A Very Witchy Yuletide Page 18

by D. Lieber

Sawyer poked his head into the kitchen. And though he was greeted with the mouthwatering scent of glazed ham and spiced, he didn’t see anyone.

“Sawyer?” Eeva called him from the front hall.

He met her there where he found a cowbell and a tambourine beside the door.

“They must already be outside,” she said.

  “It’s almost time,” he agreed.

They pulled on their coats, hats, and boots then grabbed the instruments before heading out the front door.

Eeva slipped her arm into Sawyer’s, using him as a guide in the still-dark morning.

“Watch the steps,” he told her as he led her off the porch and around to the side of the house.

They found the coven huddled in their coats and hoods, their eyes trained on the eastern horizon.

Just as Sawyer and Eeva settled in behind them, the sun shone its first light.

“There it is!” Sol shouted, pointing at the first rays of dawn.

Everyone responded in a burst of noise. They hollered and whooped. They banged their drums and shook their bells. They greeted the sun, the newly reborn god, with cries of welcome.

And as he shook his cowbell and Eeva jingled her tambourine, he smiled over at her. Her face was open and bright in the morning sunshine. He couldn’t help but lean down and press a kiss to her smiling lips.

The cheers of the coven turned to whistles and laughs.

“I have a feeling we will be meeting sooner rather than later,” Devan said, chuckling.

“I see a handfasting in our future,” Piper added.

  “Finally!” Cassandra shouted.

“I know,” Tara agreed. “It’s about damn time.”

Eeva broke their kiss, burying her face in his chest.

“Don’t say finally,” Sawyer argued with a grin. “Finally makes it sound like the end. It’s a new day, a new season. We’re only just beginning.”

  About the Author

  D. Lieber is an urban fantasy author with a wanderlust that would make a butterfly envious. When she isn’t planning her next physical adventure, she’s recklessly jumping from one fictional world to another. Her love of reading led her to earn a Bachelor’s in English from Wright State University.

Beyond her skeptic and slightly pessimistic mind, Lieber wants to believe. She has been many places—from Canada to England, France to Italy, Germany to Russia—believing that a better world comes from putting a face on “other.” She is a romantic idealist at heart, always fighting to keep her feet on the ground and her head in the clouds.

Lieber lives in Wisconsin with her husband (John) and cats (Yin and Nox).
