Maddox grabbed a bag from his room and followed the pack outside to the SUV’s. Skye felt her feet running after him before she could even process what was going on. Deep inside of her she realized what his intent was. She had to confront him. Had to stop him. Beg him even.

“Where do you think you are going?” Skye asked grabbing Maddox’s arm before he got into the vehicle. He turned seeing the other demons looking at him with amused eyes and several grins. Suddenly, Skye wanted to smack them all.

“Give me a minute.” Maddox said to his friends closing the door. He took Skye’s arm leading her to the side of the cabin so they could speak alone. Skye was steeling herself for the fight she knew was about to happen.

“I don’t want to hear it. You are not going.” Skye snapped before Maddox even had a chance to take a breath. He rubbed his forehead trying to hold back his knee jerk reaction to tell her she wasn’t his boss. He barely was able to do so.

“Not showing emotion are we love?” Maddox asked teasingly trying to distract her. Skye’s plump lips opened in shock, as she took in a deep breath.

“I’m not emotionless. You know that! I just don’t wear my feelings out on my sleeves like some people do.” She crossed her arms. She looked like an upset kitten who wanted to be a tiger and she couldn’t have been more adorable had she tried.

Maddox couldn’t hold back the small smile on his lips. That only angered Skye more. She dropped her head looking to the ground trying to keep her anger strong. His smiles and soft eyes could always undo her and she didn’t want to look weak.

Maddox unwound her arms pulling her body flush against his. Skye let out a small breath when she looked into his eyes. He kissed her lips softly, carefully leaning his head against hers.

“I have to go. You know that.” he whispered.

“No you don’t. What if I need you here?’ Maddox loved the sound of that.

“Need me for what exactly?” he pressed his body against hers making her gasp.

“To protect my family… and me.” She whispered knowing her argument was weak. She had many capable warriors surrounding them to keep them all safe, yet she just couldn’t handle the idea of allowing Maddox out of her sight. She had lived without him for years, although to him it was only months, and she never wanted to be separated again.

“You and yours are so strong. You will be fine. I’ll miss you too though.” He said with another smile that melted her insides. Damn demon.

“I didn’t say I was going to miss you.” Skye licked her lips unable to hold back a small grin of her own.

“So say it now.” Maddox grabbed the nape of her neck pulling her to him hard. His mouth took hers and he didn’t hold back. His mouth was rough and hard against hers. His tongue danced in her mouth teasing all of her senses. She moaned loudly and didn’t care who heard her. He had this power over her. He made her feel this way. She wanted it. She needed it. Needed him.

“Don’t leave me.” she whispered in between kisses.

“Never.” Maddox lifted her easily wrapping her legs around his waist pushing her against the side of the cabin. Immediately his erection was hard and pressed against her core. He used it as a weapon as he slowly rubbed against her, dragging moan after moan from her. Skye’s head laid on his shoulder biting down on his shoulder drawing blood.

“Shit Skye.” He groaned loving the feeling of his blood being inside of her. He slipped a hand between them opening his pants quickly then ripped her panties off of her letting them fall to the ground. In an instant he was inside of her and she nearly came apart at the fullness of him.

Maddox let out a growl as he pounded inside of her, not holding anything back. Skye encouraged him to go faster and harder and he complied. She scratched and bit at him nearly yelling his name until her voice felt hoarse from it. Their bodies moved in unison and nothing, no power on Earth or anywhere else, could stop them.

“God I love you. I love you. More than anything.” Maddox roared as his climax hit him hard and fast. He didn’t stop though until he felt her inner walls tighten and her own orgasm hit her leaving her gasping for air. Skye’s arms wrapped around him holding him tightly so she would not fall. She felt like her whole body had turned to mush in his very capable hands.

Maddox carefully slid to the ground leaving her on top of him as he sat holding her. He kissed her neck softly feeling her heart pounding as wildly as his was.

“Do you mean it?” Skye asked after a moment of silence.

“That I love you?” Maddox lifted her chin to look at her flushed and beautiful face.

  “Yes.”

“I do. More than anything Skye.” Skye smiled.

“Say it again.” She said with a small giggle.

“I love you Skye.” Reaching up she kissed his lips softly.

  “I love you Maddox.”

After a few moments of stroking her long white hair he lifted her to her feet carefully, then stood in front of her. She looked up at him knowing he had to go. Also knowing she couldn’t stop him. He was a warrior and as a warrior he had to do what he felt was right. He needed to lead his men.

“Skye…” He started but she put her finger over his lips.

“I know. Hurry back.” She said with a nod. Maddox kissed her softly once more. He then walked to the SUV where many cat calls could be heard. Skye smiled knowing he was getting picked on by his friends. Skye walked back to the front of the cabin and looked at him.

“If you were lucky enough to have that gorgeous lady want your time you would have made the world wait too.” Maddox said to his friends with a grin and then drove off. Skye shook her head with a small laugh. Perhaps things were going to be okay after all.

