Three days after Christmas, we left George's empire in Cal's hands and took the ferry to Victoria. Most of our friends were away or playing host to out of town relatives so we booked into a bed and breakfast near the city center and settled in for a long anticipated mini-holiday.

On New Year's Eve day, I drove to Aunt Peggy's house and told my tenants they'd probably have to move out by March or April. Our two years on the farm were almost up.

The Mitchells looked glum. Bob said, "We were hoping we could stay forever, weren't we, Anne?"

His wife nodded. "We've always loved old houses. Come upstairs and see what Bob's done with the front bedroom."

What Bob had done was wallpaper and furnish it in the style of the 1920's. The room was stunning and I said so. I was just about to say I would reimburse him for his time and materials when I realized I was visualizing the upstairs front bedroom at the farm done the same way. How odd! I went over to the window and stared down at the traffic zooming by while more odd thoughts drifted through my mind.
