“Oh, God,” I gasp as he lets go of my breasts, kissing his way downward over my stomach. The tip of his tongue circles my belly button before making its way further down. Then he places a kiss on my mound, making a stroking motion with his lips toward my crack. Gavin’s tongue glides slowly from my opening to my clit, which he toys with, making my heart race. He lifts my legs onto his shoulders, and I put my feet on them, pushing toward him. My hands stroke his hair until he nibbles gently on my bud and I grab hold of the sheets.

Then he shoves two fingers inside me, pushing them apart to open me up, looking for that spot inside me that has me racing toward climax. His tongue twirls my clit mercilessly, and his fingers are gliding in and out in a steady rhythm until I arch my back because I can feel tingling waves radiating out from my abdomen. I suddenly come with such force that I can’t move for a moment, and I have to pull his head off when he won’t stop. “Stop,” I gasp and moan again.

He slides over me with a grin, rubbing his cock on my wet pussy. “If they didn’t know by now, your scream just betrayed us,” he whispers, kissing me. Our flavors mingle, but I don’t mind in the least. Then he pushes his tip up against my opening and enters me, which probably isn’t just painful for me, as I can judge by our hissing intake of breath.

“Fuck, you’re so tight,” he gasps, shoving slowly into me.

  “And you’re . . . huge,” I reply with a moan.

He kisses my lips and thrusts into me hard. I scream out loud, digging my nails into his arms. “They’ll see tomorrow what I’ve been doing to you all night,” he murmurs into my ear. I moan as his thrusts get more regular and powerful. Then he pushes against me and lets his hips circle against mine, all the while kissing and teasing my nipples. I put my hands on his shoulders and shove him upward, wrapping my legs around him more tightly, using the momentum to roll us over so I’m lying on top of him. Gavin laughs quietly as I sit up, moving slowly on top of him. He cups my breasts in his hands, massaging them while his fingers twirl my nips. I move faster, moaning as he pushes deeper into me. “You sexy little slut,” he groans, sitting up. He puts his lips on mine immediately, answering my movements from below. Gavin puts his hands on my ass, kneading it until he grabs my hips, adjusting my speed. It doesn’t take long until I’m about to burst. “Oh my God . . . oh, God . . . Gavin!” I scream, coming for the second time.

A few thrusts later, he blows his load inside of me, falling down onto his back and pulling me with him. We lie there in silence. His fingers comb through my hair and make little circles on the back of my shoulders, which makes me shiver with bliss.

  “I love you,” I whisper.

“I love you, too, babe.” He kisses the top of my head and takes a deep breath. “That was pretty . . .”

  “Hard?”

“Amazing, I was going to say.”

I yawn quietly and shut my eyes. “True, but I’m done for.”

“Close your eyes and sleep, then,” he murmurs as I’m already dozing off.

When I leave the bedroom the next morning to get changed in mine, Mike comes out of the room next door. He grins at me. “Sleep well?”

  “Can’t complain,” I reply with a wink.

“We thought so when you were getting it on.”

  I laugh quietly. “Sorry.”

“No problem, we fled into the cellar to work on some songs when you couldn’t keep it together anymore. I’m surprised you could convince Gavin to be in a relationship. Normally he’s not the type for that kind of thing.”

I tilt my head. “Why not?”

“His last relationship wasn’t too great. Meredith cheated on him with his best friend the very second he turned his back on her. Since then he’s kept away from women and prefers to spend his time with books,” Mike answers quietly.

“When did that happen?” I want to know.

“Two years ago. He found out after our first US tour.”

“And he hasn’t had a girlfriend since?”

“Only one-night stands with some chicks he picked up clubbing with Azer.”

“Damn,” I exclaim. “At least now I can understand his suspicion of Pax.”

“Well, kids that get burned avoid the fire, and you seem to have a lot of it.”

I shake my head and giggle. “Well, I’m pretty temperamental.”

