It was better to love and lose than to never love at all. Maybe it was too soon to call this love. But right now she couldn't think of another reason why the two of them couldn't take the chance and see if it truly was meant to be.
The Story Continues…

Author Notes and Acknowledgments
Author Notes:
As of this writing, there is no Cutler Inn in Rehoboth Beach. The same is true with the Disciples of the Divine cult.
There is an actual store on Coastal Highway in Rehoboth Beach called Beef Jerky Outlet. According to their website, they offer over 100 different types of jerkies. Since I’m not a fan of any kind of jerky, I haven’t visited the store myself personally. Its location was a good choice for Foster to stop for information, so I created a fictional store description, including who the owner of the establishment may be. If the actual owner(s) of that business happen to read this, please accept my humble apology—no slight was intended.
The 134th Fighter Squadron are known as the “Green Mountain Boys.” They are indeed part of the Vermont Air National Guard 158th Fighter Wing that is stationed at the Burlington Air National Guard Base in Burlington, Vermont. As I was writing this, they were supposed to receive F-35s in September 2019 (the same month this book was released), so I wrote it as such in the story. But as I neared completing this novel, I found out the F-35 delivery date had been pushed into early 2020. I opted to not to change this part of the story. In other words, the “Green Mountain Boys” got their promised fighter jets a bit sooner in my book than they did in the real world.
In 2014, one of the early F-35s experienced engine failure where “pieces of the failed rotor arm cut through the engine's fan case” and eventually out “through the aircraft's upper fuselage.” The problem has since been fixed, but I thought it would serve as a reasonable explanation in this story for Captain Vasquez’s fighter suffering mechanical failure.
Special thanks to:
To my wife, my two children, and my mom. Thank you for everything you do and who you are. I love you.
To my editors, Pat, Jen, and Wendy. Your efforts to whip my manuscript into even better shape is often overlooked but always appreciated by me.
To my fellow indie authors Tom Abrahams, Tyler “T.W.” Piperbrook, Sam Sisavath, and Steve Konkoly. Thanks for your continued encouragement and suggestions about the Air Force, F-35s, and piloting in general. This book became even stronger with your help and I really appreciate it.
Last but not least, to my current and new readers. I hope you enjoyed “Wretched Retribution.” If so, please take a few moments to leave a review where you purchased this novella. As a self-published author, every honest review helps other people know about my books and inspires me to keep writing them.
