“Fire away. I’m ready to answer your questions.”
Where to begin? “I’m beginning to understand how men, like your dads, could marry the same woman. What I’m still not clear about is how your mother handles them. Three husbands. And three sons. She’s got to be exhausted and yet she looks amazing.”
He smiled, his eyes filling with pride for his mother. “She also teaches biology at the high school, but she says she is going to retire soon. I’ll believe that when I see it. Since Mom is a teacher, she taught us how to help around the house. My brothers and I and our dads could each run the house if necessary. The one thing you need to know about my family and all the families in Wilde, Mary, is the women here are treated like queens and princesses. It might be a bit old fashioned, but treating a woman like a lady is expected here.”
“Do you still help since you have your own home?”
“Not as much but anything she needs, we are always willing to lend a hand. You might be surprised at what our dads do. They rotate the chores.”
She smiled, imagining how loving a home Dillon had been brought up in. The maids in her parents’ house did a very good job of cleaning, but there was no love there.
“Dillon, tell me more about growing up with Craig and Dan.”
He told her several stories about him and his brothers’ childhood. Some made her laugh, and some tugged at her heart. All of them were endearing.
They finished their meal.
“I’ll put away everything,” he said. “You just relax and enjoy our surroundings.”
“Just like your mom and Craig.” She grinned. “Will I ever be able to help with meals?”
“Maybe in a week or two. Or a month.”
“Uh-huh.” She knew he was pushing for her to stay longer, but she wasn’t ready to commit to anything or any timeline. “You’re the youngest. What was it like? Did they pick on you?”
He laughed. “Hell yes, they did. That’s a brother thing. But there was always love and respect between us. Still is. They are my best friends, my confidants, and the two men I will start a family with of our own.”
“I wish my life had been like you and your brothers. But it wasn’t.”
“Craig told Dan and me a little about your conversation this morning,” he said.
“I understand,” she said with a smile. “My sister and I are very close, too. We share everything.” Except I left without telling her first. “I called her at the diner when I arrived. And early this morning I called her again and gave her your parents’ home phone number.”
“Mary, I’m glad you have your sister, but I wish your parents had been different with you. More like mine.”
“Me, too.” She sighed. “What else did Craig tell you and Dan?”
He grabbed her hand and squeezed. “I know about the bruises and about your ex. To be quite truthful, I’d like to get my hands on that asshole.”
She believed him. “That won’t be necessary, Dillon. Paul doesn’t know where I am. And I want to keep it that way. If I never see him again, it will be too soon.”
“My brothers and I will make sure you are safe. I don’t want you to leave. Stay here in Wilde, Mary. Stay.”
She leaned over and kissed him. “You make me feel so special. And I’m not special.”
“No doubt you’ve been told that by your ex so much that you believe it yourself. But it is not true.” His unwavering gaze made her tremble. “You may not believe this, but here are the facts. And not in any special order, sweetheart. You’re beautiful. In fact, the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. I can already tell how kind you are. Mom told me how you wanted to help her with dinner. And at the diner, I remember how you had to get ahold of your sister. You care, Mary. You care deeply. And you’re funny.” He grinned. “You have the quickest wit I’ve ever encountered. So therefore, I know you are extremely smart.”
“Funny, am I? Perhaps I should drop journalism and work on a stand-up act.”
He laughed. “See what I mean. You’re exceptional, sweetheart. I love everything about you. That cute way you sipped the wine. How you always give a little moan of delight after each bite you take.”
“I do not.” She grinned.
“Yes, you do. And it’s charming. I’m so glad you came to Wilde. Stay. Please stay. At least for a while.”
“You’ve given me a lot to think about. My plan was to go to California to further my career so I could get as far away from Paul as I could.”
“That was a good plan when you left, but you didn’t know you were going to run into me and my brothers.” He pressed his lips to hers, and she melted into his kiss.
“You’re wonderful. Your family is wonderful.” She took a deep breath. How can one woman be enough for three men? “But I’ve never experienced anything like this.”
“Maybe it’s time you did experience it.” He pulled her in close and tenderly kissed her.
I’ve never felt so special and so safe in my life. She parted her lips, inviting him to deepen the kiss. As his tongue tangled with hers, the pressure for more tightened inside her. She wrapped her arms around him and held him tight.
He leaned her down onto the blanket, covering her with more kisses. She sat up and removed her T-shirt, pulling it over her head. He ripped off his shirt, exposing his muscled chest and six-pack abdomen.
He reached around and unsnapped her bra. He yanked it off and tossed it high into the air. It got caught in a nearby tree’s branch.
She laughed. “Now you’ve done it, Dillon. You’re going to have to climb to get that back.”
“Who says I want you to put it back on?” His hot stare on her breasts made her tingle. When his large hands cupped her mounds, her temperature rose.
She leaned back on her elbows, inviting him to kiss her nipples.
He pressed his hot mouth to her taut buds, circling them with his tongue.
“Mmm. Good.” She smiled. “I didn’t say that.”
