“Do what? Vampires don’t have an afterlife, unless… Oh fuck, no.”
“A demon? Grim reaper? What Ambrose? You aren’t telling me something.”
Ambrose took off once more. My head flung back against the headrest. If we went any faster, an imprint of my head could found in the headrest.
“My wife’s mother was a…she was The Grim Reaper’s daughter.”
“You allowed me to marry the grandson of the Grim Reaper?”
“My understanding was, evil was abolished within their family. Generations parted from the underworld.”
“I am here to tell you it lives on through Brock. He is the new Grim. Braelynn, I don’t know about. She almost died when mustard powder floated in her face.”
“What? You keep secrets from me. And to boot, one so fucking important.”
“Maybe, we wouldn’t be in this situation if you’d told the truth from the fucking beginning.” I sighed as he whipped the car into the parking lot of the club. “Who is the woman, her female lover?”
“What the hell are you talking about?”
“Everyone knows, Braelynn gagged on sausage and prefers milking the noobs and carpet munching.”
“Now, Divana, you’re just fucking picking a fight.”
The sunlight disappeared. Black clouds blew in from the west. Ambrose froze. He sensed something, but I wasn’t positive it was what I sensed. A powerful wizard from the underworld stirred up the mess coming at us. Lightning strikes flashed down and bounced back up. We were in trouble.
A female emerged from the black, smoky fog. Her long, blonde hair illuminated amongst the darkness. Two red flashes from her eyes opening shined out. I struggled to see any other key factors about the woman. “Madeline?”
“Yes, my dearest Ambrose.”
“What are you doing here?” Ambrose acted weird by rubbing his palms down his shirt and jeans. Sweat beads formed on his forehead.
“I have come home to collect my family. It is time you rejoin me in the underworld. Brock has assumed the role of Grim Reaper from his grandfather. Braelynn is needed to restore the attitude and conjuring of others to the dark side.”
“We…”
“My family has always been dark, Amby. Even the kids had hidden tendencies you were oblivious to,” the long-haired demon stated. She stepped out of the dark to allow just enough of the street light to shine on her. A beautiful woman who had Ambrose melting like hot lava chocolate in her hand. “Did you ever wonder why our children’s pet died so abruptly?”
“Yes, but I was hoping.” Ambrose dropped his head as the truth finally trickled out. His perception of his children destroyed.
“I must return to prepare for the ultimate sacrifice. The virgin vampire’s marriage and conception from a special newbie vampire. Our daughter is the perfect virgin. While on Earth, she refrained from having sexual intercourse with a man for this specific reason. After years of hunting the perfect partner, she alerted me of her recent capture. I must vet him along with preparing the feast. Ambrose, you don’t want to miss your only daughter’s wedding and the birth of our first grandchild.” She raised her hand and motioned with her forefinger for him to join her. “Oh, and the witch needs to be removed from the equation once and for all.”
Lightning bolts whizzed past Ambrose’s head. They headed straight for my chest. From deep down within me, an energy built up. I raised my hand and watched in awe as green boomerang bolts flew out of my hand. A mid-air collision took place before my eyes.
“Ah. A powerful witch, she is. I don’t have time to destroy you, right now. Ambrose, kill her,” Madeline ordered. “All of this is for your precious baby girl’s marriage and our grandchild.”
She disappeared leaving me with Ambrose. I dropped my guard momentarily. Ambrose turned around. He shook violently. One eye glowed red. The other an icy blue. The poor man fought a battle between good and evil within his body.
“We must save him.” Ambrose uttered out. Did he mean himself or Maddox? “No, her lover now belongs to Braelynn just as our soul belongs to Madeline. Destiny has set a course and shall not be altered.”
I turned to run toward the car. Ambrose beat me with his demonic-vampric speed. The pungent smell radiating from his body smelt of a mixture of Pepe la Pew’s cologne and rotten flesh being burnt with a hint of brimstone. “I cannot allow this to happen.”
“I know,” Ambrose stated. “I am fighting with the demon inside of me to save you and Maddox. All I ask is for time, but trust your instincts on when the demon has full control.”
“How will I know?”
“Trust me, you will know. I will no longer have my eyes, and my nails will be claws painted all black. When you see these things all together, run like hell. Kiddo, I loved you like one of my own. Tonight, will be the last time you see me. The bar is yours if you want it. It is in my will.”
“Ambrose,” I sobbed.
“Bitch, I will kill you.” Ambrose’s arm raised up. Claws grew out of the tips of his fingers. He reminded me of that guy who killed on Elm Street. I checked his other hand. Normal. A sigh of relief exited my mouth while I glanced to his face. One red eye. One blue eye. The fight was still on, and I had a small sliver of a chance canceling a wedding. Best prize of all, Maddox. His keys jingled in his pocket.
