“Nah, the bitch is riding with me.” He chuckled and grabbed my arm. “Hold on tight, puta, I’d hate to see that pretty skull splattered on the pavement before I get a chance to fuck you.”

Chavo dragged me to his motorcycle and the other guy held me until he got it moving. The van started to follow behind us and we were already moving before I ever saw a sign of the police. We weren’t moving very fast yet, but we were gaining speed. The sound of the sirens got weaker. I could feel the wind on my face and it was blowing my hair around since they didn’t even bother to give me a helmet. Chavo grabbed my arm and started pushing my hand down towards his crotch. I felt sick to my stomach, more so than I already felt as I realized what he expected me to do.

“You rub that while I ride. Get me nice and hard so I’m ready for you when we get to the warehouse.” He laughed.

I had to do something. Death would be a welcome end to my life if I was going to be a piece of meat that the bastards traded around until they were done with me. I held my hand inches from his crotch and then wrapped my other arm around him as tightly as I could, latching onto his leather vest. I rolled back on the seat and kicked the handlebars of the motorcycle. It started to weave and slowed down a little bit. Chavo let go of the arm he was holding to regain control and I kicked the handlebars again. The motorcycle started turning to the side, right towards one of the other members. I let go of Chavo and pushed in the opposite direction. The crash was inevitable, just like the pavement beneath me. I took it on my shoulder, feeling the road tear my flesh apart as I rolled. My head hit, but I had rolled enough that I wasn’t knocked unconscious. I looked back and saw Chavo’s motorcycle on the ground with two others. The van came to a screeching halt as the club was forced to stop. My blood was all over the pavement but I was alive.

“Somebody kill that bitch!” Chavo stood up, holding his face, and his arm was nearly ripped to pieces, gushing blood down his vest.

The doors on the van opened and as a couple of them tried to get out, I saw Jedrek tackle one to the ground. He ripped the gun out of the guy’s hand before he could react and fired at at the other. He jumped back up on the van and shot the driver before running over to me. Bullets started to hit the pavement all around me and I realized we were both about to die. At least it would be a quick death, versus the torment in store for us at the hands of the MC. Suddenly, I heard something else—sirens. I could hear them again. They got louder and then the bullets stopped coming at us. I heard a torrent of gunfire as Jedrek leaned against me and covered me with his body. The bullets finally stopped and I forced my eyes open.

“I... lo—” Jedrek couldn’t finish his sentence because blood started pouring from his mouth and he slumped against me.

“No, Jedrek! No!” I was too weak to move his weight and the blood loss I suffered finally caught up with me as I lost consciousness.

  Chapter 20: Thorne

Robby had taken a bullet to his stomach and he was dying. Quintin took one to the ribs, but it was a clean shot that came out the other side, so he was not in immediate danger. Angelina and the regulars at the club helped, although some of them were in too much shock to do much. I started barking orders like I was in an emergency room, getting one person to hold pressure on Robby’s stomach while I quickly made sure Quintin had no internal damage. My head was bleeding, but I couldn’t focus on it. I was fairly certain I had a concussion, but it wasn’t bad enough to keep me from working. Once I had the situation inside stabilized, I ran outside where I saw a horror show. There were members of the security team down all around the entrance. I turned back towards the door and saw tears running down Angelina’s face.

“Oh my god.” She ran over to one of them. “No, please god, no! Can you help them?”

“I’m sorry, Angelina. There’s nothing I can do out here.” I could hear sirens getting closer and engines going the opposite direction. “We have to go after Savannah and Jedrek.”

“You’ll just end up dead like these guys.” Tears flooded down her face.

I ran back inside and police cars showed up in droves. They weren’t what I needed. I needed ambulances. I kept checking on Robby and his situation was getting worse by the minute. I grabbed my hair and practically tore it out of my skull, feeling tears stream down my face. The police burst through the door with their guns drawn on us. The locals immediately stood up and threw their hands in the air. I rose slowly and then one of the police tilted his head and narrowed his eyes.

“Dr. Hot?” I looked down at the ground. “Get the paramedics, quick! What happened here?”

