  Colorado has a number of beautiful opera houses still standing, and the idea for this book was sparked by a fascinating tour of the Tabor Opera House in Leadville. Soon afterwards, I was delighted to learn that the Tivoli Turnhalle, part of the student union on the campus where I teach, was originally an opera house as well.

  The visits of Oscar Wilde, Harry Houdini, John Philip Sousa, P.T. Barnum, and others contributed to the rich history of places such as the Tabor and the Central City Opera House. For fictional purposes, I retrospectively “added” Stonedale Opera House as a stop on their tours.
