She nodded. “Besides Sadbury, running into any relatives was my biggest concern.”

“You’re the Earl of Worth’s granddaughter?” Jasper repeated in awe before he burst into laughter much to Daisy’s surprise. “I should have put all the pieces of the puzzle together when you told me about your parents’ death. You have the Worth nose, as well. And while you kept your poise remarkably, I could tell you were uncomfortable when I introduced you to Jack and Susan.”

“What puzzle pieces are you talking about, my lord?” Daisy was bewildered by his words.

“The Earl and Countess of Worth have been searching for you ever since your parents died. It is well-known amongst the ton, but I had never heard it mentioned what the granddaughter’s name was. The on dit is that they kept themselves informed of your parents’ whereabouts throughout your life. They tried to make peace with your mother at various times, but apparently she rejected every effort they made. The rumor mongers have been speculating upon the size of the dowry your grandparents wish to settle upon you.” Jasper laughed again. “No wonder you don’t want to accept my suit. You could hold out for an earl or even a duke.” He paused for a moment as another thought crossed his mind. “That must have been who the messenger was who came to Abernathy just before we left.”

Daisy didn’t seem to hear his last statement because she was filled with a sense of wonder. “Do you really mean it? I have family that wants me?”

“You have a rather large family waiting for you. It is an accepted fact amongst the ton that the Worths have deeply regretted their words and actions in connection with your mother. They have been pining for the day that they could welcome you into their family.” Daisy felt his searching eyes examining her face. “But I would even more deeply like to make a family with you myself. Will you be able to get over your aversion to my title and put me out of my dejected misery and promise to be my viscountess?”

Daisy laughed with joy and threw herself into his arms. “I do believe my father would be able to see the delicious irony of this situation. It would be my greatest pleasure.”

And they sealed their bargain with a ravishing kiss.

  The Duke Conspiracy

Anything is possible with a spying debutante,

  a duke, and a conspiracy.

Miss Rosamund Smythe is finding the Marriage Mart a dead bore. She’d much rather continue working for her father as a spy than endure another minute of the Season. But things take an interesting turn when she overhears details of a plot against her childhood friend and first love. A family feud drove them apart years ago, but he still holds a special place in her heart, and she won’t let anyone hurt him—not now, not ever.

Alexander Milton, the new Duke of Wrentham, has always longed for a simple life. His tumultuous childhood taught him to appreciate peace and quiet above all else. Rose is the antithesis of everything he wants in a proper wife, but her beauty, intelligence, and loyalty call to him. And spending time with her to unravel the plot against him makes him wonder if the simple life he craves might be entirely overrated. Maybe he really does need a little adventure in his life.

But it soon becomes clear that a nefarious conspiracy is afoot—one that puts not only Alex’s freedom in danger, but Rose’s life. Can they overcome all that stands between them? Or will their second chance at love be snuffed out before it can even truly begin?