“It was group of bikers, they shot my friends and they took two more of my friends with them when they left. They headed east on Chesapeake. Please, go after them!” I clamped my hands together in front of my chest.

“Yeah, okay, but we need to get your head looked at. That cut looks bad.” He grabbed his radio and started firing off instructions.

“I need a paramedic here! Here, damn it! Those guys are dead!” I ran to the door of the club and motioned as the ambulance arrived.

“We got units going after the guys who did this, and we’ll get choppers in the air, but I don’t know if we’ll make it in time. When they hit a place like this, usually have a warehouse nearby or somewhere to hide the bikes.” He grabbed his radio. “Wait, repeat that.”

“What is it?” I tried to listen to the codes and make sense of them.

“Officers down! You and you—stay here. The rest of you with me!” He motioned for the police officers that were taking statements to follow him and ordered a couple to stay behind.

“We have to go.” I grabbed Angelina’s arm and spoke in a whisper. “You know Jedrek’s history. If they run his name, they’ll ask a lot of questions he probably isn’t in any position to answer.”

“Let’s go. There’s a back door.” She motioned for me to follow and we cut to the back of the crowd and disappeared. “You sure you’re okay? You need to get that cut looked at. It’s still bleeding.”

“Yeah, I’ll be fine.” I rubbed my head and saw that my hand was covered in blood. “You should probably drive, though.”

We drove down Chesapeake, staying behind the police. As we rolled up a hill, I saw mass carnage. There were police officers on the ground, Hispanic guys in leather vests bleeding on the pavement, and motorcycles on fire. The van was sitting in the middle of the road and it was covered in bullet holes. I looked around as we approached, but we didn’t get far before a police officer put up his hand. I tried to quickly explain that we had friends in there, but before I could say much, I saw Savannah on a stretcher. There was blood everywhere and they were rushing her towards the ambulance.

“Wait, there she is—find Jedrek.” I pushed the door open and ran towards the road block.

“Stop!” The police officer ran towards me.

“You either shoot me or get the fuck out of my way.” I snarled as I pushed the roadblock down and ran towards Savannah.

I guess having my face plastered everywhere in New York was good for something, because the officer stood down. I got to the ambulance as they were loading Savannah inside. She looked like she was in pretty bad shape and had a neck-brace on. There was blood everywhere, her head had a gash that was almost as bad as mine, and her arm appeared to be broken and it was already wrapped in a splint. Other police officers came over, but when they recognized me, they didn’t interfere. I climbed into the ambulance and squeezed Savannah’s hand. The paramedics started attending her as I sat by her side, praying that she would wake up. After several agonizing minutes, they had stopped the bleeding coming from her skull. The paramedics slammed the doors and started driving towards the hospital.

“She’s stable. Dr. Hot, let me look at your head.” One of the paramedics scooted over. “Oh man, this is fucked. You better call a plastic surgeon.”

“Fuck it.” I shrugged him off. “Stitch me up or give me a needle and I’ll do it myself.”

  “We’ll be at the hospita
l soon.” His words echoed and I realized I was losing too much blood.

“WHERE AM I?” I SAT up in bed suddenly, trying to blink my vision back to normal.

“You’re fine. We got you all fixed up. They even called in a plastic surgeon so that beautiful face of yours won’t be too ugly for television.” I heard a woman’s voice speaking calmly and turned my head to see a nurse next to my bed. “Big fan, by the way.”

“I was brought in with a woman. Is she okay?” I reached out and grabbed the nurse’s arm. “Her name is Savannah.”

“Oh yeah, everyone’s asking questions about that pretty girl that came in with Dr. Hot. She’s definitely in worse shape than you, but they’re working on her.” She nodded and smiled.

“I want to see her.” I threw the covers off and tried to sit up, but my head spun.

“You have a concussion. You don’t need to get up just yet. Relax, I’ll have someone check on her.” The nurse patted my arm and walked towards the door.

“Wait, there were others, too. Two guys from Club Infinite Fantasy and a guy named Jedrek that would have been brought in at the same time as Savannah.” I tried to lean up in my bed again. “Please check on all of them.”

