Avery (Wolf Rage Book 1)

by A. M Martin

To force an empath to bond with a wolf is a death sentence. The wolf and empath need to be evenly matched in power. If not the strongest one of the bond will slowly consume the life force of the weaker one. When he told us that, I felt sick? Isn't that what the Six have been doing? Forcing bonds. Killing empaths and wolves. But Rain was strong enough for it to work. For it not to be a death sentence to him.

You’d think it would have been over then, but no. All that time Rain was waiting for Dean to grow and rightfully claim his seat as the seventh, Rain was bonding with more and more wolves. Creating more and more wolves in the Rage. From that twisted bond Rain created has resulted in wolves now coming into the Rage, bypassing the mating fever.

It was a bloody battle that lasted for almost five years before Dean finally sunk his teeth into Rains throat ending the war.

It took Dean and his closest members of the White pack, four long years to build their society back up from nothing. During that time wolves were going into the Rage instead of the mating fever. Dean realized Rain had succeeded in some way. For now, future generations would never know of the mating fever. Never know of the True mate bond. Forever needing to be bonded to an empath to keep them from the Rage. Rain managed to damage the wolf society even after his death.

Once his pack had stable ground the first thing Dean did was dismantle the Court of Wolves and hunt down everyone in the Rain line. Hoping to stop this from happening ever again.

Dean set laws around Empaths. They were watched for many many years. Then one-day Dean just up and disappeared.

"I couldn’t hold out any longer. The rage was there. Always pressing on me. I finally felt secure enough with what I rebuilt to finally stop that constant battle I had with myself. I came here. To the Blackwell’s land. To your great- great grandfather and let the what Rain created, the Rage take over. But it seems that I was wrong." Dean's hand slips out of mine, and I watch as he walks out into the yard.

Everyone is quiet. Each in their own thoughts. I’ll think about everything later. It’s too much. Too much information. I smile at Kayden, hop off the bar stool and follow Dean. Maybe I can ease some of his guilt and the old wounds his story brought forth.

I smile as I dig my toes into the warm sand. Happy to be soaking up the summer sun while I can. Soon Fall will be here. I can already see it. The leaves are starting to change their colors, and the wind brings a nip with it at night.

I look up across the lake watching the wind ripple the surface water gently. I'm grateful that I snuck off without anyone realizing.

I snort knowing I’m kidding myself. They let me think I snuck off.

I dig my toes deeper in the sand thinking.

They’ve been smothering me. Dean and Kayden. Always by my side never let me be by myself for long. It’s not like their company is terrible or the touches. I feel a blush come to my face. Let’s not think about their touches.

Always being in their company is hard. Especially for someone who’s been by herself for two years. It will take time to get used to it, to them I suppose.

I don’t blame them. We, all three of us seem to just gravitate towards each other and what happened two months ago, only made their wolves want to be that much closer to me.

Something I’m still coming to terms with with. How they can be both, a human and a wolf at once. It’s confusing.

Just thinking about that day still, has my heart pounding with fear. A nasty feeling is slithering over my skin.

To know that guy, Loral isn’t even the one we should be worried about. To know that there is someone above him. That’s just as creepy, is a scary thing to think about. To know there is Six plus their packs that would like more than anything to get their greedy paws on me is nauseating to think about.

Dean said Loral is just the Beta to the Red Paw Alpha, who rules over the Six. Dean gave his history lesson. A much-needed one it seems even the others were surprised to hear most of it. Their history being wrapped in lies.

The Council of Six is not what it used to be. With power comes corruption as Dean put it.

Dean was-is angry and I even feel his guilt about the whole mess. He blames himself that the council turned into something greedy and dishonest because he left because he disbanded the Court of Wolves.

He left and finally let the rage take over not caring an inch of what became of his blood right. I don’t blame him either. It must be tough to hold off the Rage. And knowing it was created by his mother’s Empath must make him feel responsible for all the wolves.

I bit my lip thinking about Rain. That his evil blood runs somewhere in mine. I vaguely remember Nick telling me about Rain when I first came to live with Jeff. I shake my head, digging my toes deeper in the warm sand. It’s weird that Dean killed off any known Rain bloodline and yet here I am. Somewhere, someone missed one, and I’m here, a Rain descendent mated to the one who killed off my ancestors. Fate has a funny way of coming back around and biting you on the bottom.

Is that why I can turn my emotions off. Turn into this cold, twisted thing because of Rain?

I jolt as a body flops down beside me. Dean stretches out on his side. His head propped up on his hand laying down by my feet. I feel a heat rush my body as he curls one long muscular arm around my legs, under my knees. He leans his head up against my leg, those copper eyes taking me in.