With the inner fight going strong, I fumbled my way in his pocket and retrieved them. A crooked smile emerged from Ambrose’s face. I hoped he would forgive me for this. I raised up my knee. The force brought him down to his knees. It gave me just enough time to get in the car and start it up. He joined me before I sped away.
“Ambrose, where are we heading too?”
“You’re driving,” he responded.
“Address please,” I demanded.
“One Popping Cherry Lane.”
“Got it,” I typed in the address into my phone’s gps. Yeah, this was an address Braelynn would live at. Sick bitch.
The map took us to a long, paved driveway in the middle of nowhere. I wouldn’t have been surprised to see mirage appear. With a slow turn of the wheel, we started down Popping Cherry Lane. Ambrose chuckled. It sounded evil. Out of the corner of my eye, I witnessed his arm move up and behind my head. I slammed on the brakes. He flew forward. His arm retreated.
Once he showed me his two hands and eyes, I continued to drive up the path. A huge house appeared. Braelynn raced out the front door.
“Daddy, what…why in the hell did you bring the witch to me?” she screamed out the question. I pulled right up to where she stood.
“When is the wedding?”
“Daddy, the wedding is…”
“Honey, what is this about a wedding? You haven’t even proposed to me, yet?” a gorgeous woman strutted up behind Braelynn.
“Carleigh, you’ve been used. A pawn in our little game. Thank you for finding the perfect mate for my little girl and the father of my first grandchild.”
“Baby, it’s not what…”
“Then what the fuck is it, Brae?”
Their fighting allowed the perfect distraction to take place. I slithered out of the car to sneak in the house. Creeping up the stairs, I overheard others speaking. Wailing sounds indicated someone cried.
“Stop your crying over spilt milk. We have all been pawns in their evil game. You think Carleigh was that naïve?”
I channeled my energy to finding Maddox. He was weak. My wrist throbbed out in pain. A burning sensation started on my shins. In order to save him, I needed a safe place to transfer all my energy to him, heal him if I could, and most importantly keep him alive until I found him.
The curtain from a nearby window floated out of it. I sprinted toward it and hopped through the open window. Once my ass hit the floor, a man appeared with a butler’s uniform on. My mouth went dry.
“Are you here to save us from them?”
“Yes, but first I need to be in a safe room to help out one before he dies.”
“Follow me,” he said. “I’m Abe. We are go
ing to my room where you can do what you’ve got to do to save us all. I am here to help.”
“Help me save you. Good one.”
Abe’s aura read of one that wasn’t human, but I didn’t care right now. No evil presented itself within him. He opened a door to a room where another gentleman hung from the ceiling. “Don’t mind my pet. Please don’t tell anyone. The bitches believe I am straight and love their torturous sexual activities.”
“He looks like he’s in pain.”
“No. He is getting excited about sex with me tonight. I snuck him in a few months ago. Sex has been great. Carleigh’s bisexual so we are all needed to keep her satisfied. Thank goodness, Braelynn isn’t a switch hitter.”
“No, she’s playing a game with everyone. Someone here will marry her,” I explained. I knew it was the best way to detour him.
“What? Shit, how can I help you? No man needs to be married to that nasty, evil witch.”
“I am offended by that comment.”
“Okay, nasty witch.”
“You’re not helping your cause. I am a witch.”
“Shit, my bad. She is still nasty evil,” Abe covered his ass.
“Yes, because she’s a demonic vampire. Now, keep an eye out while I search for and help someone.”
“How are you going…”
“Just fucking go before I transform you into a woman,” I interjected while I grabbed his crotch and squeezed. He nodded. When I let go, he raced out the door, shutting it behind him.
I spotted a corner in the back where I’d be blocked by the hanging whatever you called him; well, at least at a quick glance I’d be hidden. Racing to the corner, I bypassed the hanging toy. My gut told me something was wrong. The lemony taste returned to my mouth. I crunched down into a fetal position, wrapped my arms around my legs, and placed my head on my knees.
My energy left my body and traveled to his. A sickening lemon taste took over my mouth. My lips were forced open until the muscles felt stuck in that position. Burning pains in my legs came from warm sunlight. Confusion settled in.
The door before us slammed open. Braelynn appeared along with Ambrose. Red liquid pooled around both of their lips. Ambrose held up Carleigh’s head. It had been sliced clean through. “She is no longer alive to save you, Maddox.” Running her fingernail across his cheek to get his full attention, she continued speaking. “I have good news for you,”
Maddox tried to lift his head, but between his weakness and my energy fighting against it he didn’t succeed.
