“It’s okay,” Theo said. “I understand. Sorta.”

“Is it safe?” a voice asked. Max stuck his Mattigan mop into the room.

“Max!” Maddie cried. “How long have you been spying?”

“Let’s just say your version of Lecture Mode leaves something to be desired.”

  POSTSCRIPT

  Ghost

And that, dear readers, is how Motel Mattigan got its fourth guest. Quite extraordinary, isn’t it, that ghosts aren’t actually ghosts?

On the other hand, a question: Are there things that aren’t ghosts that actually are?

Let me put it another way: If it’s not there, but it haunts you — isn’t it a ghost?

  Teachable Moment, no?

  Discuss among yourselves.

And, while you’re at it, I suppose I ought to get started reeling in the next Mattigan adventure. It’s quite a doozy because, believe it or not, things are going to get even hairier for Maddie, Max, and Theo.

Meanwhile, here’s something to keep in mind: It doesn’t matter whether you fill your bedroom with five-foot-tall gummy bears or tombstones — as long as the hole in your closet is big enough for monsters to climb through.

  Sincerely,

  Your pal

  About Mysterious Monsters

Mysterious Monsters is a humorous six-book early chapter book series full of mystery and adventure. When Marcus Mattigan, star of the popular show “Monstrous Lies with Marcus Mattigan” offers to let his kids, Maddie, Max, and Theo, travel around the country with him as he exposes frauds and fakes, the trio manages to find and capture the world’s most mysterious and elusive creatures — and then to hide them in their increasingly crowded basement. As you can imagine, with each book, the situation gets more and more hairy.