"Hi." I smile and watch as his eyes sparkle, and a smile comes across those plump lips.

I feel Kayden dropped down beside me, on the right. His arm is twisting around my waist, fingers slipping up under the edge of my shirt, curling on my belly.

My face flames even redder as I look at him, “Hi."

"Avery." He breathes my name, leaning closer, rubbing his nose across my neck breathing me in.

I squirm, still not used to how they both like to do that. My smell, yes you heard me, my smell somehow makes them feel at ease.

"What are you doing love?" Dean asks softly, his hand moving slowly up and down my leg.

Between him and Kayden, I feel my toes start to curl under the sand. My breathing picks up.

"Thinking,” I mumble looking out at the water.

"About?" Kayden asks his fingers trailing along my side sending cold chills through my body.

  "Leaving tomorrow." I murmur.

Kayden grunts his fingers are stalling. Dean snorts, rolling over on his back, he picks up my legs, putting the left one on his chest, his hand rubbing at my left foot, while the other leg stays on the ground his right hand holding onto my ankle. I feel heat pool in my core, but I try to ignore it.

"There’s nothing to worry about love,” Dean says softly, bringing a moan to my lips as he moves his thumb across a sore spot on the bottom of my foot.

"I know, but we’re going into a den of vipers,” I mumble leaning on Kayden.

They both laugh at that. It makes me smile. They make me smile. I’ve learned so much about each of them and even myself. Dean’s the quiet cocky guy, and Kayden’s the talkative one, full of energy. They both are extremely sweet and just plain unbelievable.

"Everything will be fine. I promise." Kayden says lifting my chin with a finger, looking me in the eyes.

I nod. Shifting in the sand. My lower back has been killing me for two days, and my freaking boobs hurt. I groan knowing my period will be any day now and we’re getting ready to leave. To go to the mountains and the Six. It’s time for the gathering, and my presence is wanted. They’ve sent three formal letters stating so. Letters I tore up and tossed in the trash.

I just want to forget that it’s even here. Forget the Six. But I can’t. I feel Dean’s need to fix everything, and it has become mine and Kayden’s need also. Plus, we need to stop the forced empath bonding. Try to fix the Rage. The only person with enough power would be Dean or me if Rain made this one of his decedents surely can fix it. My gut is telling me that my father’s killer is there too.

I jerk when I feel warm lips on my foot.

&nbs
p; "No more thinking love,” Dean says dragging his nose across my foot and up my leg.

Thinking. It’s hard to stop thinking. Worrying.

Dean places a kiss on the inside of my knee as Kayden nips lightly on my shoulder. My eyes close and I bite my lip. I think I’ll stop thinking now.

  Sneak Peek

  Wolf Rage Book Two

I groan and snuggle closer to the heat on my right. I don't want to wake up yet. I’m too warm and feel safe.

I feel another tickle touch on my nose trailing down to my lips and down my neck.

I shake my head and hear soft laughter.

My eyes pop open, and all I see is dark washed jeans.

I tilt my head back and look into brilliant copper eyes.

"Hey." I smile and turn ten shades of red.

My head is on Dean's lap, and my naughty arm is wrapped around Dean's hard belly underneath his shirt. Gods his skin is so warm and surprisingly soft for a guy. And smooth.

  I slept on Dean. Ooops.

  "We're here," Kayden says softly.

I bit my lip and sat up.

Kayden leans over and pecks a kiss on my check as I rub the sleep from my eyes.

“I slept the whole time?" I mumble smiling a Kayden.

His eyes get this sparkle in them, and he nods his head.

  Well then.

I look out the window of the black jeep Jeff rented for us to drive.

My breath catches in my throat.

  It's a freaking castle. I mean a real castle.

It's old and gothic looking, tall and wide. Those pointing things look to be touching the clouds and with the mountains back in the distance. It's a breathtaking fairytale picture.

We're pulled into a gravel lot with more than a few different types of vehicles. And people.

"It's a castle." I gasp looking wide eyed at Dean and Kayden. "This selection thingy is at a castle. We're staying in a castle."

Wow. This is awesome. Who wouldn't want to spend three months living in a castle?

"Not exactly," Cam says from the front passenger seat.

My smile turns into a frown as I look out the windows again.

There are people everywhere. Some are getting bags out of their cars. There is a couple of guys throwing a football back and forth out to the side on the grass. Two girls walk up those huge stone steps. There are even people eating out side on the terrace.

  I’m confused.

“We’re here just to check in and let the Council know where here,” Cam says looking out his window at the little girl picking wildflowers. His lips are puckered in thought.

“What is it?” Aden’s gruff voice comes from the driver seat.

