Tears of Alron (The Alchemist Book #3): LitRPG Series Page 32

by Vasily Mahanenko

The god fell silent, and Tailyn felt immense relief rush over him. Speaking with a higher being hadn’t been easy. Pulling one of the red flasks full of blue liquid out of his inventory, the boy just about threw it away like a poisonous snake. Someone’s life was in that little bit of glass. Some poor soul had been forced to give up his essence so someone else could rewrite their parameters and begin life from scratch. And however noble Mark Derwin’s intentions had been, there could be no forgiveness granted. Only a monster would sacrifice one person for another.

“I’m going to find each and every pool,” Tailyn hissed with rage in his voice. “And I’m going to destroy them all, even if that costs me my life and the chance to bring back others. Nobody will ever again create a tear of Alron!”

  Your oath was received!

Carry it out to receive a divine reward.

  Epilogue

IT TOOK A WHOLE week to get everything ready for the resurrection. According to the instructions, the crystals had to be left out in the sun for twenty-four hours before they could be fused together. Every morning, Tailyn got up at dawn, pulled out the blue stones, and prayed for the god to keep the clouds away. Then, he pulled out his book and continued reading, stunned by the folly of the ancients. There was no other term for what they’d come up with. The experiments were universal self-learning machines made with the single purpose of destroying all things living.

Experiments and Their Descriptions is unique.

New mission: Book Delivery. Description: deliver Experiments and Their Descriptions to the academy library to receive a reward.

The advisor had turned out to be an excellent researcher. While the book just featured dry lists of what set each experiment apart, Dur-Sha-Gun’s journal included their habits and customs. Once, the lix had even sent five hundred of his inferior brethren in to see how fast they were eaten. But nothing was there about how to kill the monsters — Halas had been looking to take charge of them, so he’d given Dur-Sha-Gun orders to figure out how to bring them under the lixes’ control. And the advisor had made serious progress over the five years he’d spent studying Tortila Mine.

Finally, the day arrived. Eighty crystals charged in the light of the sun began to beam like lanterns. Having a hard time controlling his excitement, Tailyn jumped into his alchemical laboratory and took a deep breath — the crystals were already there. Filling them with light let him materialize them in his workshop, and that was the most difficult part. The boy took twenty of the shining stones and placed them around to form a well. Then, he set a tear of Alron inside the little well. Hoping against hope that it would work, he wrapped his arms around the column and squeezed, breaking the glass. A gong rang out. Suddenly, his arms were grasping at empty space — the crystals and tear of Alron had vanished.

But the space wasn’t completely empty. A small sphere appeared in the boy’s hands. It shimmered with all the different shades of blue, lightning flickering inside it, and Tailyn’s eyes lit up. He’d read the description of the living ball of energy — concentrated noa. It had worked. He’d pulled it off. Valia was coming back to life.

You’re the first person in this release to receive Concentrated Noa. Great deeds deserve great rewards.

  Level +6 (7).

As compensation for reaching your parameter limits, you received:

  Crystal +6 (30).

For a few seconds, Tailyn was taken aback — the number of crystals didn’t match up to how many he actually had. Another sixty were lying there on the table ready to be fused together, after all. Worried they might disappear, the boy quickly made three more of the little blue balls of lightning. Everything went well, though he wasn’t awarded any more levels.

“Please, come back. I need you,” Tailyn said, heading out into the real world and thinking of the four people he’d lost. Valia’s smile. Valanil’s friendly hand. Forian’s ubiquitous frown. Ka-Do-Gir’s pride. While they were all so different from each other, they’d become family to the boy. A strange, often illogical and idiotic family, but the family he’d never had, nonetheless.

Nothing happened for a good while. Tailyn even began to be afraid he’d messed something up or gotten the wrong information, but that was when the spheres disappeared exactly the way instructions said they would. Four vague figures began to gain form in front of the boy. However, he was having a hard time seeing them past the message he wasn’t able to wave away. But after reading it, he no longer wanted to wave it anywhere. It was the last thing he needed. Why did everything have to happen to him? What had he ever done to deserve it all?

You used crystals for personal gain.

The emperor and the provost sentenced you to death.

You were banished from the Second Empire.

You were expelled from the academy.

A destroyer was sent to hunt you.

Remember that you have 82 days to deliver Experiments and Their Descriptions to the academy library.

  About the Author

Vasily Mahanenko is a fantasy author working in the new genre of LitRPG - the MMO-based fantasy and sci fi. His Way of the Shaman series took Russian literature by storm in 2012.

Vasily dipped into his college-days insider knowledge as a hardcore gamer in order to create a believable world of the virtual-reality MMO game. His bestselling series combines fiction and video games, telling the story of Shaman and his friends stuck in the ruthless reality of Barliona. He used his more than ten years' experience as an ERP implementation project manager to approach his writing in a well-organized manner, working to a strict schedule, a set of deadlines and even a budget. At the moment, the series boasts six novels with the seventh one in the works - this time the author expands on stories of Shaman's companions and those who helped and supported him in his trials and tribulations.

The English translation of The Way of the Shaman series is now available to the English-language reader in its entirety. So is his other LitRPG series, The Dark Paladin. Vasily’s latest project to date is also set in the world of Barliona: The Renegades (The Bard from Barliona Book #1) LitRPG Series, co-written with another Russian author, Eugenia Dmitrieva.

Vasily's other passion is space exploration which is why he works on a sci fi LitRPG series entitled Galactogon. Set in a space-simulator based world, the series is already available in English on Amazon.

He’s also released a graphic novel series based on his bestselling series: The Way of the Shaman Comic Book. The English translation of the first two installments are available here and here. Alternatively, check the book on the author's site: http://mahanenko.ru/en/Comics-1.
