Chapter 1
When you’ve seen one underground casino, then you’ve seen them all. They were never as clean or dainty as the legitimate ones. People smoked here without concern for the building’s fire code. Even the walls and ceiling were dark with cigarette tar. Alcohol flowed like water and they didn’t check for ID.
It was a good thing too. I wasn’t carrying any identifying cards or documents on me. I didn’t want anyone to know that I was Edward Anderson, a compulsive gambler who was in massive debt.
Of course, I wasn’t here to gamble. I had done my dance with lady luck and came out without two nickels to rub together. I glanced at the poor fools gambling away their life savings at the poker tables.
Luck was a fickle mistress in any game of chance. That went double when you were playing in an underground casino. There were no laws preventing you from spending your life savings in a single night. There weren’t even any cautionary brochures about gambling addiction in the lobby. Everyone from the dealers to the bartenders were out to squeeze money out of you.
The guys here were smart about it. I’ll give them that much credit. They didn’t try to milk you for all you were worth in one go. Instead, they bled you out slow. You would win a few hands before a string losses claimed everything.
Even with my sunglasses, I never got used to the glitzy looks of legitimate casinos. Something about them always struck me as a phony imitation. That was part of the reason I went underground to less reputable establishments. Something about the raw greed in an underground casino was attractive to me.
I kept my head down and sat at one of the slot machines. I knew that these machines were rigged. Real casinos had to record their payouts to a gambling commission for review. The slot machines here, however, made sure you put in more than they paid out. Nonetheless, I put a token in and pulled the lever. I needed to look like any other zombie at this place.
You see, I wanted to blend into the crowd. I needed to look like every other guy who believed his luck would change with another pull of the lever. I didn’t want any of the casino guards to notice me and find out who I really was.
Well, calling them guards was rather generous. They were muscle for the mob. Yes, this place was run by mobsters. That meant everyone had to obey mob rules or else.
Cheating could cost someone their life if they got caught. Card counting was like writing your own death warrant in this house. If you were lucky, then they would just slice off your hands and pluck your eyes out. Of course, someone always tried to pull a fast one and got killed for it.
I didn’t want that to happen to me.
That was why I was wearing a disguise. My wig and sunglasses kept the guards from paying any attention to me. Nonetheless, I knew I had to keep my cool or risk getting caught.
Now, you might have wondered why a guy like me was going through so much trouble to avoid detection. Well, I wasn’t in good terms in the mob. In fact, they wanted my head.
I always had dreams bigger than my paycheck. That was why I started playing in underground casinos. Sure, the risks were higher but so were the rewards. I had seen so many men and women turn their lives around in a mob casino.
I always told myself that each roll of the dice or draw of the cards would be different. I just had to hold on until I hit a streak of good luck. It helped that the mob casino was willing to loan me money.
Just like that, I fell for the oldest trick in the book. These mob casinos loved to liquor up players with drinks before peddling a loan to them. Gullible idiots like me signed away on the dotted line for these one-sided deals.
You see, the house always won in the end. It was easy to gamble away everything in a casino. That went double in a mob house trying to squeeze every cent out of you.
I never had the self-restraint to cut my losses and head home. Most professional gamblers set themselves a limit and cashed out when the tide turned against them. Unfortunately, I followed my gut rather than my head.
Piece by piece, I lost everything. I had more pride than reason in me to cash out when I had a small profit. Instead, I ended up in debt with the mob. I hadn’t just lost my winnings. I had lost the money the mob had loaned me. Worse, they were charging me interest.
I was over twenty grand in debt with the mob.
I couldn’t believe I had lost half a year’s salary in a matter of hours. I had never felt so defeated in my life.
Now, I was hiding out in one of the mob’s smaller casinos. It was the last place the mob would look for me. It made sense once you thought about it.
What better place to hide from a tiger than in its belly?
A waitress in a way too short skirt stopped by me. “Would you like anything, sir?”
I didn’t want to dip into my emergency funds but I needed to maintain my disguise. With a sigh, I slipped her a bill. “Sure, just a gin and tonic.
Technically, I hadn’t lost everything. My paycheck from work had arrived yesterday and I had immediately cashed it out. I needed it to go into hiding from the mob. The paycheck itself was a small drop in the bucket to what I had to pay off. More importantly, the mob wanted their payment now rather than in ten years.
