Jed nodded his head slowly before explaining why he was here, “Caden, the Council has been here long enough so we are living tomorrow.”

Caden looked up at him with narrowed eyes, and Jed chuckled at the black eyes that held one question in them.

“The Council has agreed that your two months will start tomorrow when we leave,” Jed informed him. “As per our agreement, the same rules still apply so we will see you when the two months are up.”

Caden nodded his head and said, “Then I will see you at the end of those two months.”

Jed laughed as he slowly got to his feet and headed for the door. At the door, Jed stopped but didn’t turn around as he advised, “If I was you, Caden, I would catch up on my knowledge of the history of the first werewolf.”

Caden frowned as the door closed behind him as he felt his wolf’s relief that they had two more months.

Do you really hope that she will come back before the time limit is up? He asked him and he was surprised when his wolf didn't respond to the question.

He sat there for a few more minutes before he grabbed his jacket off the back of his chair and walked out of the room.

Jessa and Timothy were standing at the base of the stairs as Caden exited the office.

Seeing him, Jessa told him with a roll of her eyes, “They are in their room, and Jenna went to your room.”

Caden grimaced as he stopped beside them before a thoughtful look came to his face, which caused Jessa and Timothy to look at him in confusion.

He shook his head as he told them, “I am going out. If you need me, contact me through the pack link or my cell phone.”

“Okay,” they said in unison as Caden headed out of the house closing the door behind him.

Jessa looked at Timothy who only shook his head before putting an arm around her waist and leading her into the living room.

“How about we watch a movie?” He suggested and Jessa laughed as they settled on the couch after Timothy picked a movie.

Upstairs in Caden’s room, Jenna took a nice, hot shower prepping to be ready when Caden came to his room. Tonight she was going to seduce Caden and she wondered if something beneficial would come from their sex so that he would have to pick her as his mate and Alpha Female. She thought about Caden’s father and she smiled as another thought came into her head. Maybe if Caden didn’t want to play…she thought as she giggled quietly.

Caden didn’t even think as he went across town and drew his truck up across the street from Abella’s cottage. He turned off the vehicle and sat there watching the house until he noticed the light going on the top floor, which he knew was Abella’s room.

He flipped open his phone and punched in her number that he memorized looking through Jessa’s contact list.

“Hello,” he heard her say, and Caden felt his wolf relaxing as he slightly sagged in his seat.

“Miss Deans,” he said, but he spoke her name with a slight huskiness to it.

“Caden,” Abella breathed before she cleared her throat and corrected her comment, “Mr. Brody, what do I owe the pleasure?”

“It is Caden,” he remarked. “I wanted to hear your voice.”

There was silence at his words before Abella said, “I don’t want to cause any trouble for your pack and family.”

Caden leaned his head back against his headrest as he informed her quietly, “That was my father speaking not Jessa, or I.”

“Okay,” Abella relented after a few minutes thought. Then she said, “I didn’t tell them anything if you want to know what happened wherever they took me. They asked me the same questions over and over again, but I didn’t tell them anything.”

Abella frowned as she remembered how the one woman had continued to hit her even though she asked the least amount of questions although she had threatened that Abella would tell her what she wanted to know.

“I wonder,” she said aloud, and Caden with his sensitive hearing heard it.

“About what?” he asked, and Abella hesitated for a moment before she revealed her thought.

“It is possible,” Caden responded calmly, and Abella let out a slight chuckle.

“From the sound of your voice,” she remarked, “I would say that the likelihood is better than possible.”

Caden couldn’t help the smile that crossed his face at her words, and he repeated, “It could be possible.”

Abella laughed lightly before shaking her head and saying, “I get the drift; none of my business.”

Caden didn’t say another world on it, but steered the conversation to neutral grounds asking her about her favorite movies.

“Thank you,” Caden said after they had finished breaking down a particular movie that they both liked.

“For what?” Abella said, and she felt as sense of déjà vu as she had asked Jessa the same question not too long ago.

“For listening, talking with me,” Caden said.

“No problem,” Abella said flippantly not going to admit that her heart was knocking against her ribs.

“Abella,” Caden asked quietly, and Abella closed her eyes to take a deep breathe when suddenly she froze as a picture of Caden sitting in his car as he looked up, and she watched his mouth as he spoke, “May I call you again?”

She swallowed suddenly before she could stop herself, “I would be disappointed if you didn’t.”

Caden chuckled darkly before saying, “Thank you again.”

Abella shook her head before asking ruefully, “Anything else, sir?”

He wondered for a brief moment what she would say if he said “you” before shaking his head at his thoughts.

“Just wanted to make sure that I can call you again,” he said calmly not liking the term “sir” from her mouth.

Abella felt a moment of disappointment but she said, “You have my number so if you feel like talking again give me a ring.”

“I will hold you to that,” Caden said, and Abella laughed before suggesting that he go home and get some sleep.

