Jimmy bolted in front of her and if she would have had the time, she would have rolled her eyes again. Damn, what a weenie.
Shots pinged against the SUV as they ran and jumped in. Thankfully no one was hit during this and Harper was pushing buttons trying to get the men to answer her while Bruno and Jimmy were in the back panting silently. She heard the crackle of the radio and Tank came over the speaker.
“Harper?” Tank growled.
“Yeah, got a problem,” Harper snapped.
“Yeah, we hear it, but we can’t get to you, he has us cut off,” Tank said.
“Kit,” Harper snapped and she turned and looked at her. “Shots came from 65 degrees to the west, punch in the code on the key pad and get ready, we are gonna blow his ass outta that tree. The guys can’t come in with a sniper.”
“Okay,” Kit said and her hands were shaking as she did exactly what Harper told her. Harper was leaning to the side trying to make sure she was pointing the rocket in the right direction.
“Have you ever shot one of these?” Kit whispered.
“Uh, no, but I know the basics,” Harper said and Jimmy and Bruno made a noise. “Shut it,” Harper said.
“Okay, turn it a few more clicks to the north, little bastard is hiding in a nook,” Harper whispered.
“Got it,” Kit said.
“Okay, count of three. We fire, I will watch to see if he falls,” Harper ordered.
“Okay,” Kit whispered.
“Three…two…one…fire,” Harper yelled and Kit was caught up in the moment and yelled.
“Releasing the Kraken,” and the world behind them exploded into a fiery ball as the four people in the SUV watched on with their mouths wide open.
Epilogue
“And she yelled ‘Releasing the Kraken’,” Harper laughed at Kit who was sitting in the chair across the table from her. They had made it to Wyoming, and were currently in a debriefing about the incident.
Tank and Sonny had been in shock when they learned that Kit had been the one to push the button of the rocket launcher, and she now wanted to learn how to shoot a gun.
It had been a long ride to Wyoming with both Harper and Kit on an adrenalin high, but they thankfully crashed about an hour into the ride and the men had talked quietly about how fucked up the mission had gone.
Jimmy B and Bruno, along with their other sidekicks, had all been taken into custody, charged with the beating of Mr. Thomas and attempted kidnapping, for now. The Feds said they would have more charges in the coming days.
The sniper who got away was who they were worried about. Whoever was following Jimmy and Bruno had been skilled—military trained skilled—and it made all of them nervous. The FBI had demanded that Kit be brought to them, and Harper had pulled some strings. They were currently under the impression that she had run from their custody and was off the grid. Apparently, Healing, Wyoming was the perfect place to hide.
The bounty on Kit’s head was now at a hundred thousand, and the guys were trying to figure out where the order had come from. Zero was undercover now and firmly in place on the streets of Denver. Soon they were going to be able to find some answers, because Zeus received a phone call that the CIA was joining the task force, they were waiting for the agent’s name, all this came about because another load of guns had gone missing from a military installation. This time, they were going to stop them. They had no other choice.
Tank and Sonny had made numerous calls to try to get in touch with their sister, on the off chance she would go to the cabin. However, Philly still wasn’t returning their calls.
It hadn’t taken long for the woman to take Kit into their fold and Tank didn’t know if that was a good or bad thing. All he did know was that even though a threat remained, he felt complete now. He had his brother and they had the woman that would be the glue to hold them firmly in place. He couldn’t wait to start their life together.
