Changes of Heart Page 40

by Liza Gyllenhaal

Zach … who had never been the man of her dreams, though she had long since realized that he was the love of her life. Because wasn’t that what mattered, after all: life, reality, here and now … rather than the flimsy gossamer of romantic imaginings? How odd that after all those years of daydreaming about Alain, she could hardly remember what he looked like now. Or how his voice sounded. So much of what she had thought she shared with him had been in her imagination. Odd, too, that after all those years of seeking it elsewhere, she would find happiness with the man who had always been there, down the hall, waiting. And that, though she had been ready to travel halfway across the world for love, in the end she would discover it here … in her own backyard.

“I do,” she said after Zach had nudged her back to reality. It was not at all as she had dreamed it would be, Janie thought as they turned to walk back down the aisle. Beaming, holding hands, they strode through the rows of smiling friends and family, and Janie decided she could stop dreaming now.

  Heart and Soul

One woman envies her sister’s glamorous world—until she becomes a part of it.

After a lifetime in the shadow of the incomparable Miranda, Cassie believes that she can never measure up to her sister. Rather than compete, she withdraws, and the two remain estranged—until a phone call from Miranda changes everything.

At Miranda’s insistence, Cassie flies to New York City for a visit, where she is instead offered a new home and a new job. But when Miranda dies suddenly in a freak accident, Cassie is thrust into a whole new life altogether—Miranda’s.

Living in her sister’s house, working at her job, and even wearing her clothes, the hidden truths behind Miranda’s seemingly perfect existence begin to claw their way forward. Suddenly Cassie finds herself on the verge of losing herself to the world she thought she envied, and her heart to the man she isn’t supposed to love.
