Zero Foxes Given Page 14

by Nix Whittaker

Frowning, she asked, “What war club?” Haku shoved away from the drawer and held up a carved stick with a large, round end. There were intricate drawings painted in red.

  “Is that it?”

He nodded and finally found his words, “It came through the gallery a week ago. I knew it had magic, so I took it home. I would do some research on it.”

Kiera glanced at the door where she could just see the strap of her bag and then turned back to Haku. “I’ll help you get her back.”

He frowned and asked, “I thought you were leaving.” So much for her sneaking out. He must have noticed the bag.

“I won’t leave you to deal with this by yourself.”

His voice broke as he said, “Thank you.”

“Do you know how to get hold of them? How do we get her back?”

“I don’t know. Maybe they will…” His jaw jumped as he struggled with words.

  “I’ll stay,” Kiera said.