  Chapter Six

It was a mess. A complete and total mess. Nothing was going to be alright ever again. She was sure of it. Skye paced the front porch of the cabin looking for any signs of life and was ready to lose her mind. Maddox and his friends had been gone for three weeks and there was no sign from them. Not even a single phone call or text. Seriously? How hard was it to text “I’m alive,” it couldn’t be that difficult, could it? Not at all.

Skye had been thankful she had been able to concentrate on her training without distraction from Maddox and his magnificent body though. Mike had stepped in as her sparring partner and he held no punches with her. Skye had been afraid he would hold back and try not to hurt her, but when he first took her down she couldn’t help but wonder if he would take his hurt feelings out on her. She knew he wasn’t like that. He was focused on saving them all. Mike had honor above all else.

Skye made sure not to take it personally whenever he managed to take her to the ground. She was taking him down just as much if not more. She saw the pride in his eyes whenever she was able to outmaneuver him, which warmed her heart. He was truly proud of the progress she had made and he was also making his own progress of sorts. The hurt he had hidden behind his eyes had seemed to lessen while he focused on what really need to be done.

Mike walked off to a bench and sat down to give Skye a break from their sparring. He took a long sip of water as he looked at her carefully.

“You’re Nanna’s fine. I don’t think anything happened to her.” Mike finally said.

“If she is, then why can’t we find her? The others have been gone for weeks.” Skye felt as desperate as she sounded. She hated that. She tried hard not to show signs of weakness. She knew that others looked to her for strength and encouragement, but damn it some days she just wanted a break from it all. Today was not going to be one of those days.

“She’s smart. She has survived many years and knows when to hide. I’m sure she’ll be here soon.” His reassuring tone did make Skye feel a bit more at ease. Mike wasn’t known for lying to her or holding back. If he felt there was a chance she was in true danger he would have said so. She appreciated that honesty even when it hurt.

“Maybe she has assembled her own army to join us.” Skye said with a thoughtful smile. Mike laughed.
/>
“True. I wouldn’t put it past her.” He took another long sip of his water and looked down towards his feet to avoid her stare. “I’m sure he is fine too.”

The change in subject to Maddox surprised Skye. She never thought Mike would try to comfort her in his absence. She instantly felt guilty for that thought. It was a very ‘Mike-like’ thing to do. He had always been honorable and good. It made her uncomfortable that he felt he needed to still take care of her in that way though. She owed him, not the other way around.

“I hope so. I’m still sorry about all that.” Skye whispered unable to meet his gaze.

“There’s nothing to forgive anymore Skye. You and I tried. It was a wonderful time together, but I think you were right. There’s something else out there that I’m meant to do and I can feel that as strongly as I feel nature telling me that. I’ll always have love for you and be thankful for our time together but I know I need to focus on what is to come.”

Skye smiled broadly at him. He truly was something else. He had a plan, even though a vague one, and was ready to follow that. Mike noticed the smile on her face and raised his eyebrows questioningly.

“You never cease to amaze me. You rock Mike.” He laughed and stood up.

“Took you a while to figure that out.” He stuck his tongue out at her and walked off leaving her in the back yard alone. She shook her head with a small smile on her face.

They were facing a possible apocalypse. Friends were scattered about, relationships were forming all around them, yet they still held it together and found hope. Skye used to believe hope was a dirty four letter word because it always left her wanting more and feeling empty. Now she had hope for the future.

Skye stood up and spotted Gary and Cloud walking up into the mountain alone hand in hand. She smiled and shook her head. They acted as if they were young randy teenagers unable to keep their hands off of each other. They would make up any excuse to be alone.

Skye immediately thought of her draw to Maddox and wondered if it was the same way for them. They didn’t have the weird electric pull that she did with Maddox but their passion for each other seemed just as hardcore. Just the very thought of Maddox made her want him more and her body ached to be touched by him.

Closing her eyes she could still feel his fingers on her skin. He traced invisible objects on her arms and stomach happily whenever they were able to just hold each other. No words ever needed to be spoken between them. It was as if love had its own language and everything between them was already said without words.

“Do you always daydream in the mountains behind a cabin?” a voice asked her. The voice was familiar yet she couldn’t place it. Skye palmed two daggers on her sides turning quickly to the intruder ready to fight if needed.

She paused when she saw the man. He was familiar to her but she wasn’t sure how. He looked kind. He looked more than kind. He looked peaceful. Somehow nothing but love and healing radiated from him. Skye wanted to trust her instincts about him, but she knew to be cautious of anyone.

“And you are?” Skye asked guardedly. He smiled.

“Dr. Carroll. You haven’t seen me since you were a very young child. You have grown up to be as beautiful as I knew you would be.” Skye knew this conversation would be considered extremely creepy coming from anyone else but she did remember him. He was a fairy. He was the doctor she had seen in her vision who had tried to treat her when Maddox’s father tried to attack her as a child.

“I remember you.” He raised his eyebrows in surprise.

“You do? You were so out of it then and so young.” he commented.

“I went back to see my past. I needed to know things that I had forgotten about. You were in one of the visions. My dad had taken me to you.” He nodded.

“He did. He never brought you back though. I never knew what happened to you until the recent hysteria.”

