“I wouldn’t ask that of you, but the war won’t last forever. If we both make it through…”
“Then we’ll find a way to be together,” Jack said.
“You mean that?” He’d never heard Eli sound so shocked.
“I do.”
“Do you really want to go back to farming?”
Jack shook his head. “I was using it as an excuse to hide myself away. I could sell the farm, and we could…”
“Have rooms close together in the city. You could be my business partner.”
Jack considered the offer. “That’s a possibility, but we’d still have to be discreet.”
“If we’re cunning enough to survive this war, then I’m sure we can manage to hide what we are to each other from the masses.”
Jack was relieved that being captured hadn’t stolen Eli’s optimism. “You really believe that, don’t you?”
“Yes. I refuse to accept anything less.”
“Perhaps you’re right to do so,” Jack said. “After all, you saved the army and brought yourself back from the brink of death.”
“I had a lot of help. Rosemary and Constance deserve as much credit as I do.”
Jack nodded. “You make a good team.”
“See? I’m not so selfish after all.”
Jack raised a brow.
“Not all the time, anyway.”
Jack smiled. “No, not all the time.”
“For example, when I get on my knees and”—Eli slipped his good hand beneath the covers and stroked Jack’s swelling prick—“wrap my mouth around your cock.”
“Eli!” Jack hissed.
“Shhh. Just enjoy it.”
Jack couldn’t allow this. “You are not recovered. You need to rest.”
“Then maybe you should be the one doing the sucking?”
“Maybe I should leave and let you sleep.”
Eli huffed. “I can’t possibly fall asleep with this cockstand.”
Jack didn’t have the strength to deny him. He turned on his side so they were facing each other. He freed his own cock, pushed up Eli’s nightshirt, and wrapped them both in one of his hands.
Eli gasped when Jack gave them a firm stroke.
“Am I hurting you?”
“No!”
He was lying. “Eli?”
“My ribs hurt like hell, but they also hurt when I breathe. You don’t want me to stop that, do you?”
“That’s not—”
“Then get on with it,” Eli insisted.
Jack gave in. He worked them slowly, trying not to jostle Eli.
Eli tried to thrust into his hand, but he couldn’t. “Jack, please.”
Jack chuckled. “You know you love this.”
Eli frowned. “I do, but when I lay there on the floor of the cell where Stephens put me, I thought about how you said I was too reckless, and I swore that if I survived, I’d cure myself of that. Yet here I am, in bed with you, planning a life with you.”
Jack cupped Eli’s face, forcing him to look at Jack. “Some risks are worth taking. You taught me that.”
Eli’s eyes widened. “I can’t believe you just said that.”
Jack gave Eli what he wanted then, stroking him faster and faster. “Spill for me, Eli; I want to watch you.”
Eli gave a strangled cry as he coated Jack’s hand with his seed.
The sight of him in ecstasy brought Jack over as well.
“I…” Jack couldn’t catch his breath enough to speak.
“What?”
A few moments later, he managed. “I love you, Elias Ashfield.”
“And I love you, Captain West. You’re worth risking anything for.”
And Jack would do anything to see Eli smile like he did at that moment. “And you’re worth any trouble you cause, no matter how great.”
Eli smirked at him. “You may live to regret that statement.”
“As long as I survive and get to be with you, I don’t think I will.” Jack kissed him thoroughly, claiming him for then and always.