“Yes, you did. And I plan on getting more moans from you today, sweetheart.” He took her hand and stood her up. “It’s much easier to remove your jeans this way. And I want to get a close look at your incredible body.”
“How do you know it’s incredible, Dillon? I might have on a girdle.”
“That will be the day.” He unzipped her jeans and panties, tugging them down to her ankles. Then he laughed.
“What’s so funny?”
“This.” He slapped her ass and then moved back from her several steps.
“No fair.” She smiled. “You wait until I get out of these clothes. You’ll be sorry.”
He grinned. “Until then, better to see you, my dear.”
“You’re so bad,” she said. “Have you been invading my dreams?”
“I hope so, but I can’t wait to see what you intend to do to me, sweetheart.”
She stepped out of the puddle of clothes at her feet and started chasing him. It felt so good and free to be with him in this secret place. They ran in circles, and she started laughing.
Until Dillon let her catch him. “Please don’t hurt me, Mary. I’m innocent.”
“Innocent, my ass.” She pulled his jeans down and smacked his ass. Then she ran back to the blanket and fell down laughing.
He bent down and retrieved a condom from the pocket of his jeans. Mesmerized, she watched him roll down the rubber over his massive erect cock. He marched over to her. “You’ve been a very bad girl, Mary. I’m going to have to punish you.”
She pursed her lips, trying to stifle her giggles. “Please, mister. I promise I will be good.”
“I’m sure you will be, my dear.” He crawled on top of her. “Let’s see how good you can be.”
She wrapped her arms around his neck and gave him a deep kiss until her toes curled.
He moved his hands down her sides, making her skin tingle. “You’re starting off pretty damn good, young lady.”
“So are you, young man.”
“I must have more of this beau
tiful body,” he said, and slid down, kissing her breasts. Her nipples began to throb.
She ran her hands over his body, exploring all his manly flesh with her fingers. She arched her back, pushing her breasts into his mouth.
“You taste so heavenly, sweetheart.” His deep tone rumbled out of him, making her want him even more. He gradually moved down her body, kissing and licking every inch of her as he went.
She moaned, desiring more. So much more.
He parted her legs wide and pressed his lips to her pussy, kissing her there so gently. She could feel herself getting wetter and wetter. And him getting wilder and wilder with every one of his salacious kisses.
“Oh, Dillon. I want you. Mmm. I want you so bad.”
“I want you, too, sweetheart.” He ran his tongue over her clit, igniting more heat inside her.
She grabbed his shoulders, trying to urge him up so that she could feel his dick in her body. That was what she needed. More than anything at this moment.
When he moved up higher, she grabbed hold of his thick cock and brought it to her pussy.
She could feel the tip of him pressing against her, which only added to her increasing pressure. “I need to feel you inside my body, Dillon. I need it so badly.”
“Oh, you are a naughty little thing, aren’t you?” His hungry stare was overwhelming and powerful. “Just like I knew you would be.”
He thrust his dick slowly into her depths. Every inch he claimed made her dizzy and hot. He grabbed her by the wrists, guiding her arms against the blanket and over her head.
She lifted her hips to get more of him and then wrapped her legs around his waist.
His thrusts came faster and faster, each plunge into her body delivering new and electric sensations.
“I’m close,” she confessed. “Can’t hold back much longer.”
“Just a little bit more, sweetheart. Hold back as long as you can. I don’t want it to end.”
She gritted her teeth, trying to will her body into submission. “Dillon,” she screamed, “I’m coming.”
In one powerful stroke, he plunged all the way into her depths. “Yes. Fuuck.”
As she lost herself in the climax he’d given her, she could feel his pulsing dick in her pussy.
He ended their lovemaking with a sweet, tender kiss and held her tight.
She leaned her head into him, shaking from the intensity that had been released in her body.
They remained side by side, holding onto one another, feeling the soft breeze that was moving in the trees against their skin.
“I feel so very close to you,” he said. “Like I’ve known you my whole life. This may not be fair, but I’m going to ask you again. Please stay.”
“I promise, Dillon. I will think about it.”
Chapter Twelve
“Carol, do you mind if I make a long distance call to my sister?” Mary asked. “I’ll pay you for it.”
“You’ll do no such thing,” Carol said. “You go right upstairs and call your sister. You’ll have plenty of privacy. I saved you a piece of my chocolate pie. I’d love to have a chat with you after your phone call.”
“I’d like that, too.”
“I’ll put on a pot of coffee for us, honey.” Carol grinned. “Hurry on. Forgive me but I’m anxious for some girl talk. Living with six males all these years, it’s so nice to have another woman in the house with me.”
“I will hurry. I promise.” She bolted up the stairs, realizing that Carol had been more like a mother to her in the last few days than her own had ever been.
She closed the door to her room and dialed her sister. “Maude, this is Mary.”
“Are you still in that small town? I wish you would reconsider and come home.”
“I’m not coming back, but you can come here.” She told her sister all the things she’d discovered in Wilde, including the three wonderful Wilde brothers. “Their mother is so sweet. I can’t wait for you to meet Carol.”
