Dad walked over to me. “I got another message from her last night,” he said.
“From Gretta?”
He nodded. “She’s begging to settle the lawsuit.”
“What did you tell her?”
“I told her we’ll see her in court.”
In the distance, a pack of Burrs ran through the forest. Two of the younger ones chased each other like excited puppies. The elder Burr stopped, raised its tail and incinerated a rat.
I thought back to my first night on Artemis, and about how far I’d come. Back then, I was worried that I’d made a huge mistake. Now, though, it was different. As I looked at the rich landscape around me, I couldn’t wait to explore more.
