes.

Zeus looked to Hephaestus. “I know we said years ago we’d put it behind us, but I want us to really do so. I’m sorry for what I did to you. I was jealous and felt you’d take some of Hera’s love away from me. Seeing all of you finding love here lately has made me regret many things. Boy or girl,” he said, looking to Ares as well, “you two will be its brothers. I want us to be more like a family instead of a bunch of spoiled teenagers.”

  Ares snickered. “Spoiled teenagers?”

“You have to admit, it fits some days,” Hera said. “We’ve all had our differences, so we’ll all have to work at it.”

“If I can do it, so can you two,” Zeus added.

Hephaestus nodded. “I can.” He looked to Ares. “You?”

After a moment, Ares nodded. “Yes, I can.” He raked his hand down his face. “Demeter and Hestia will be with you at the birth? And Hypnos in case there’s lots of pain?”

“I had Hypnos close by when both of your were born, and I didn’t need him at all. I imagine my sisters will both want to be with me, but I am the goddess of both women and childbirth.” She put one hand on her hips. “Note the word goddess. What do you think could go wrong?”

Ares shrugged, looking a bit embarrassed. “Something might.”

She reached out and grasped his hand. “Will you stay with me then and see me through the travails?”

Ares paled a bit, which made Hera want to laugh. He’d cut down thousands of men and literally marched over piles of corpses, yet he looked ready to faint simply thinking about her giving birth. “Of course, if you want that.” His voice sounded a bit far off, and he cleared his throat.

She let her laughter spill out. “I think some things should remain private and mysterious, sweetheart. And I wouldn’t put you through that.”

Ares seemed relieved yet he still protested. “But I’d do it if you wanted me there.”

“I know, and that’s all that matters.” She kissed both of her sons. “Now go and enjoy this party. I put a lot of effort into this!”

Both of her sons mingled back into the crowd, and Hera took Zeus’ hand. She led them out onto the balcony, where she took a deep breath and then turned to look at her guests. “Everyone seems excited,” she said.

  “And happy.”

“Yes, and happy.” She pulled him to her for a kiss. Smiling up into his eyes, she whispered, “Very, very happy.”

They embraced again, and his hand lightly caressed her quickly swelling belly. Already she felt his love surrounding her. This time, things would be different. They’d been meant for each other since the beginning of time, and for once, she was going to count her blessings and revel in being the queen of his heart.