“I could hear that pretty well. Prepare yourself for some even worse teasing from Azer and Alexis when you get downstairs,” he warns me.

“Right. Thanks, Mike.” We part ways again and I walk into my bedroom to get dressed. I already showered in Gavin’s bathroom. I’m still wearing his boxers and T-shirt, since he put my stuff in the laundry.

When I enter the living room fifteen minutes later, the gazes of the other Downstair Alley members are glued to me. Alexis grins at me smugly, just like Azer, but Linden, Mike, and Gavin are talking animatedly. I clear my throat. “Good morning.”

“Did you sleep well, Screaming Beauty?” Alexis asks, amused.

“Yeah, I have to say I did.”

“When you finally did.” He grins at me.

“Jealous?” I ask, sitting down on Gavin’s lap.

“No, only scarred for life,” he snorts, and I laugh, too.

“Now you know how I felt, Gav,” Linden says cheerfully.

Gavin shrugs. “I don’t mind that Alexis seems to have been bitten by a troll.”

I lean back, giving him a light kiss on the cheek. “At least it was just a bite, imagine if he’d been kicked.”

“Oh, sure, go ahead and make fun of the guy who doesn’t get any, that’s not frustrating at all,” Alexis complains drily.

We start laughing and can’t stop for a long while.

  Chapter 14

“Are you kidding me? I’ve been showing you the steps for over an hour now, and you’re still stepping out of line!” I bark at Gavin, who’s messed up his steps for the umpteenth time now.

“Babe, the paso doble isn’t exactly easy, and I find it unkind how you’ve been taking out your bad mood on me for days on end now!” he bites back. We’re both frustrated because nothing’s going the way we want it to. The threats still haven’t stopped; on the contrary, they’re getting worse. After we got back from visiting Linden and Thalia’s friends, we’ve been constantly stuck at the house rehearsing, which frustrates me even more. I wanted to check out the city, but Gavin keeps stopping me from doing so.

“I know, but I’ve been dancing my ass off here for over an hour now, and you just can’t seem to get the hang of it. What’s up with you? You didn’t used to be so goddamn learning resistant! Also you’re the one who keeps making me stay inside. It annoys me!”

“I’m sorry I can’t concentrate because my girlfriend is being threatened by some wackos!” he yells back.

I take a deep breath. “You know what? I’m going to go shopping now, I really don’t feel like being bitched at by you anymore.” With those words, I turn on my heel and walk toward the door.

  “Lane . . . Babe . . . Please stay,” he says a little more quietly.

“No. I’m done with this, I feel trapped and need some fresh air. Worry about me all you want, but I’m not scared, all I want right now is to get away from you.”

“Lane!” he calls after me as I’m on my way to my room. A quick shower and then I’ll be on my way. I finally want to see downtown and go shopping a little, even though I can’t afford much. Nothing, really, but looking is free, right? I disappear into my room, slamming the door behind me and retreating to the bathroom. As soon as I’m undressed, I jump in the shower. I turn up the hot water to relax my muscles. Only when my skin starts getting red do I turn on the cold water tap.

“Do you enjoy provoking me?” Gavin asks suddenly, which is why I turn around quickly, stumbling in the process.

“What?” I reply, taken by surprise.

He grabs my shoulders quickly so I don’t slip. “I asked if you enjoy provoking me!” he replies, irked.

  “I could ask you
the same thing. Personally, I’d like to take a shower now and not talk.”

Gavin slips off his shoes and comes into the shower with me. He looks at me angrily and has me trapped against the wall. “What’s the deal, Lane?”

  “Let me go.”

“First I want to know what’s really going on with you.”

“I’m annoyed, I already told you. I feel trapped!”

His clothes are now dripping wet, which makes him look somewhat reckless, and his gaze is inscrutable. “All right, then go and don’t let me stop you.” With those words he steps out of the shower, leaving me alone.

I take a deep breath, lathering up and trying to forget this disagreement that wasn’t bad enough to be called a fight.

