Readers seeking further information regarding western violence are advised that practically every western state, county, and community has historical societies, most of them scholarly, groups that publish information on a regularly scheduled basis about events and personalities relating to their regions' or states' historical past.

At least two national monthly magazines, sold on newsstands as well as by subscription, are Western Publications, out of Cave Creek, Arizona; and Wild West operating out of Leesburg, Virginia. Both magazines, while not scholarly, publish some of the best in diverse western history.

Numerous Westerner International organizations (called "Westerner Corrals") also exist around the country. Several publish exceptional historical journals on a regular basis. Examples are the Chicago, Denver, and Los Angeles corrals.

Finally, there are two national associations that regularly publish scholarly "gunfighter" material. They are NOLA (National Association of Outlaws and Lawmen) and WOLA (World Association of Outlaws and Lawmen.) Both are based in the United States, and membership is encouraged.
