“I’m so proud of you,” I told him but my insides tumbled over themselves. He was moving in a different world. How would I ever fit?
“It’s just for a few years then we will move back home and I can get a job at a law firm. Probably in Seattle. With the congressman’s connections, it won’t be an issue.”
I bit my lip as I fought with myself. Parker, being an above average husband picked up on the fact that something was bothering me.
“What is it, princess? I thought you would be excited.”
“I am,” I assured him. “It’s just that I have some news myself. And now, maybe this isn’t the best time.”
His brow furrowed. “What is it. Are you okay?”
I sighed. “I’m fine. And according to the doctor. So is the baby.”
Parker froze as his eyes grew big then he slowly smiled as he pulled me into the deepest hug.
“I love you Mrs. Jade Benson and always will. This is going to be the luckiest kid alive, having you for a mother.”
My heart filled with love as I sank into him. He always knew the most perfect thing to say to allay my fears.
“We need to call Mrs. Thompson,” I said. “And your mother.”
Parker laughed. “I want to scream it from the roof tops. I’m going to be a father.”
“I love you too,” I told him. “I always will.”
He kissed me, then leaned away and stared into my eyes.
“Any regrets?”
I instantly shook my head. No, no regrets. Only love and happiness as we fought the world together.
“You make life too easy, Parker,” I told him. “And don’t you ever stop.”
He laughed and pulled me into a hug. A hug that led to us delaying dinner for hours.
My man. A family of my own. No, there were no regrets. Only a happiness that I prayed would never leave me.