I leave my bedroom in a summer dress and sandals because of the heat. When I approach the door, Linden comes over to me. “Gavin said you were going out.”

  “Did he?” I reply.

“Yeah, and we all think you shouldn’t be going alone, so . . .”

I roll my eyes. “So what?”

He raises his hands to silence me. “So I asked Thally if she’d go with you. She said she’d like to do something with you.”

“Well, great. I’m getting a babysitter,” I sigh, shaking my head. “Sorry.”

“She’ll be here in a moment. As soon as you’re bored, she can bring you back here.”

“Thanks, Linden.” I look past him into the living room, where Gavin gives me a grumpy look while the other three are talking. “He’s angry, huh?”

“Not angry, just miffed that he didn’t realize you weren’t feeling good. Maybe you should talk tonight,” he suggests.

I lift my gaze to his turquoise eyes. “OK.” Then I turn toward the door. “I’ll wait for Thalia outside.”

“I’ll join you if you don’t mind, since I’ll only be seeing her tonight, because of your trip,” he says, smiling.

  “That’s fine.”

We leave the hall and I sit down on the front steps.

“You know, Gavin’s just worried for you. He doesn’t know what to do, which is why he vetoed all your plans of going out.”

I cross my arms. “I’m scared, too, but we can’t let it run our lives like this. Sure, we said we’d keep our relationship from the public, but I’d still like to have a somewhat normal life.”

Linden sits down next to me. “And you think that isn’t possible with him?”

“Slowly I’m starting to feel like that might be the case,” I admit quietly.

“So go public. It can’t get any worse than it is, and Gavin could actually do something instead of having Joel publish defensive statements,” Linden says.

“One thing would change,” I sigh.

  “What would that be?”

I look at him. “I’d be prosecuted just like Thalia when the two of you got together.”

  “Would that be so bad?”

“I’m not too crazy about finding out.”

“Lane, you’re constantly on TV with him, and you were at your friend’s premiere together.”

“But that’s completely different,” I reply.

Linden laughs quietly. “Tell me what’s so different about it.” He sees the confusion taking over my face. “See? There isn’t much that would change.”

“Do you think it would be a good idea to make our relationship public?”

Linden breathes out slowly, calming down a little.

“All you would be doing is to confirm what everybody is already guessing at.”

“How was it with you and Thalia? Did something change for you?”

He shrugs. “I was the bad guy for a while, because my ex-fiancée had just broken up with me, and I got together with Thally immediately. They wrote that Trish was crying her eyes out while I was running around acting like a whore. That wasn’t so nice, but it passes.” He puts an arm around my shoulders. “It’s true Gavin has become an absolute heartthrob, but those fans can’t honestly believe he’ll stay single forever so they can have a go at him, can’t you see that? He loves you, Lane, I know that, and we can all see it.”

I nod slowly, looking down the driveway at a black convertible with loud rock music blaring from the windows as it approaches us.

  “That’s Thally.”

“That’s what she listens to?” I ask, surprised.

“Yeah, but we do, too, so it’s not a problem.” Linden gets up and helps me to my feet as well.

“I wasn’t really expecting that from a boyband.”

Linden laughs again. “There’s a lot you don’t know about us.”

“Yeah, I guess that’s true. Gavin surprised me, too, with his reading habits.”

“Yeah, he’s been doing that since he broke up with Meredith.”

“Hey!” Thalia calls, getting out. She comes over and throws her arms around Linden.

I look away, I’ve never liked watching couples kissing. It makes me feel kind of uncomfortable standing there. I feel sort of voyeuristic. I clear my throat. “Hi, Thalia.”

She pulls away from him. “When will you start calling me Thally?” she asks me, giving me a brief hug. “Ready for our trip?”

I nod, adjusting the strap on my purse.

“Great, then let’s get going.” She points at her car with a smile. I walk over while she says good-bye to Linden.

