by Maggie Walsh
“Always, sir,” Wade replied.
Savage made his way down the stairs and reached Gill just as a young man with a bow tie and suspenders began to play the keyboards singing “Perfect” by Pink.
Leaning down, Savage kissed his mate’s cheek, asking, “Are you ready to go home?”
Gill smiled up at Savage nodding, then asked, “Can we dance one more time before we go?”
“Of course, fated one,” Savage replied, helping his mate to the dance floor and taking him in his arms.
Feeling Gill hug him close, Savage felt everything in him go quiet and calm. No thinking about people trying to bring war to his home. No Senator trying to kill his boys. Right now in this moment there was nothing but peace and contentment filling Savage’s heart and soul.
“I love you, Russell,” Gill whispered then looked into Savage’s eyes.
Savage felt his breath catch at the look his lover was giving him at this moment. A love so great showed in his mate’s eyes, it damn near brought Savage to his knees. “I wish there was a word that was even greater than love that I could say to you at this moment, because what I feel every time I hold you in my arms, make love to you, or even just stand in the same room with you, is so much more than just love. I’ve waited so long to find my soul, and fate made my wait worth it. I love you, fated one.”
Gill sniffled as his eyes grew misty. Savage could tell his mate was trying hard not to cry and was failing. Finally he gulped once, then twice, saying, “Let’s go home.”
Savage led Gill to his friends for them to say their goodbyes amid promises to call, then Savage walked his mate out of the club. They collected Gill’s computer and Savage made a portal to home.
* * * *
Gill didn’t even remember removing his clothes and honestly, with the way his mate was kissing and sucking on his chest and nipples, he really didn’t feel the need to question it. Damn, Russell’s mouth should be registered as a lethal weapon, because dang if he didn’t feel like he was about to die from pleasure. Russell knew how to make Gill feel special and loved.
Russell raised his body, holding himself up by his arms, and looked down at Gill. The marvel on the man’s face had Gill cupping Russell’s cheek, asking, “Are you alright, Russell?”
Gill watched his mate swallow, then nod as if unable to speak.
There was something in Russell’s eyes that made Gill become concerned. “What is it? What’s wrong?”
Shaking his head, Russell replied, “I would die if anything ever happened to you, fated one. Even if for some reason fate would decree I live, I would choose to die. I never want to know another day or night without you in it.” Gill scooted up as Russell rolled to his back and covered his face with his arm. “Fuck, all I want to do is make love to you all night.”
“Russell, we have our entire lives to enjoy each other’s bodies. If something’s wrong…” Gill stopped talking when understanding came to him. “It’s about that group my father is involved with, isn’t it?”
Russell removed his arm from over his face and looked at Gill. “Yeah. The council thinks that this group your father is involved in is planning a war. They think we need to start training more of the pixies, elves, and other paranormals as soldiers in case they attack.”
Nodding, Gill replied, “It makes sense. Better to have it and not need it, then to need it and not have it.”
“They want to do those trainings here… on our island. They think there might be spies in Crystal and Maddox and therefore they need a training location that no one can get to or know about,” Russell explained.
“What do you think?” Gill asked, quietly.
Russell sat up, pulling Gill between his legs with Gill’s back to his chest, then held him tight. “I think the humans already have their army and are already in training and have been for quite some time. I believe that they have been watching us and learning our weaknesses. I think if we aren’t prepared many of us will die.”
“Then it seems to me you don’t have much of a choice,” Gill replied.
Russell turned Gill around so fast, he let out a yelp. “I will not have you harmed. I don’t know these men they want to send here. I promised you peace and love. I promised that this was our quiet, safe place. This is our home. If I bring strangers… I…”
Gill lightly pressed his lips to his mate’s, then pulled back saying, “Stop. This is our home and I will be perfectly safe. I have you, Grey and the others. Nothing is going to happen to me, Russell. You would never allow it. You told me the north part of the island is more or less empty territory. You could set up the training facility there and that would mean our home would be far enough away for us to still have our privacy. You set some rules about trespassing in other areas… heck, you can make whatever rules you want. This is your island, Russell. They either toe the line, or they are sent packing.”
Russell just kept looking at Gill not saying anything. Gill rolled his eyes, saying, “Russell, my father does not hang with many people who aren’t loaded with cash. That means whoever this Defiance group is, has to be financially solvent, and with money comes power. My dad would always tell me that if you had enough money, you could make anything happen and no one would be any the wiser. I don’t want anything to happen to my friends and the people I consider my family. If something was to happen and I knew we could have possibly done something to stop it, I could never live with that.”
Russell lifted Gill higher and kissed the hell out of him, then whispered, “I’m going to make love to you, talk to Grey and the others, then if they give me the go ahead, I’ll call Destrain and let him know it’s a go… as long as I set the rules and they follow them.”
Smiling, Gill replied, “Savage Island, training center for paranormal soldiers and home to the man I will love forever.”
Epilogue
Savage flew over his island.
He had left Gill satiated and sleeping in their bed. After speaking with the other islanders, Savage had picked up his phone and called Destrain. The man had sounded relieved and agreed to Savage’s terms. However, after hanging up, Savage felt a need to fly over his island and look at its beauty before strangers came and invaded his space.
It seemed that he was about to go to war once more. However, this time it was to fight for the life of his people. This time… it was personal.
“Russell, where are you?” Gill asked, his voice chiming inside his head.
“You were resting so well I thought I would go flying for a while,” Savage replied, also using their mating link.
Gill quickly said, “Oh, okay. Then I guess I’ll take my shower alone. Although I was hoping you might be here to wash my back.”
Picturing his mate naked and wet had Savage landing, shifting and opening a portal right into their suite, saying, “There is no way in hell I’m missing that.”
Gill giggled, giving Savage an impish look. “I didn’t think so.”

ABOUT CREE STORM
I was born in Fort Knox, Kentucky. I’m a military brat that travelled a bit overseas and throughout many parts of the United States. I finally settled in Las Cruces, New Mexico, where I eventually got married and then divorced. I was blessed with two fantastic sons. As they grew up and became young men chasing their dreams, I felt that maybe now was the time for me to do the same. That’s when I started writing. Never in a million years did I expect to meet the most wonderful man in the world, move to Quebec, Canada, and get married. However, that is exactly what happened. JP has introduced me to things like; canoeing, snowmobiling, four wheeling, and has taken me to some of the most beautiful locations. Ones that I had only ever seen on a computer or read about in books. I may miss my mountains and my boys, but have discovered that when you work towards your dreams, the future can be one filled with happiness and love. My boys are only a plane ride away, and Skype is a glorious thing. So I say, on to my next adventure…don’t be shocked to find it in one of my books.