“So you’ve heard?” Skye said with a resigned sigh.

“Of course. When a child of prophecy scares all the supernatural beings there is bound to be talk. I knew instantly it was you.” Skye stiffened wondering suddenly if he could be trusted.

“Why are you here? Are you here to kill me?” She squeezed the daggers in her hands tighter prepared to use them if she needed, although she had hoped not to have to fight just yet. That was the thing about war though, you never got to choose when it started. Not really.

“No. I’m here because I know what that demon did to you in the park that day.” Skye inhaled sharply.

“How?” she barely managed to ask.

“I knew it meant something and I’ve researched it since the day you left me. I also have a few demon friends that I can trust and thanks to them the secret got out.”

Skye heard the footsteps behind her without turning. She could sense her parents easily now. They walked to her side looking at the doctor. Cloud had no idea who he was but Gary’s face was in shock.

“Doctor?” Gary asked unable to believe he was seeing him.

“He says he knows what the demon did to me that day in the park.” Skye said filling her parents in. Cloud looked over Skye dropped one of the blades and allowed her to take Skye’s hand in hers. Gary had told her about the day in the park and Cloud had always feared something bad had happened to Skye that they were not aware of. The doctor showing up was confirming her belief. Skye gave her hand a small squeeze of encouragement.

“Come inside please.” Gary said showing the doctor to the door. Skye followed behind with her mother. A huge part of her didn’t want to know. What if it was bad? It had to be bad right? He came all this way to find her. What if she really was going to turn to the dark side because of what Luke had done to her when she was a kid? Skye would have stabbed him if he was in front of her right then. As if she weren’t facing enough, now she had to wonder what bad news the doctor was about to deliver.

Everyone seemed to find out about the doctor quickly and they all gathered in the living room. Skye almost wanted to ask the doctor to tell her alone first so that she could deal with it first before allowing everyone else in on her secret, or condition, or whatever it was. She knew they needed to face it together so she allowed for him to stand in front of the room to speak. She sat on the couch between her parents who both were holding her hands to help keep her grounded and give her comfort.

“This may be hard to digest because I know it is difficult to explain.” He paused looking to Skye. “When the demon touched you that day, he pricked you with a small needle that contained his own blood. That blood instantly reacted with your light half which caused you to have the pain you did and is why your father brought you to me that day. What we didn’t realize though, was that it also started awakening the demon part of you as well as the other mixed bloodlines you hold within you. That is why you were in so much pain. Parts of you that laid dormant were waking up and fighting for dominance.” He explained slowly and carefully.

“Are you saying her demon side could have taken over then?” Cloud asked.

“It’s a possibility. Her elven half was stronger than her demon half, so I don’t think it would have likely happened. I think her light half will always be more powerful than her other bloodlines. The other bloodlines will also aid her power and make her more powerful as an elf. Then will give her powers that no one else has, which is why everyone is so terrified of her right now.”

“Wouldn’t the other parts of who I am eventually woken up anyway?” Skye wondered.

“Oh yes. I believe so without a doubt. But Skye, that isn’t the reason I’m here.”

“Please just tell me.” Skye felt her patience wearing thin. He was kind and she appreciated him being there, but waiting to hear whatever news he was holding back was torture.

“You have bonded with a demon, correct?” he asked. Skye bit her lip but nodded.

“Yes. We are together.” She muttered not wanting to have to defend that relationship again.

“A demon that is related to the man who infecte
d you.” It wasn’t a question. It was a statement that he left dangling in the air. A few gasps of understanding were heard. Skye was still trying to put two and two together. Yes, Maddox’s father had infected her with the hopes of her becoming their blood slave and food or whatever else, but that had nothing to do with Maddox or their relationship.

“He put some type of spell on her to make her love his son?” Evan said thinking out loud. Skye looked to him shocked and shook her head in denial.

“That is not true! I’m not under any spell.” Evan gave her a look of pity. She was arguing with a master witch.

“Sort of like a spell, yes.” Dr. Carroll spoke up again. “It bonded her with his bloodline. It just so happens that her and his son ended up finding each other years later.” Skye shook her head harder.

“This isn’t true.” She stood up almost ready to walk out. She couldn’t stand to be told her being with Maddox was based on some infection she had. She loved Maddox and would not hear anyone tell her any differently.

“When the two of you touch does a bright light envelope both of you? A light so strong that it makes you almost act like animals towards each other? Sexually?” Skye’s mouth dropped open at the question.

From the first moment she and Maddox touched that light and electric pull surrounded them. It was something no one else had ever seen happen before. Skye assumed that their love was just that powerful, meant to be, and that was why it happened.

Skye thought back to how she had almost lost her virginity to him right away because the electric pull between them had them going at each other like there was no tomorrow. She had needed him like she needed breath. She still did.

Skye realized everyone was watching her and not saying a word. She looked from face to face seeing pity, realization, and in Mike’s face a sort of satisfaction. It didn’t take much to know what that meant. He assumed she was only not with him because of this supposed infection she had. Skye looked to the doctor.
