Sickeningly Human: Advena Page 6

Probably scowling at us, laughing and haunting. See, their blasted ships won’t operate without one present inside it. So, under governmental contract, Envision was assigned to remedy the problem.” He grinned wider, “Your shaved head… We drained your mind, Transfered my pre-Advena memories into you and Linked your consciousness to them. We followed the inconsistent weather patterns and located one on the island. You’re just bait. He absorbs in you, we capture the creature, and the ship runs.”

I was silent again… things were beginning to make sense. He wanted me to figure this out… a lot sooner. The notes…

The Doctor checked his watch again, then smiled, “almost time.”

  “For what? Lunch?!”

“The choppers were placed eight minutes out. In case of failure, we bomb the island. Call it cover up, call it what you want. I’ve been stalling. The blast should light this place up too, take a look around,” he did, “ it’ll be the last we see each other,” he lunged at me flailing one arm out, in his hand a Taser. He really was quick, I thought as he jammed it in my side. I double backed reeling in pain. I fell back into the stones like a solid piece of wood. The thwacking of the helicopter blades beating closer and closer. Then, with me still on the rain stricken ground, they arrived—their lights breaking the air’s hold on quiet darkness. The lights seemed to illuminate every water droplet that zoomed downwards. A rope was lowered and Medax grabbed it and was hoisted up, out of sight. The beating of the blades grew loud and the helicopter left.

The electric shock’s power over me was out now, but I stayed on the ground—what was the need to stand, my doom would be dropped momentarily anyways. And even if by some miracle I survived, my life had been a sham. I was hopeless and I didn’t care anymore.

The ghostly Advena’s face was over mine. Its sockets ghastly void, yet staring still. Its tattered robes drifted on me. After a minute of silence, my fear of it now gone, it opened its mouth slit slightly and the annoying whistling came forth. Then the black voids for eyes filled with extraordinary light. Orbs of screaming brightness grew inside the voided sockets.

I was suddenly jerked, by some unseen force, into the sky. The Advena soul wasn’t in front of me anymore and I didn’t seem to be in control of anything, lone my thoughts. Below me I could see the island being blown apart by tidal waves of fire. Above stars grew closer, then, before I knew, the Earth’s round figure was under us, and the stars grew nearer.
