“It’ll be fine.” I looked at the time and saw I was already ten minutes late getting over to Tucker’s. “Just come in the backyard when you get here.”
I hung up the phone and tossed it on the counter.
It had been two weeks since Tucker had taken me to The Peak with my epic wardrobe malfunction and we ended up in his bed.
Since then we had taken turns figuring out which bed we liked better. Right now my bed was winning, but in all honesty it didn’t matter where we were as long as we were there together.
I grabbed the steaming hot pan of mac and cheese and headed over to Tucker’s.
He had thought it would be a good idea to have a little get together and I told him that sounded good as long as it wasn’t like the rager house party he had thrown before.
I walked out my front door and instantly bellowed for Tucker.
Right there in my driveway were three cars that did not belong to me.
Tucker walked around from the back of his house with a huge smile on his face. “Babe.”
“You seriously had your friends park in my driveway?” I was slightly ticked.
“Just trying to recreate the first time we met, babe.”
I rolled my eyes and stomped down the steps. “They better be moved by morning or I’m going to call the police.” My annoyance lasted two seconds till I got close enough to Tucker. He grabbed the hot pan from me and pressed a kiss to my lips.
“Just tell your mom to park in my driveway and we’ll be even,” he whispered.
“You do know I’m totally going to do that, right? Mama didn’t raise no fool.”
“I didn’t have a doubt that you wouldn’t. Have I also mentioned I’m excited to meet your mom? First on my list of things to talk about are the Girl Scouts.” He wiggled his eyebrows and pressed another kiss to my lips.
I rolled my eyes and planted my hand on his chest. I pushed him away and flipped him the bird. “You’re opening a can of worms if you go there, Tucker. She could talk to you all night about the Girl Scouts.”
“I just wanted to hear her side of the whole LeAnne story.”
“You don’t believe my side of the story?” I huffed.
He smiled and shook his head. “I believe it, I just want to hear the story again.” Tucker strolled back into the backyard and I sent off a quick text to my mom to tell her to park in Tucker’s driveway and to not mention the Girl Scouts.
Though I knew Tucker was going to bring it up anyway. I strolled into the backyard and was glad to see a completely different site from the last time I had wandered into Tucker’s backyard.
“There you are!” Grace waved excitedly at me from the lawn chair she was sprawled out in.
“Hey! You’re really showing now.” I sat down in the chair next to her and smiled. “Good thing you told your hubby when you did.”
Grace rolled her eyes. “Brad would have just thought I was getting fat,” she laughed. “Plus, I’m about a month further along than I first thought I was.”
“So you’re two months?”
She nodded her head. “Yup.”
“Which means Brad only has about seven months to man up,” Nick teased. He was sitting on one side of the picnic table with Bev next to him.
“Hey, I have totally manned up,” Brad insisted.
“Right,” Tucker drawled. He set the pan in the middle of the table and tossed the hot pads by the grill. “That wasn’t you on my porch a couple of weeks ago offering to house sit for me while I went out to dinner.”
Brad’s cheeks heated and he flipped off Tucker. “I thought we were friends,” he grumbled.
“We are,” Tucker laughed. “Which means I get to call you on your shit.”
Brad stood in front of Grace and held out his hand to her. She place her hand in his and he hauled her out of the chair and right into his arms. “I may have been a bone head for a few seconds, but I’ve got it all figured out now.”
Grace ran her fingers down his cheek and smiled. “You sure do, baby.”
Nick made a gagging noise and Bev elbowed him in the stomach. “Could you not be a dick for two point five seconds?”
“What?” he gasped. “They’re all mushy and shit.”
“Take notes, buttwipe. That’s gonna be us someday.”
Nick’s face paled and he hung his head. “Is that your way of telling me you’re pregnant?”
Bev rolled her eyes. “No, Nick. I just means someday when I tell you, I'm sure you’re going to freak out even more than Brad did.”
Nick didn’t argue because I’m sure Bev was right.
“Nova,” Tucker called. “You wanna help me bring the rest of the food out?”
I followed Tucker into the house wondering what else needed to come out. The picnic table was filled to the edges with all sorts of food. Tucker had enough food to feed at least twenty people when there was only eight of us.
He held open the sliding door and I slipped past him into the house. “What do you need me t-.”
Tucker cut me off when he grabbed me by the arm and spun me into his arms. “I missed you,” he said simply.
“You saw me this morning,” I reminded him. I draped my arms on his shoulders and smiled. “You don’t remember what we did in the shower?”
He leaned down and pressed a hot, searing kiss on my lips. “Oh, I remember it alright, babe. That’s why I needed you to come in here so I could get my hands on you.”
“My mom is going to be here any minute, Tucker.” I stoked my fingers through his beard and sighed.
“My friends can entertain her.” He fingered the strap of my tank top and tugged it down. He pressed a kiss to my shoulder and I tipped my head to the side to give him better access.
“Can you believe you’ve only lived here for over a month?” I asked wistfully.
Tucker pressed kisses over my neck and whispered in my ear, “But what a month it’s been.”
I buried my fingers in his hair and sighed into his touch.
I may have thought Tucker was a complete asshole when I first met him, but oh how I had been wrong. A month ago I was worried about who my neighbors were and did my best to stay away from them.
Now I couldn’t keep my hands off of Tucker and was actually invited to the party now.
“I thought you were worried about your mom coming over?” he mumbled against me skin.
I tugged his head back and my eyes locked with his. “Two minutes won’t matter, and you were the one who said your friends can entertain her, right?”
“Definitely right, babe.”
I had a good thing going with Tucker, and I knew my mom would understand me being trapped in the kitchen for him for a few minutes.
After all, mama didn’t raise no fool.