“Boy, if you love Divana do as…”
“I am not fucking Divana.”
“Braelynn, no one asked you to fuck Divana. I am supposed to kill her, so with a bounty on her head we can use that to our advantage. Nothing revives a dead man more than the threats against the woman he loves.”
A forceful jerk overpowered my strength. Maddox’s head jolted up. We stared at the two of them. “Awe, daddy. You were right.”
“Of course, I was right. Many years ago, that was me in his position. Only difference, I wasn’t in love with a witch. I only had eyes for your mother.”
“Such a sickening, sweet love story,” Braelynn taunted.
“If you want him alive, you need to have your personal slave rid the room of mustard powder or we all could be dead.”
“I am immune. You are the one susceptible to the powder. Well, you and my future husband.” Braelynn started to stroke Maddox’s manhood. Jealousy reared its ugly head. I jerked our bodies backward. We hit the wall with an impressive force. She flew in the opposite direction when the Earth beneath us shook.
Ambrose dropped the prize possession. The head rolled over to us. A beautiful, young female gone too soon. I concentrated my energy on getting him out of the metal chains holding him to the wall. Removing the fucking lemon from his mouth was a must. If I never ate lemon flavored food again, it would be too soon. Not only did it taste nasty, but it also left a nasty after taste.
Braelynn lunged toward Maddox’s midsection. One forceful punch, I broke his right arm free from the heavy, iron restraints. His fist landed a punch to her upper cheek. Her body switched directions as if she was a rag doll. A sense of pride fell upon me.
“That was awesome, Ma Belle.”
“It was, wasn’t it? Got to watch out for that right hook.”
“Remind me never to piss you off and duck left.”
“I love you and am proud, but fucking get this ball gag from my mouth.”
“Reach up and snatch it out.”
“I love you.”
“Ma Belle, I love you with every fiber of my being.”
“Ahhhhhhhh! Yes, that nasty taste is gone.”
“Hell yes, baby. I thank you for that too. No lemon for a long time in anything we do.”
“I take it lemonade is…”
Pain struck me. It ended our conversation. Our connection broken. No, it couldn’t be. I jumped up, raced out of the room knocking Abe down in the process, and headed to where I thought the dungeon was. A long corridor with tasteless art hanging on the wall led me to an open door. The wall and floor appeared to be made from stone and concrete.
I followed the winding staircase until I hit dirt. Another body lay on the floor by the door. Yellow powder lined the threshold. Without hesitation, I entered the door. Ambrose’s body stood over Maddox. Black claws hung from his fingers. The man I perceived as a father had lost his battle with the demon. Love made you loyal to a fault. His love for his family allowed the evil side of him to win.
“Ambrose,” I screamed. “Either way, you cannot kill him.”
“The hell I can’t,” the monster answered.
“Your baby girl needs a husband,” I reminded him. I pointed to her body lying on the dirt floor. “Did you know Maddox saved her life?”
“You lie, witch.”
“You think so?”
“All witches lie.”
“Let’s test your theory, demon.” I knew if he drank her blood it would have a slight underlining taste of me; enough to perk his interest in the truth.
“Dad, she is telling the truth.” I whirled around to see Brock standing in the doorway. “Take a taste of Brae’s blood.”
Ambrose walked over, knelt, picked up Braelynn’s wrist, and bit. “Witch’s blood.”
“Exactly,” I touted. “The only way she had my blood was because of Maddox saving her life. Somehow the powder got to her.”
“Before her power sank in, she was just a normal vampire. We tested her to the fullest to make sure she had it in her to be evil.”
“Let them go, son.”
“Divana, you get the pass this one time. Make sure I don’t see you for a long, long time.”
“Thanks.” I hoisted up Maddox. He used my body as a crutch. Together we walked out of the dungeon, up the steps, and out of the house. A fight amongst the family members began. Dark clouds rolled in. We headed for the car, but he stopped me.
The weak vampire mustered up enough power to lift me up and kiss me deep and passionate. “Ma Belle, I owe you my life. You are stuck with me forever.”
“Fine by me as long as I get bitten during sexual intercourse.”
“That will happen. Have you ever had your clit bit and sucked by a vampire?”
“No, but that sounds fucking sexy. I think you just gave me female wood.” A poke in my midsection notified me to his arousal. “Let’s get you home and fed.”
“Ma Belle, the only thing I want to eat is your kitty.”
“Once we get home, you can eat until you’re full.”
“Sweet nectar overload. More bang for your blood. Hell to the yes.”
The gentleman he was opened the door for me. We left One Popping Cherry Lane and never looked back.