  Chapter 21: Savannah

They say your life flashes before you right before you die. I knew that to be a fact. In fact, it flashed before me a few times before I felt myself slip into the nether. The nether was interesting. People were there that I didn’t know, people I remembered from my past, and they all seemed to be floating in that same darkness with me. I was fully aware that we were all dead, but there was no bright white light or great beyond. It was just darkness and emptiness for so long. I didn’t feel like I aged. I didn’t feel anything except empty space around me. As I looked around more, I realized something was missing. Nowhere in the nether was Jedrek, Robby, or Mr. Stone. I knew Thorne wouldn’t be there. He took a hit to the head, but it wasn’t enough to kill him. The rest of them should have been there with me, but they weren’t. That was when I decided to come back. I just told myself that I wasn’t dying and the next thing I knew, my eyes opened.

“We’ve got her! Get the blood transfusion going!” It was a doctor’s voice—I hoped.

AFTER I SAW THE LIGHTS above my table, I slipped in and out of consciousness for what felt like a long time. I didn’t see the nether and I dreamed when I was out. I was standing on green grass in front of a large white house. There was a motorcycle parked out front next to a Rolls Royce, and I was vaguely aware that old beat up car next to them belonged to Robby, but I didn’t know why I knew that. I walked into the house and I just instantly knew Mr. Stone was at work. He had a new job. I should have been at work, too—no. I couldn’t work. I looked down at my stomach and saw a baby bump protruding past my t-shirt. I was on maternity leave and the baby was due any second. Our baby. It belonged to all of us. It wasn’t real, though. It was as empty the nether. I was dreaming. I told myself it was time to wake up, and the next thing I knew, my eyes opened again.

“Savannah?” It was Mr. Stone’s voice.

“Mr. Stone...” I extended my hand.

“Call me Quintin, jeez.” He took my hand and squeezed it. “Everyone’s okay. Me, Jedrek, Robby and Thorne.”

“I know.” I forced my eyes to open. “None of you were there with me, so I knew you were still here—I knew you would be waiting on me.”

“I don’t know if I should hug you or find a spot that isn’t covered in road rash to start beating.” He had tears in his eyes when I rolled to my right. “What the hell were you thinking? Jedrek told me what you did.”

“I knew what was coming if I didn’t act. I chose death with the small hope that Jedrek would make it out alive. I figured the road would kill me. It was better than what they had planned.” I blinked away a tear. “How long have been out?”

“Almost a week.” He looked towards the door. “Thorne, she’s awake.”

“Awake-awake, or just fucked up on drugs awake?” Thorne walked into the room and I instantly recognized his sexy voice.

“No, it’s her. Not the drugs this time. You’re hilarious on drugs, by the way.” Quintin forced a weak smile.

“Oh thank god.” Thorne walked over and put his hand on my leg. “Are we going to start yelling at her now, or wait?”

“We’ll wait.” Quintin chuckled. “Maybe give her five or six minutes to fully wake up.”

“How bad are the others?” I looked back and forth between them.

“Robby and Jedrek are stable. They both have internal injuries that required surgery. They’ll be in bed for a while—like you.” Quintin motioned to the arm he wasn’t holding. “That arm is probably never going to be the same.”

“What’s an arm? I’m sure you’ll all take care of anything I need.” I smiled and chuckled, but it made my head hurt. “Ow...”

“Okay, I’ll get the nurse. You need more pain medication.” Thorne pulled his hand away and quickly walked towards the door.

“Jedrek was just about to tell me he loved me.” I looked over at Quintin.

“We’ve all said that—many times this week.” He squeezed my hand again.

The nurse came in and I started to feel like I was floating. I wasn’t upset or scared. The world was going to be there for me when I woke up again. The four men that were the pieces of my journey had suffered, but we were going to be okay on the other side of forever. I just had to recover and spend every last day I had on earth making sure they knew how much I appreciated them. They were the only reason I came back from the nether. If I hadn’t felt their absence, I would have floated there forever with people I knew and those that I didn’t. I had everything I needed. My journey was complete, but it was only truly beginning.