Two minutes later she’s sitting in the seat next to me and she revs the engine. “You seem like you’re in a bad mood.” She drives off, and I’m clinging on to the door handle for dear life, since she apparently likes to drive with her foot to the floor.

“I am, sort of, but it’s better than before.”

“Oh, so that’s why Linden was waiting out there with you.”

“Actually, he said he was waiting for you.”

“Uh-huh. Does he seem so calming to you, too?”

“So-so. Gavin more, when he isn’t angry, that is.”

“Did you two have a fight?” she asks me, looking over as she stops at a light.

“It was more like a disagreement.”

She laughs quietly and starts driving again once the light turns green. “Same thing.”

“All right, we were having a very loud discussion.”

“OK. Was it because he keeps you from going out?”

  How does she know? “Yeah.”

She takes a turn. “Linden told me how much Gavin is worrying. I’m sorry I ruined your stay here by telling him.”

“No problem, I’m sure it was with the best of intentions, not to get back at me for something.”

“No, I was worried, too, I still am, but I don’t think anybody will be ambushing us today. Nobody knows the guys are here.”

I lean back, putting on my shades. “Is it hard?”

“What do you mean?” Thally asks.

“The relationship with Linden . . . Is it hard?”

She takes a deep breath. “Sometimes I miss him pretty badly. I can’t be around him all the time, because of college, and a transfer isn’t an option, because of my friends here. We Skype or talk on the phone every night, but that usually just makes me miss him worse. So, yeah, it’s hard, but that means the honeymoon phase isn’t over as quickly. It’s still like we just got together yesterday,” she tells me.

“How long have you been together now?”

  “A little over a year.”

“Would you give up anything for him?”

  “What do you mean?”

“Gavin asked me if I’d come to Orlando with him,” I tell her thoughtfully. “He said nothing’s keeping me in New York, because I don’t have anything there anyway.”

She draws in air with a hiss. “Oh, jeez . . . Would you go with him?”

I shake my head. “No. I’d want to stay in New York, because my friends are there, and my family isn’t too far away, either. I wouldn’t want to exchange that for a city I don’t know, in which I know nobody but Gavin, especially since he’ll always be on tour anyway once the show is over.”
/>   “They’ll have a vacation after that, first,” she says, trying to reassure me.

“I had no idea,” I reply.

“Gavin has a lot of other stuff on his plate right now, I guess,” she says, stepping on the gas again.

Oh my God, if she goes off the road now, we’re toast. “Sure, but . . .”

Thally swerves around a car that just came shooting over the intersection. “Fucking asshole!” she curses.

“OK, could you back off the gas a little? You drive pretty crazily.”

  “Are you scared?”

  I nod hectically.

  “Why didn’t you say so?”

  “I just did,” I reply.

She laughs, cutting the speed. “Sorry about that.”

  “No problem.”

Then she clicks her tongue. “How about spending his vacation in Orlando with him? You could at least get a look at the city that way.”

“That’s actually a really good idea.”

“So . . . That solves your problem for a little while, anyway.” She grins at me.

“Aren’t you buying anything?” Thally asks me with irritation, because, contrary to her, I haven’t bought or even tried on anything.

“No, I just wanted to do a bit of window-shopping, to clear my head a bit. You know.”

“You can’t just go shopping without buying anything,” she tells me indignantly.

“Sure I can.” I keep gazing at the display.

“Lane, please just buy something, even if it’s just a top. Then at least I won’t feel so bad when I max out my credit card.”

I laugh out loud. “All right, if I see something I like, I’ll get it.”

Thally gives me a confused look. “Are you honestly telling me you haven’t found anything you like, even though we’re already in the fourth shop now?”

“There was just nothing that knocked my socks off yet. It didn’t go zing.”

  “Don’t you Hotel Transylvania me.”

Now it’s my turn to look confused. “Huh?”

“You know, Hotel Transylvania, that kids’ movie . . . They sing a whole song about first love where they keep saying ‘zing,’ too.” She giggles.
