"Miss Klusman! I hope you realize you have committed a serious offense!" he cried.

Molly panicked. With everything, she'd forgotten that it was against the law for any woman to have sex before marriage... under any circumstances.

"Never in all my years of policing have I seen-" Greys's raving was cut short by van der Bellen touching his arm.

  "That's enough, Greys."

"Don't you dare touch me! I know all about you!" Greys pulled away from van der Bellen's grip.

  "Greys, I've said that's enough."

Greys relaxed slightly, still shooting looks at van der Bellen and Molly.

"Well, Miss Klusman, this is certainly a perplexing case," van der Bellen mused.

"Am I... going to jail?" Molly half-whispered.

van der Bellen gave her a look that was almost sympathetic. "I should think not; certainly, I would not even dream of sending anyone in your position to jail."

"You would think that, wouldn't you," muttered Greys.

van der Bellen got annoyed. "Greys, I would thank you to keep personal matters out of this and focus on the subject at hand."

He turned back to Molly. "And all of this about Mr. Levitski is true?"

  "Y-yes."

"It can't be true," Greys retorted. "The very idea of all this is ludicrous."

"Greys, do you honestly believe this girl would incriminate herself? Why on earth would she make something like this up? Can you tell me that?" van der Bellen was practically shouting.

"I don't know. But something doesn't add up," Greys mumbled.

"Either way, we have a body and that means something went on," continued van der Bellen. "Miss Klusman, I have no wish to charge you. You may leave."

Molly left before Greys could object anymore, glad to be out of there.

  19. Epilogue

Following the police being called to Villemonte City Orphanage, Molly Klusman and Mr. Anton Levitski were arrested. Molly Klusman was released later that night.

Mr. Anton Levitski remained in custody for several days. Eventually he was released and subsequently cleared of all charges. Accusations of distortion and even destruction of vital evidence were dismissed.

Similarly, tests to discover the identity of the body found in the grounds of the orphanage were apparently inconclusive. However, it is currently buried in Villlemonte Parish Church's cemetery under the headstone Jean-Pierre Richard, beloved and sadly missed friend and father.

After the scandal Mr. and Mrs. Levitski left the orphanage and fell into obscurity. The orphanage is now under the LeRoys, an older, rural couple. There have been no deaths at the orphanage since the LeRoys took over.

Molly Klusman also left the orphanage to marry Constable Emmett van der Bellen, an officer who worked on her case. They are said to be very happy together.
