His Town Page 54

His dazzling blue eyes filled with lust as I wrapped my legs around his waist and pulled at his strong back. My back arched as he reached down and caressed me. His free hand stroked my lips, his finger entered my mouth. I wrapped my tongue around his finger, and then sucked. A lust filled hiss escaped his lips as he moved his mouth down my body. His lips found my wetness as he licked and teased me. I couldn’t control my own body. Electricity shot through my body with every kiss, every lick, every touch. I pulled his head towards mine, unable to take another touch of his tongue.

“Chance!” I cried, as my juices began to overflow, “I want you.”

“Becca.” He slowly entered me, his hardness throbbing inside of me as I begged for more. He kissed me harder as he cupped my ass, pulling my body into his, our rhythm was perfectly in sync as I buried my head into the pillow and moaned.

I had missed this, I had missed him. This was everything I had dreamed about and more. The way he knew my body, the way he made me feel, I had never reached such levels of ecstasy with anyone else. We both let out a breathy moan as we reached climax. We collapsed next to one another. Are legs and arms were intertwined. For the first time I felt that what we had was real.

I wanted to ask him to stay, but I knew that wasn’t a good idea, for either of us. We were finally in a good place again and I didn’t want to let him go. I watched as he got dressed, admiring his strong body. All I wanted was to pull him back into bed and hold him, but I knew Melissa would be home at any moment. She begrudgingly understood my decision to take the job with Chance. She would never understand my decision to sleep with him again, especially after she warned me to keep my distance.

  “I’m home…Becca? You here?”

“Yeah…just a minute.” I yelled from the bedroom. I emerged a moment later, Chance just a few steps behind me, his face slightly red from the embarrassment of us getting caught.

Melissa stood there, stunned. The sight of Chance had caught her off guard. But then her face completely hardened. Mentally I cursed my bad luck.

“Good to see you again Melissa” Chance smirked.

“Um, you too.” She crossed her arms and cocked her head as she stared at us.

“I’m sorry, I really need to get going. Becca, I’ll see you tomorrow at the office?” Chance smiled and I quickly smiled back. He glanced over at Melissa. “I get that you didn’t have the best first impression of me...” He smiled sadly. “…But I’m really not as bad as you think.”

Melissa rolled her eyes as I quickly ushered Chance towards the door and gave him a kiss on the cheek. “I’ll see you tomorrow.” I whispered.

“Sounds good.” He whispered back. “Oh, by the way Becca?” He smirked ever so slightly. “I got your message, and I have taken care of it. We can talk about it tomorrow.”

I felt my face redden and I just wanted to crawl into a hole. He gave Melissa a courteous nod then made his way out the door. There was silence for a moment, until Melissa stomped into the living room without saying a word.

“Melissa wait…” I said as I followed after her.

“Dear God Becca!” She said as she tossed her bag down by the couch. “What were you thinking? I get taking the job, but seriously! Do you think it’s smart to sleep with him? After he hurt you like that!”

“That was all a misunderstanding,” I said defensively, “Besides he’s going through a lot right now. He needs someone. And honestly Melissa I really care about him.”

“He already has two strikes against him. I guess you’re going for a third?” Melissa shook her head. “When will you learn?”

“There’s a reason we keep bumping into each other. There’s a reason I met him in the first place. Of all people…of all things. The plane, the hotel, the restaurant at Jeremy’s party, now this job? It’s fate Melissa.”

Melissa threw her hands in the air and walked towards her room. “It’s your life. I’m gone in two and half weeks. Do what you want.”

The door slammed and I didn’t hear from her for the rest of the evening.

  Chapter Eight

  Chance

I stepped outside of the somewhat cramped apartment and took a deep breath. I could feel the tension mounting between Melissa and I, and rightfully so. She felt I that everything that happened in Vegas with Sara was my fault. She believed I was to blame and I understood that. I needed to prove to her that I was worthy of a relationship with Becca. It was going to take a lot of work, but I knew it was worth it.

The sun had already sunk beneath the tall buildings of the city, casting an orange-grey glow on everything around. I smiled as I thought about the last few hours with Becca. Our relationship, both personal and working, had just crossed a line. A line I was willing to cross, but I had hoped that Becca was comfortable with it as well and would regret everything that had just happened.

My driver was parked across the street, his window partially down, and I could see him reading one of his betting magazines. It was what he did to pass the time while he was waiting for me. I hated to drive in the city, even though I had a car here, I preferred to keep it parked. As I made my way toward the car he looked up and nodded, quickly starting the car and hopping out to get the door. I waved him off. I was more than capable of opening my own car door.

I scanned the street as I approached it, ready to make a quick walk across the street as I noticed another man, sitting in his car, a few down from mine on the opposite of the road. Unlike my driver, he appeared to be focused in my direction and at me. I kept my gaze as I walked closer to the street, his eyes following me. Maybe he’s just a people watcher. I do appear a bit out of place. I hopped into the back of the car and my driver pulled away. I couldn’t take my eyes off of the man in the car. I would have expected him to stop staring at me, but he hadn’t. It was actually the opposite. As my car passed his parked on the street I stared at him through my tinted windows. His arm hanging from the open window, he appeared to be looking directly at me. My eyes met his, even though he couldn’t see me. His face had a familiar look I had seen somewhere before.