“She’s an empath,” Cam says softy still watching the little girl.

I shift in my seat looking out at the little girl. She’s maybe eight or nine years old, dressed in a bright green summer dress with white, pink, and purple flowers clutched in her small hands.

“Isn’t she a little young to be here?” I mumble watching the little girl spin in a circle.

  “Yeah, she is,” Cam says.

“Maybe it’s not what we’re thinking.” Nick sleepy filled voice rings out from behind me.

I don’t know what everyone is thinking but for me. I don’t have a very good feeling about this at all. The others said the Council takes empaths and forces em-bonds when the reach age fifteen, but seeing this little girl I can’t help but wonder and worry that they start taking them as soon as their empath abilities start to show.

“Let’s get this over with,” Aden says getting out.

We all follow suit leaving the jeep and following Aden up the stone steps.

“Are you okay?” I ask Dean lacing our fingers together. I felt his sadness in the jeep when we were talking about the little girl.

Dean smiles at me and nods his head, his hand squeeze mine.

I know he’s not okay. I can feel his guilt, but I don’t have a clue how to make him feel better.

“OMG!” A girl screeches making me jump and turn to the left.

“Kayden.” Her red lips bloom into a smile as she struts her way over to us.

I shift on my feet watching as she swings her hips in a too short blue jean shorts and a tank top the shows off her belly.

Her pale blond hair is piled messily on top of her head. Her brown eyes are locked onto Kayden standing to the right of me.

I do not like this girl.

My free hand curls into a fist, my nails biting into my palm as she throws her tan arms around Kayden’s neck.

His green eyes widen as he looks at me and removes her arms from his neck.

That doesn’t stop her; she saddles up to his left side. Wrapping one arm around his and trailing her manicured fingers down his chest.

“It’s been forever.” She purrs leaning into him.

And that’s it. The last straw. I don’t know what it is, but something pushes me forward. Saying her dirty hands should not be anywhere near him.

I snap moving forward, my hand lashes out grabbing her hair and jerking her away from him.

She squeals. Her hands are going to mine in her hair. With more strength then I thought I had, I jerk her back, and she lands on her ass with a thud.

“Mine.” I snarl out and see her own face morph into a snarl. Baring her teeth at me as I do the same to her.

She climbs to her feet, her eyes flashing yellow.

  A laugh busts our tension.

I turn to Cam and Nick who’s both howling with laughter.

“I can’t believe you did that.” Nick laughs hands on his hips.

A red haze clears from my mad, and I can’t believe I did it either.

I give the guys a sheepish smile and move back towards Dean. Not looking at Kayden.

He pissed me off. He should have never let that flea bag touch him.

I feel Kayden come up behind me and when his arms wrap around my middle, I tense looking at Dean with his famous smirk gracing those lush lips.

Kayden lays his scruffy cheek against mine, “I’m sorry. I should have reacted faster.” He whispers in my ear. “She’s just a friend; I haven’t seen in a while.”

A loud gasp has me turning my head back to the girl. Her mouth is open, eyes wide staring at Kayden’s arms around me.

“Breanna, I would like to int
roduce you to Avery. My Mate.” Kayden says never taking his arms from my body.

A sneer forms on Breanna’s face. Her hands curl on her hips.

“Friends. Ha. Don’t let him lie to you. We shared a bed more times than I can count. And it wasn’t for sleeping.” She smiles and turns away going back to her group of friends looking our way.

An ugly feeling bloomed in my belly at her words, and I shrug Kayden’s arms off me moving closer to Dean.

I stand there not really seeing. I know me being upset about this is silly. Hearing Kayden has had a relationship with her has soured me. It’s completely irrational. I had a relationship before I met them. I didn’t except either of them not to have one either. But hearing it come from the girl's mouth its self is un settling. It makes me feel uneasy.

I feel a tug bringing me out of my thoughts.

  “Come on love,” Dean says.

We finish climbing up the stone steps with Kayden trailing behind.

  Sneak Peek

  Igins: Elementum Novel

"Up. Basil get up now." My mom's harsh voice comes from above me, cutting into my sleep followed by her icy cold hands shaking my shoulders.

I let out a groan and turn my head to the right. The bright green numbers on my alarm clock read 1:00 am. I blink my eyes a couple of times. Yep still there. Greeeaaat.

"Basil. Get up and put a pair of shoes on. Now!"

I so do not want to get out of my comfy warm bed, but I should be used to this carp by now. My mom's a little paranoid. As far back as I can remember she does this to me once a week. Rush in here like a crazy person. Gets me up. So, we can practice her so called escape route. Why I have no idea. Like I said she's a little paranoid. What I don't understand is that we've already done this already. It's a weekly thing.
