“And thank you for taking care of my big brother. God knows he needs it!” She laughed and Lawrence shook his head.
“Whatever,” he grumbled playfully.
They headed inside where all of their family was assembled. Lawrence left to get Mia a drink and Gina and her chatted, catching up with all the advancements in Gina’s illness and how life living with Lawrence had been.
“He’s the worst at picking up his towels, I couldn’t even believe it. Every... single... shower!” The girls laughed together.
Lawrence reappeared with a drink and a smile. He raised his own drink, turning to face the crowd of family members.
“Sorry to hijack our celebration of my amazing sister but I need to say something. I’d like you all to meet Mia, the most amazing, beautiful, selfless woman I’ve ever met. The woman of my dreams, the light of my life.
“Mia, you have changed my life for the better and you were willing to sacrifice so much to make this work, even when I was acting like a total jerk and even when I leave my towels on the floor. I want to do this forever; I want you to be mine forever.”
He got down on one knee in front of Mia, pulling out a blue velvet box. Her heart leaped into her throat. Was he actually proposing?
“Be with me. Forever and always, until the end of our time on earth. Marry me, Mia. Make me the happiest man alive.” His voice was sincere, and nervousness was written all over his face.
“Of course I will!” Mia exclaimed, jumping up and down. She pulled him off his knees and kissed him hard in front of everyone. The room exploded in applause as he placed the diamond ring on her finger and looked at her tenderly.
“You’re mine, Mrs. King. Until the end of time—in sickness and health.”