I leaned back in my seat and brushed it off. Becca raced through my mind as I remembered the feel of her body in my hands. The memories were more vivid than Vegas. I could still smell her on my skin. I could feel her touching my body. I could smell her hair. I sank deeper into the seats as I closed my eyes and smiled.

The sun had only just risen over the city as I walked into the new hotel. I made my way to the executive floor, enjoying the quiet of the office. I knew in only a few short hours it wouldn’t be as quiet or calm. I scanned through the numbers that had been emailed to me from the Vegas properties and clubs. It was going to be difficult to out perform anything in Vegas, but I knew that this property was going to really change things here for Vaughn Properties.

At nine sharp Becca made her way into the office. A few other staff members had already arrived and started their day and had been able to distract me from thinking about Becca and our night. I tapped my foot nervously as she entered the room, shooting her a brief smile. I felt like a schoolboy with a crush, but it was more than that. Much more than that.

She smiled brightly as she walked toward me. She looked fantastic. Her hair was loose and slightly curled and she was wearing a conservative but formfitting skirt that flattered her figure perfectly.

“Good morning, Mr. Vaughn.” She giggled.

I looked around the room for my father and then back at Becca. “That would be my father you’re referring to,” I chuckled, “Chance, please…even at work.” I smiled back. “…And good morning Becca,”

Becca looked around the room and then whispered to me. “I wanted to thank you for last night,” She paused, her cheeks getting flush, “For, umm you know, taking care of my concerns.”

“I actually should be thanking you for last night. It felt great…” I purposefully hesitated, allowing the last word to hang in the air for a moment as I watched her smile.
“…To be able to talk with someone.”

She bit her bottom lip and then smiled. “Any time.”

“Here, this is for you,” I said, handing her the paper from my desk.

Becca stared at it and tilted her head to the side as she pursed her lips. “I know all of these people. Why are you giving me a list of my past co-workers?”

I got up and joined her on the other side of the desk, looking over her shoulder at the list. The smell of her hair and perfume sent a shock through my body as I gently placed my hand on the small of her back. Touching her drove me crazy. “Because…” I smiled as I looked over her shoulder at the list. “This is your team for the project,”

“Seriously? How? Did you hire them?”

“Don’t worry about the how.” I chuckled. “They still work for Johnson Boone but for this project they will be under your supervision. It’s going to be a lot of work. You said you needed a team, so I felt it made sense to get a team you were familiar with.”

Becca turned and smiled as she looked up at me. “Thank you.” She stood up on her tiptoes and kissed me on the cheek. I wanted to grab her and pull her close. I wanted to take her right there in the office, but I heard the doors close on the elevator just down the hall. Moments later, we were no longer alone.

“Good morning Chance.” Becca and I turned to see Dad standing in the doorway. I hadn’t seen him since he delivered the news the other day. It felt like there was a bad secret between us and I wasn’t sure if I should address it, or let it go. I looked him up and down, expecting him to look more frail or broken, but for now, he looked just as strong and determined as he had before.

“Mr. Vaughn,” Becca replied politely as she smiled at me, acknowledging my remark about calling me by the same name earlier.

“I’ve been downstairs for the last hour looking everything over. This place looks great. I talked to a few of the employees. Great job in finding people that fit this place.” Dad stared at Becca and cleared his throat as he shifted slightly from side to side. “I want to apologize for the other day.”

  “That’s ok,” She replied meekly.

“It’s not. I made a comment that I shouldn’t have, especially without knowing you or your work. I’d like for you both to have dinner with me tonight.” He looked sternly at both of us and continued. “I’ll be heading back to Vegas tomorrow and it would be nice to know what you have planned for this launch.”

“Well…” I paused as I stared at Becca, waiting for a sign from her and then eventually seeing a small nod. “That sounds great.”

  “Wonderful!” He smiled.

Becca stood quietly. A look of nervousness on her face as she broke the silence. “I apologize, I need to get going. I’ve got a ton of work to do and I have a few meetings this morning.” Becca turned toward me and looked me in the eyes. We both smiled at each other, apparent we wanted to kiss goodbye, but the presence of my father destroyed the opportunity. “See you tonight.” Becca smiled again and then made her way to the elevator.

“So, you are sleeping together?” He smirked at me.

“Seriously?” I quickly barked back at him. “I don’t think that’s any your business.”

“So you are? Are you going out or…” Dad shook his head as he looked down at the floor. “…or is it just sex?”

“I’m not doing this with you.” Regardless of the situation, Dad always had a way to continue to push me until he got the answer he wanted. Today that wasn’t going to happen.