He took her suggestion although after he hung up the phone, he wondered if she had seen him. He chuckled as he started the vehicle taking one last look at her cottage before heading home.

Once there though, he climbed to the attic where he stood in the middle of the room looking around.

His wolf said to him do you miss her?

Do you? Caden countered back, and he felt his wolf’s hesitation for a second before he admitted, not as much as I once did.

Caden nodded his head to show his understanding before he looked around the room and he smiled as he took off his jacket. He was going to change this room around as it once belonged to Leana, but now he would make it his room.

  Chapter 13

The next day, Caden headed for the kitchen where Jessa and Timothy were just starting to eat their breakfast.

“Good morning,” he said not noticing that it was different than his normal greetings even his wolf was content this morning.

“Caden, where did you go last night?” Jessa asked, but Caden only narrowed his eyes at her question. She smiled and nodded her head lifting her hands up in mock surrender, and he chuckled.

He poured a cup of coffee and settled back against the counter as the Council came in the kitchen.

“We are heading out now, Caden,” Jed said coming to stand beside him.

“It was a pleasure to have you with us, sir,” Caden said. He hesitated for a second before asking quietly, “What did you mean about reviewing my history of the first werewolf?”

Jed sighed as he said, “Exactly what I said, Caden. You need to review the history of the first werewolf.”

Before Caden could ask “why” Jed walked away to say goodbye to Jessa and Timothy, and then they were heading out.

Caden followed behind them as he sipped his coffee and watched them leave. He turned to walk back in when Jenna came out with a frown on her face.

“What happened to you last night, Caden?” she hissed at him. Caden looked at her with
narrowed eyes before saying, “I went out for a little while.”

He walked back inside meeting Jessa as she walked out, “I am going to school. I think I will go to the library afterwards, Caden,” she told him kissing his cheek.

“Hey,” Timothy called as he came out of the house, and Jessa only laughed hurrying to her car.

Caden didn’t say anything as he headed back into the house as Devin and Trixie came down from upstairs, and Jenna followed behind them with a pout on her face.

“What is wrong with you, my dear?” Devin asked her as Caden and Timothy stopped near them.

“Nothing, sir,” Jenna said giving him a charming smile looking at him from underneath her lashes.

Caden watched as Trixie’s eyes flared with anger as Devin smiled at Jenna as Caden’s wolf said Jenna should be careful.

I agree, but I don’t think she will listen to me, Caden told him before heading for his office. He entered the office sitting down and setting his coffee on the desk before picking up his cell phone.

He opened it just as Timothy came into the room and Caden closed it with a snap before saying, “Let’s get started on our work.”

Timothy nodded his head wondering privately who he was about to call as they got to work.

They worked for a few hours going over the accounts for the pack and Caden’s businesses. Besides Jessa and Timothy, no one knew that Caden owned a few restaurants, which added to the pack funds. It wasn’t as if Caden hid this information, it was in his opinion nobody’s business, and his mother had endorsed his opinion. He didn’t finish school early or go to college just to run the pack, but to make sure that he had something to call his own. The pack was his mother’s and she built it up from her parents, he merely wanted to make sure that it continued to run and its members be safe and secure even if his own heart broke in the process.

Try not to think about her, his wolf advised softly, and Caden grimaced because it was difficult not to think about Leana, his mate although he had to admit to himself it was getting easier everyday.

He pulled out of his thoughts as the phone on his desk rung, and he picked it up as Timothy looked up from straightening the paperwork and placing it in their correct folder.

“Alpha Brody,” he said shuffling some papers into a folder.

He stopped when he heard what the person had to say at the other end and he frowned as he asked, “Are you sure about that?”

The voice confirmed it and said a few more things as Caden pulled a notebook toward him, and started jotting down notes.

Timothy looked at him with raised eyebrows although he didn’t say a word as Caden’s face became remote and he continued to listen while jotting down notes on the pad.

“All right thank you, Alpha Stone for the information,” Caden said, and with a “good bye” put the phone back in its holder.

“Rogues?” Timothy asked in a controlled voice.

Caden didn’t look up as he closed his eyes and sent out a pack call to his fighter wolves before answering Timothy’s question, “He called to let me know that a few rogues were found two days on his territory half-starved and spitting in anger. It seems that their leader double-crossed them, but as they don’t know who he was except for a code name, they couldn’t tell Alpha Stone any more than that.”

Timothy frowned as he said, “I thought they were all dead.”

“No,” Caden said leaning his elbows on the desk and leaning on his clenched hands. “We took care of the ones at the compound that night, but you and I both know that at least five of them left earlier before we got there.”

Timothy nodded his head in confirmation because they hadn’t talked about it even though they all sensed it. There was a knock on the door and the door opened as the other four members from that night walked into the office.

Caden said grimly, “Close the door.”

Once the door closed, he began explaining what Alpha Stone told him and they listened with grim faces.

“Also, my father and his mate are here,” Caden started, but he didn’t have to finish his thought.

