Voice of a Crimson Angel [Part I]_Persecution Page 15

“With the units we already have, plus us, we can convert them quickly,” Zaneta said. She sounded strangely excited. “This can work!”

Kenny’s eyes flickered. “I do enjoy your enthusiasm. What is your name, miss?”

  “Zaneta. Zaneta Marconi.”

She stood from her seat as Kenny approached her. The machine stood almost a full two feet over her. The two of them shook hands.

“Glad to have you with us, Kenny.”

“I think we can all agree that this is a sound plan that can be up and running within a few months. All in favor?”

Everybody cheered as Julissa stood there with her arms crossed. These machines had played a huge part in the downfall of her country. Their creation the fruit of greed, their duty to help a sentence of suffering for millions. Perhaps they’re making up for it by serving now. She accepted that the prospect of hope dwarfed her skepticism. They had freed one prisoner, and, in turn, had gained uncountable allies. Julissa smirked. You thought we’d forget, Chancellor. Never.

Voice of a Crimson Angel Part II: Poison

Under the leadership of Julissa Marconi, the Crimson Angels have finally arrived to put the Expansion to an end. The recently freed Joseph Halsey is eager to pick up where he left off and quickly garners worldwide attention for the resistance movement. Chancellor Venloran, however, is far from done. Commanding his elite soldiers to spare none in their path, the UNR prepares to deal the Crimson Angels a devastating blow. Facing endless escalation and the endangering of innocent lives, Halsey and Julissa must decide just how much they would be willing to do to win the war. A preview of Part II is up next!

  July 10, 2051 – Mexico City, Mexico

Together, we can put a tyrant in his place. Divided, we will let entire nations fall. The Crimson Angels refuse to stand idle. Will held onto the pillar as the warm night air passed by. Up here, the wind howled as it went. The room he was in had once been a large suite, but now the only thing that remained was whatever had been bolted down. The entire place was at a slant, and the windows were long

gone except for a few shards. The oven was ready to fall, and all the kitchen cabinets were all wide open, their contents now two hundred feet down.

The view was what Will imagined drove men mad. The skyline had been blackened, and many of the buildings were sagging or outright crooked and about to keel over on top of another. The sight of man’s works laid to waste were not capable of frightening the cyborg. The words of his enemy were what shook him to the core.

Our mission is not over until the Chancellor concedes and steps down from his position. We will never recognize his authority! The Wolf was infallible in battle, and yet Captain Halsey had eluded him so far. He’d initially thought of Halsey as a mere thorn in the side of a great beast. Now he wasn’t so sure. That ‘thorn’ had successfully done what no human had ever accomplished. Moreover, he was now fighting an enemy from his own country. The rumors had been running around since Cuencamé, but now they were a reality. What could have led to that? Will wanted to assume cowardice, but here was alone. When he was all by his lonesome, other considerations entered his head.

Is something amiss back home? His home was the UNR Headquarters, and he lived in the same country as the civilians he protected. It was strange for him to realize he had no recollection of walking the streets with anybody, going to a park, or even asking a citizen how they felt. What would I see if I did? That’s what frightened the super soldier. Behind the veneer of a smile, a citizen could plot against the men and women who fought for their country’s security. Will knew what had to be done.

I will find you, Halsey. I cannot allow you to mislead others to their doom.