“What you had with Sara was more than that, wasn’t it? You need that Chance. You need stability. You need to be focused. ”

I clenched my jaw as I listened to him rant about Sara and my life. Everything that he wanted for me. I thought about my feelings the other night. I thought about doing as he wanted just to make him happy while I could. I wanted to understand exactly why he wanted me to end up with Sara so much. I bit me lip as I contemplated my words. “Do you care so much whether I’m with Sara or someone else? What is it? Ever since I told you we broke up, that I was done. You didn’t even care when I told you how possessive she was. You didn’t seem to flinch when I told you how it was her that was going through money like water. Why? Tell me!” I could feel myself coming unraveling as I stared at him.

Dad eased himself onto the corner of the desk and crossed his arms as he stared at me. He slowly rubbed his chin, then back of his neck as his gaze went right through me. He didn’t say a word. He only stared silently. He took a short breath, as if he were about to unload on me, but didn’t. “I’ll see you at dinner tonight.” He said and the got up and left the room.

What the fuck was that about? Clearly there was more to this than I knew.

  Chapter Nine

  Becca

I paced through out my apartment, stopping every few minutes to stare at myself in the mirror. Everything needed to be perfect, especially tonight. I was incredibly anxious for the dinner tonight with Chance and Howard. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I needed to be prepared for anything.

The white wine provided a welcome haze to the end of a busy day and provided just enough of a fog to calm my nerves. I smiled at myself in the mirror as I smoothed out my little black dress and black heels. My platinum necklace caught the light perfectly and was an excellent accessory to my fairly conservative outfit for the evening.

Normally Melissa would have been around to double check everything and make sure I looked perfect, up to her standards, but she still wasn’t talking to me beyond the grunt, smirk or asking me for something. Our relationship was tense for no real reason. My relationship with Chance was my business. I had hoped she would have been happy for me.

I picked up my phone and tapped through a few of the messages from the day. We had a few more responses to our invitations that went out for the opening. Today the team had knocked out so much more than I could have ever imagined. I was incredibly grateful for their help and dedication to the project, regardless of how they ended up becoming my team. I really wanted to know the details, but I was didn’t want to distract anyone with any sort of drama that may have come with it.

As of this evening we had confirmed at least ten high profile celebrities and business moguls would be coming to the club opening. Two of the top DJ’s in the country happen to have open dates that weekend, and the extra money Chance had given us to throw at them didn’t hurt either. Things were coming together nicely and I was excited to share the news with both Chance and Howard. I had hoped they would both be pleased.

Howard seemed to run hot and cold, at least in the couple of times I had seen him. He didn’t say much, but one minute he was polite and the next he was over the top. I couldn’t imagine working with him every day under these circumstances.

I sipped my wine as I peered out of the window toward the street while I waited for my ride. Police cars zipped down the street and stopped just down the block from the apartment. It wasn’t a common scene, but it wasn’t uncommon either. I wondered what all the commotion was about as I tired to peer through the branches of the trees that lined the street and obscured my view. As I step side to side, trying to create a view for myself, I noticed Chance’s black town car pull up out front. I took the final swig of my wine, grabbed my black clutch and headed downstairs to meet my boss and date for the evening. The temporary break in my nervous returned.

I carefully made my way down to the car as I peered down the street, watching the commotion. A woman stood on the sidewalk talking to a policeman, pointing at the back of a police car and the motioning in my direction.

“You look gorgeous!” Chances voice echoed throughout the street as he stood just outside of the car, the door opened. “It’s going to be impossible to keep my attention on anything work related with you by my side.”

“You’d better try. I have to impress you and your father this evening.

I slide into the car with Chance, knowing I had everything on the line tonight.

  Chance an
d I arrived at the restaurant first. I was thankful that I would have time to have one more glass of wine to calm my nerves and practice my speech before Howard arrived. Chance chuckled as he watched me nervously play with my hands, twist my hair and tap my foot. I quickly took a few sips of wine as we stood in the bar, waiting for Howard.

“You’ll be fine Becca. I promise.” Chance put his arm around me and kissed me softly on the forehead as he continued to reassure me of how perfect things would go.

I cautiously pulled away from Chance, nervous that Howard would walk in at any moment. I loved the way it felt to be wrapped in Chance’s arm, but the stigma of being something more to Chance in front of Howard bothered me. Especially after hearing his repeated requests for Chance to hire someone else.

Chance spotted Howard from across the room and I prayed that Howard didn’t see the kiss and me escaping from Chance’s hold. He smiled widely as we greeted each other and were then shown to a table in the back of the restaurant.

“You look lovely this evening Becca. You too, Chance.” Howard chuckled. He barely seemed like the stern man I had seen earlier in the day. I hope you don’t mind, but when I made the reservations this morning I went ahead and had the chef set the menu for us. I hope you’re hungry.” He laughed as we settled ourselves at the table and an awkward quietness overtook us before jumped right into business. “So, how’s the planning going?”

  “Well Mr. Vaughn–”

  “Howard, please.” He quipped quickly.

“I’m sorry, Howard,” I continued, “I believe you will both be pleased.” I unloaded the details I had been running through my mind since the early afternoon and I watched as he nodded with a small smile on his face, Chance doing the same.” My nervousness subsided as dinner arrived I continued providing them the details of everything we had planned and confirmed. I felt confident and sure of everything I had accomplished for them.