“We will keep an eye out,” Javier said an angry light in his eyes

Caden nodded his head as his eyes flickered with black flame although when the door opened without a knock the flame intensified.

“I thought I could be of assistance,” Devin said walking into the room as if it was his office.

Caden watched as the others looked at him with indifferent eyes before turning back to him, “We will do as you request, Alpha.”

Caden met their eyes with his response as his wolf growled low at his father’s attitude and interference.

“That will be all,” Caden said quietly, and they nodded their heads as they got up and walked out not bothering to say anything to Devin.

Devin frowned, but before he said another word, Caden spoke up.

“Father, we have finished,” Caden retorted standing up gathering folders together in a neat pile as Timothy began stacking his own neat pile of folders.

“Trixie would like to go shopping,” Devin said in a loud voice, and Caden didn’t even both looking up.

“Then take her shopping,” he said with indifference, and watched from the corner of his eyes how his father smiled smugly before leaving the room.

“Bastard,” Timothy said under his breathe before looking quickly at Caden.

“Nothing I haven’t thought myself, my friend,” Caden said with anger.

Timothy smiled as he asked, “So is that the reason they are back, you think?”

“Probably,” Caden said taking both stacks of files and placing them in a hidden safe in his desk. Caden didn’t trust his personal files about the pack accounts or his business accounts in the regular filing cabinets. He knew his father well enough to know that he would try to find any information about the pack accounts as he did once before when his mother took care of the accounts, and as the memory came across his mind his lips tightened in an angry line.

He continued his conversation with Timothy as he shook his head to dispel the memory, “Knowing Devin, and Trixie, the money that he inherited after mom’s death is gone, or close enough. They came back here to live off the pack or until he can find a way to take over.”

Timothy glanced quickly at Caden at that insight, “Do you think he would actually try to take the Alpha position?”

“I think he would try just for the money that the position is responsible for,” Caden said honestly. He looked up at Timothy as they headed for the door, “The clause stays in affect until, or if, I take a mate and have a child.”

Timothy’s face pale as he said in a rush, “Caden, I am not…”

Caden interrupted him, “You can, and besides, you have Jessa to help you. Between the two of you, this pack will be safe.”

Timothy couldn’t answer this statement as they were already out of the office and heading up the stairs.

Caden went directly to his room and Timothy followed as Caden said, “Timothy, help me move my things.”

Timothy looked at him in bewilderment as they entered the room and Caden started taking his clothes, and things out of the closet and drawers. Timothy stood there as Caden put everything on the bed before grabbing a suitcase in the back of the closet.

“I need help bringing that chest up to the attic,” Caden said indicating a chest that sat against the far wall.

“The attic,” Timothy repeated in astonishment.

Caden nodded his head as he started loading things into the suitcase.

“I would like to have my things out of this room before Jenna gets back from shopping with Devin and Trixie,” Caden said with stiff smile.

Timothy nodded his head although he asked himself how Caden knew that Jenna had went shopping with them as Caden went into the bathroom to grab his things from there.

It only took them thirty minutes as Caden only wanted Timothy’s help with the chest although Timothy made sure to help Caden clear the room of his presence.

Once in the attic, Timothy was surprised to find nothing of Leana left, especially as this was her room when she had stayed at the pack house.

“I need to look into adding a bathroom up here one of these days,” Caden said offhandedly as he started to put things away in the dresser and closet.

“I am surprise that you hadn’t done that for Leana when she moved in,” Timothy said absently.

Caden looked startled for the moment until he shrugged, “This was only the guest room for her until we married and she moved in my room downstairs.”

Timothy chuckled as Caden threw him a wicked look because although it was the room that Leana was assign, they all knew that she spent her nights with Caden in his bedroom.

Caden only shook his head at his best friend’s thoughts and continued what he was doing not paying attention where he put things as long as he found it when he needed them.

“So what are you going to do about your room?” Timothy asked as Caden finished, and they were heading back down stairs.

“Nothing,” Caden said shrugging his shoulders. “Jenna can continue to use it because although it has a bathroom attached to it, Jessa and your room is actually the master bedroom.”

Timothy’s eyes widened at this news, but Caden only nodded his head once before heading to the backyard where pack members were training.

Within minutes, Caden and Timothy had entered the training helping to teach the younger ones how to protect themselves and their loved ones.

The training lasted for a couple of hours and finally tired out, the training considered to be over for the day.

Caden wiped a hand across his forehead as sweat glistened on his skin and he grabbed the t-shirt he had taken off when the heavy training began. He was conscious of a pair of eyes glaring at him, but he didn’t turn around as he headed for the best fighter wolf and trainer for the pack.

“How is he doing?” He asked quietly as he stopped beside him wiping his face and chest before slipping on his t-shirt.

“He is a damn good fighter,” the man muttered his gaze roaming the training area. “Is that the reason he was allowed to stay?”
