  “And on movie nights,” Lilly said.

  “I’ll get to read more of those lovely stories of yours.” Leila gave her two gnarled thumbs up.

  “Then it’s settled,” Eva said. “You’ll be living with me from now on. It’s high time I wipe the cobwebs out of that guestroom. Terribly lonely living there without company.”

  “Oh, you won’t be lonely anymore,” Leila said. “But I’m warning you, I’ve got some strange habits. And hobbies.”

  “Name one,” Eva said.

  “I like – look, don’t tell anyone this, but I like fixing up old cars. So you’ll be watching a lot of that Top Gear show. You know, with that horrible sarcastic Jeremy Clarkson guy?”

  Eva broke into applause. “Wonderful. I have a Mustang in my garage that needs an oil change. And I’m afraid Top Gear ended.”

  “No, it’s back,” Amy said. “They’re bringing out a new season.”

  “But I thought that snarky guy through his dinner at someone,” Eva said and scratched her temple.

  “No, he did but –”

  Heather tuned out the talk and slipped off the sofa again. She strolled through to the hall and spotted her hubby on his way down the stairs.

  “Everything all right?” Ryan asked. He wrapped her in a bear hug and pulled her close. She listened to his heartbeat, eyes shut tight.

  “Everything is perfect,” she said.