I knew these mobsters would get their money out me one way or another. I had heard they killed and dissected debtors to harvest their organs. These body parts were sold on the black market to pay for the debt. There was a lot of money in the illegal organ trade. The alternative was to be sold into slavery. I shuddered to think what they would make me do in order pay back their loan.
I had to go on the run. They would kill me if they ever caught me. I bought a cheap wig and a pair of sunglasses to disguise myself.
“Here you go sir,” the waitress said, returning with my drink. “Enjoy!”
I slipped her a small tip and took the drink. She would probably spend it better than I ever could. “Thanks…”
I wondered how long I could hide out from the mob. My hat and sunglasses wouldn’t hold up for much longer. Sooner or later, my disguise would slip up.
As if on cue, one of casino security teams arrived on the scene. They were a trio and I could see the handguns they were packing under their tailored suits. They looked more like mobsters than security. The man leading them was tall and looked to be all business.
One of the subordinates asked their leader. “Gerald, you really think the guy has the nerve to show up back here after we nailed him for twenty grand?”
“His name is Edward Anderson,” the man named Gerald answered. This man seemed to be their leader. Worse, he seemed to have some brains to go with that brawn. “He might be here under a false ID. Tell the bouncers to check for ID.”
The other men nodded. “Yes, sir.”
I knew it was time to leave. However, I d
idn’t want to get up and leave right away. It would look too suspicious.
I glanced around the mob casino. These underground places attracted all kinds of people. I saw everyone from fools trying to make it big to professional gamblers. There was even a transvestite trying to sweet talk a dealer who was not interested in cutting her a deal.
That was when I got an idea. It was wild and potentially stupid. However, I could save myself if I pulled it off.
Paying off the mob was not an option. I barely had the cash to pay the interest. Instead, I needed to disappear.
Forever.
I cashed out of the casino. I hadn’t made any money on the slots. In fact, I had lost a small amount of money on those damn machines. Nonetheless, I went to the motel room I had rented.
On the way there, I stopped by a nearby convenience store. I picked up a few clothes and a case of cosmetics. The cashier didn’t bat an eyelash when she rang up the items.
The mob knew where I lived and would probably stake it out for me. The deadline was today and they knew I wouldn’t be able to pay. Yesterday, they had given me polite reminder that I was supposed to meet them near the city dump to pay back the loan. I knew a trap when I heard one. They could do all kinds of horrible things to me without anyone noticing.
When I got into the motel, I made sure the door was locked. I was paranoid that the mob was tracking me. It never hurt to be safe around people like them.
I went to the bed and began undressing. Piece by piece, I made a pile of clothing on the bed. Once I was fully nude, I went to the tiny motel bathroom to examine my body.
I had always been a bit of an oddball as a boy. I was never tall or sinewy like the other kids. As a man, I could barely grow any body hair. I was the butt of many jokes in high school about it. Now, my lack of body hair was going to be an advantage.
I took out my bag of clothing and cosmetics and placed it on the counter. I pulled out bottles of blush, nail polish, and various other makeup tools. My wig from earlier was of medium length and could look just as good on a woman as it could on a man.
Years ago, I had helped my sister out by applying makeup for her. It was a boring process but I was now glad for the experience. I had do the same but just to myself this time.
I began by taking out a bottle of nail polish and applying it to my nails. A strong nail color was how I identified someone was a woman. Within minutes, the nail polish dried and glistened under the light.
I went on to apply blush to my cheeks. I knew I had to be careful not to overdo it. The right amount of blush could transform you into someone else. I stopped when my cheeks glowed with a subdued red. I wanted to blend in rather than get noticed.
There was also a razor in the bag. Like I said, I wasn’t a hairy guy. Nonetheless, I had a bit of body hair under my armpits and some other places. After applying some shaving cream, I quickly dispatched patches of hair on my arms and legs.
I watched as the hair down went down the drain of the sink. It was like watching pieces of myself disappear. Then again, it was an appropriate image.
Edward had disappeared into the nether.
Erika had taken his place.
Chapter 2
As I finished applying the makeup, I thought about what it would feel like to dress as a woman. I hadn’t given it much thought beyond escaping the mob. I would probably have to live on the run as a woman if I ever wanted to be truly safe.
I had probably lost my job as an account at my firm for being a no-show. However, I couldn’t risk going back there. The mob knew where I worked. Still, I didn’t get too worked about losing my job. It never paid very well and I didn’t mind leaving it behind.