“I thought you were going to California. It doesn’t sound like that is still your plan. Am I wrong?”
“I’m still thinking about what my next move is but I just don’t know right now. I really feel at home for the first time in my life. I’m confused.”
“Mary, that town is crazy. You weren’t raised that way.”
“I wasn’t raised any way. You know that. We were only taught that keeping up with the Joneses was all that mattered in life. But it isn’t true. None of it.”
“Just because we had terrible parents doesn’t mean you have to go do something you will regret for the rest of your life. I can tell you have feelings for those three guys. But dating all of them? That’s just crazy.”
“Maybe so, but that’s why I need you here to make a rational decision. I’ve only spent time with two of them, but you’re right. I like all three of them very much. Tomorrow I go with Dan for our interview.”
“Get your story written and get out of there, Mary. I’ll meet you in Los Angeles day after tomorrow. How does that sound to you?”
“I’m done running. Please come to Wilde, Maude. I need you. I need your help to make a decision.”
“Are you sure you haven’t already made up your mind?”
She sighed. “I’m confused. I need my sister.”
“Then you’ll have her. I have to let work know, but I will be in Wilde as soon as I can. Don’t expect me to give you my blessing on this craziness. I can understand after what you went through with Paul why you are so mixed up. But I’ll help you figure all of this out. Maybe we’ll both move to California together. I need a change of scenery, too. And I also need my sister.”
“I love you, Maude.”
“And I love you. See you soon.”
She placed the receiver on the cradle. There was no doubt how Maude felt about the Wilde lifestyle. She knew her sister would arrive intent on getting her to leave town for California immediately. Should she? Her head agreed with Maude. This whole thing was crazy. But her heart told a different story. When she saw how Carol was treated by her three husbands, she imagined what it might be like if her dream of being married to Craig, Dillon, and Dan came true. Would they treat her the same as their fathers treated their mother? She believed they would. But was that enough to make such an unusual marriage work for the rest of her life?
She laughed. “You’re getting the cart before the horse, Mary. You’ve only been on one date with two of the brothers. It’s not like you’re engaged.” But every minute more I spend with them the more I find them irresistible.
She walked down the stairs and headed into the kitchen.
“How was your sister, Mary?” Carol poured them coffee and placed two slices of chocolate pie on the table.
“Maude misses me and I miss her. She says she’s going to come to Wilde in a couple of days.”
“Oh my goodness. Two ladies in my home. I can’t wait. How exciting. I’ll get the second guest bedroom set up for your sister. It used to be Dillon’s room.”
“You don’t have to do that.”
“I want to and I will, young lady. No arguments.” Carol winked.
She took a bite of Carol’s pie. “Mmm. Oh my God, this is delicious.”
“It’s so easy to make. Do you like to bake?”
“I’ve only made cookies. My nanny showed Maude and me once.”
Carol tilted her head slightly. “What about your mother?”
“She was always too busy.”
“I can tell that makes you sad, Mary. I’m so sorry.”
Unable to hold back from the loving woman, she told her about growing up in the Kincaid household.
With eyes welling up Carol reached across the table and took her hand. “I know how you must feel. I, too, had a terrible childhood. Suffice it to say my parents loved their whiskey more than me. I ended up in an orphanage.”
“Oh my God, at least my parents were attorneys and provided for us.”
“Mary, children need love more than money, more t
han anything. Love is the most important thing you give to a child.” Carol wiped her eyes. “My mother-in-law passed away last year. She was the only mother I really ever had. She gave me love. Mary, if you will have me, I would like to be that for you.”
Happy tears fell from her eyes, and she got up and came around the table. She wrapped her arms around the dearest woman she’d ever met in her life. “Yes. Please.”
They held each other.
“Is it okay if I say ‘I love you,’ Carol?”
“It will be okay only if you call me ‘Mom,’ and I love you, too.” Carol kissed her on the cheek. “Now sit back down and finish your pie, young lady. I still want to hear all about your dates with Craig and Dillon. You have no idea how excited Dan is about your date tomorrow with him.”
Wilde, Nevada, had been a little sidetrack on her journey. Soon she would have to leave the town for her new future. Deep inside, she knew it would break her heart in two. But what choice did she have? She’d made up her mind on what she needed to do to get far away from her ex. Get the story, and then get back on the road. That’s what I must do.
“Blame it on me being a reporter or someone who can never quite control her curiosity, but I must know more about your story, Mom. You mentioned that you’re not from Wilde either. Can you tell me how you started dating three men and how you came to make such a relationship work?”
“I’d be happy to, Mary. I had just graduated from college. I was living in San Francisco when I met Jack at a diner one morning.” Carol’s face lit up, and she told her about how she’d fallen in love with her three husbands. What a whirlwind romance.
Mary hung on every word and began to realize that it was possible to be in love with three men at the same time.
As they finished their dessert, Carol started another pot of coffee.
They talked late into the morning hours.
When she finally did put her head on the pillow, Mary smiled before drifting off, thinking about Carol’s last words to her.
“Goodnight, daughter. Love you.”
