Heather stepped outside and gave Gavin his beer. “Let’s have a toast,” she said. “To a happy and healthy future and may our love last for an eternity.” She smiled at Beck and Gavin.
Beck and Gavin raised their glasses. “We’ll drink to that,” Gavin said.
Heather looked around at the sunset and the smell of flowers and animals. The prairie grass rippled in the breeze and her husbands smiled at her. Her world had tilted badly for a while. But when it straightened, she’d found herself in an even better and happier place.

A Year Later
Heather stood between Gavin and Beck to watch her students’ first dance recital. The tiny little girls spun around. One or two lost their balance, but quickly caught up with the rest. Heather nodded reassuringly to them.
Chad had offered to play and the lovely music added to the excitement. When the older girls danced, Heather’s heart swelled with pride. One or two of them showed real promise, but they all did well and their families were proud.
Afterward, all the guests and dancers enjoyed the healthy snacks and the desserts. Parents came up to thank Heather.
“My Anna may not be the best dancer, but her confidence and posture had improved immensely. She’ll be back next season,” Anna’s mother assured Heather.
“I’m glad she’s returning. I’ll be looking for her,” Heather said.
“Are you happy about taking the summer off?” Gavin asked.
“Yes. I’m looking forward to my parents visiting and mom’s going to show me some more recipes. She’s right, I do enjoy cooking.”
“Thank goodness. I didn’t really want to eat most of our meals out. I like being at home with you,” Beck said.
“I agree. The crowd’s beginning to leave. We can lock up and be out of here in about fifteen minutes,” Heather glanced around at her studio. It was on a back street in town and was just the right size. And she got to ride to work with Gavin.
Beck and Gavin hurriedly straightened the room and they went to the car. “I’ve got the horses ready and all we need packed for the weekend. We can go to the cabin as soon as we get home,” Beck said.
“I love the new suite at the house, but my favorite place is the cabin.” Heather kissed both their cheeks from where she sat in between them.
Darkness was falling when they arrived at the cabin. Beck took the horses to put them in the small barn he’d had built to the side. Gavin and Heather walked to the edge of the canyon and watched the last of the sunset and the wild horses settling for the night. A quiet came over the area as the animals and birds found their night time places. In the morning the birds would chirp and the animals would come to the stream for water.
Gavin started a fire in the fireplace to take the chill off and Heather took the satchel of groceries to the kitchen to add to what they had left before.
She walked to Gavin’s side and put one arm around him and Beck came in and she hugged him with her other arm. The fire crackled and sent out heat to warm them.
“Our little bit of paradise. I am so happy.” She glanced at them.
“We are too, and especially when we’re all alone here. No one to interrupt our joy in being together,” Beck said with a smile. “After so much darkness inside me, I’m afraid at times I’ll explode with the joy.”
“Well, I’ve been saving some news for you two. I wanted to tell you here.”
They gave her a worried questioning look. “It’s good news, guys, or I think so. We’re going to have someone join us in about six months. I’m pregnant.”
“A baby, but how…?”
“You are a doctor. Hopefully you know how,” Heather teased Gavin.
He hugged her. “You interrupted me. I was going to say how did you find out without me knowing?”
“I slipped in late one afternoon when you’d left early and Dana checked me. I swore her to secrecy.”
Beck pulled her into his arms and held her tight and close. “I probably will explode with joy. I can’t wait to teach him or her how to ride.”
“It’s going to be a few years yet,” she said and kissed him.
Gavin went to the kitchen and brought back juice for Heather and a glass of bourbon for him and Beck. “I wondered why you’d been turning down your wine lately. You said it bothered your stomach but refused to come in and let me check you. I should have guessed. Especially since you stopped your pills six months ago.”
“This was the perfect place to surprise you. I’m glad it worked out.” She raised her juice glass. “To us and our future child. I don’t care if our baby is a boy or girl as long as he or she is healthy.”
“And to the best year we’ve lived yet,” Gavin held up his glass and the three of them clicked to the toast.
“Can we still make love?” Beck asked.
Heather put her body against his. “You better believe it. Pregnancy has aroused my libido. I’m going to wear you two out.”
“A challenge?” Beck asked. He grinned at Gavin. “We have to take her on.”
She laughed as she ran toward the bedroom with her wonderful husbands close behind.