Nonetheless, money was a bit of an issue. I couldn’t run far without funds. I would need to find work which was tricky without any real ID. I had spent quite a bit on clothing and makeup.
I rummaged through the clothes I had bought. I had the bare essentials, including a pair of pantyhose. The discount dress and heels I had bought would do for now. These clothes weren’t exactly sexy but that was what I was going for. I didn’t want anyone to look at me twice, especially a red-blooded man.
I slipped on the pantyhose and felt its texture rasp against my skin. It was especially noticeable around the sensitive skin of my prick. I needed to buy some lingerie to finish the look.
I decided it was time to test my new look. Donning a dress and a pair of heels, I went to a nearby clothing store. I figured that there wasn’t much risk in getting caught at a store. They would think I was a transvestite shopping for clothes. Las Vegas was home to all sorts of people. Nobody cared as long as everyone paid.
The store was home to all kinds of women’s clothing. I saw everything from skirts to coats. There was even a section dedicated to outrageous lingerie and high heel shoes. Las Vegas was no stranger to weird fashion trends. I was more interested in something more mundane.
I walked through the aisles and checked the price tags. Most of the stuff was outside my budget. I needed to save as much money as I could until I found a steady source of income. Thankfully, there were a couple of items on sale.
Keeping my head down, I found a few sets of dresses and lingerie that seemed to be my size. I didn’t want to risk going to the fitting room. I wanted to avoid meeting other people.
Nevertheless, people came to me. “Need any help, ma’am?”
I looked up to see a store clerk smiling at me. Remembering to speak in a softer voice, I told him. “I’m just about finished.”
“Anything else you’re interested in, ma’am?” the man asked, his nametag identifying him as Donny. He didn’t seem to have the slightest suspicion that I was actually a man. My disguise seemed solid enough and my Adam’s apple wasn’t noticeable. Maybe, I could actually pull this off. “We have a lovely mink coat in case you’re interested.”
I giggled. “No, I’m good with these.”
“Let me ring these up,” Donny said, guiding me to a nearby register. It was a real bargain. The man even scanned in his employee discount. “Here’s a little something extra, miss.”
I gave him a bright smile for that. “Thanks! My name’s Erika by the way.”
Taking my haul back to the motel, I thought about the next step of my plan. I still had my skills as an accountant. While I couldn’t practice as a licensed accountant anymore, there were lots of people and businesses looking to avoid paying taxes. I could give them advice under the table for the right fee.
I just needed to put distance between myself and the mob. I didn’t just need to leave Las Vegas. I needed to get the hell out of this hemisphere.
That was easier said than done considering the circumstances. My funds were limited and dwindling by the day. I needed to get enough money to fly myself half way across the world.
I went over my battle plan. I needed to stay in character as Erika while I found a way to make money. It was easy to make a few grand in a week with a place like Las Vegas. However, I was not going anywhere near a casino after how I got into this hole in the first place.
I needed another way to earn a quick buck. Worse, I needed to do it as a woman. One small mistake could land me in the mob’s crosshairs.
I decided to take a shower and brainstorm a few ideas. I had paid for a week’s stay in the motel. I figured I might as well make the most of it.
Showering made me realize how much I had neglected my personal hygiene as a man. I guessed a few days of being on the run had made me ignore my body odor. I was in need of a nice shower.
More importantly, a lady couldn’t go out smelling like a slob. I made sure to use the shampoo and body wash I had bought from earlier. It made me appreciate how smooth and hairless my body was.
When I finished drying off, I took out the new clothing I had purchased. It wasn’t much of a wardrobe but it would get me through the week. I needed to venture out in disguise to buy groceries and find a way to make money.
I figured there were people out there looking to cheat on
their taxes. I could give them a few tips in exchange for a nice fee. Of course, tax evaders tended to hang out in seedy establishments. I could end up crossing paths with the mob again. However, I didn’t have much of a choice. I needed to make enough money to buy a ticket out of here.
I decided to head to a bar in the less than reputable side of Las Vegas. During my years as an accountant, I had learned that some of my peers had indulged in illegal side work. There were a few places in Las Vegas where you could give financial and accounting advice that would normally land you in prison. I never engaged in that kind of business before but now was a good of a time as any to start.
If nothing else, I could buy a couple of drinks and sip away my sorrows.
While Edward could get by with his accounting degree, Erika would need to charm her clients and look presentable. I began by laying out my clothing on the bed. I didn’t need to look stylish and eye-catching. Something sleek and sexy would do just fine.
