… or you may fall in love.

  Epilogue

"Well, that was amusing." Demeter gazed at the tiny, crystal pyramid floating above her palm. She strummed her fingers through the variegated color beams emanating as it rotated. A melody sprang forth and then abruptly stopped before the prism descended and disappeared into the flesh of her palm.

"Amusing for whom," a voice, sounding a bit disgruntled, griped from behind her.

"Oh stop your grumbling, Moros. Did you really think I was going to let you have her? She carries my legacy, be aware," Daedalus warned as he flashed Moros a smug look.

  Moros sneered.

"And there was no way in the universe I would allow you to recapture my darling little Protogio. I have better plans for it than to watch it crumble at the feet of those barbarians your mother, Nyx, sired." Demeter added.

"You forget that I am also from her loins, Demeter."

"Ah yes, and be glad I took pity on you for it."

"Is it why you have condemned me to live only in mortal flesh, Demeter?"

"It is to keep your devious nature in check. After all, I can’t have you running about the universe casting doom wherever you wish."

"So what do you plan to do with them now, Demeter?" Daedalus asked. His mighty wings spread from his shoulder blades and shimmered a bright cyan blue. He flapped them gracefully a few times, as he stretched his muscular form, and then folded them back into his body.

"My little progenies deserve a time of peace. I think I will let them rest for awhile and enjoy some progression."

"Oh please let me stay with them. I so love the Protogians!" Eros exclaimed, clasping his hands and bouncing up and down.

Demeter looked at the sprite and shook her head. "Ah yes, Eros. You did make a pretty little sum on that silly little poem of yours did you not?"

Eros’ face alighted. "Our little Kati was quite generous."

Moros flapped his hand near his ear. "Damn annoying buzz."

"Another mortal womb calls you Moros?" Demeter sighed. "I suppose doom will always be part of the universe. I had so hoped we would enjoy a bit of reprieve before you were called to disrupt harmony again."

"Why, Demeter? Why must I suffer so? Do I not deserve the immortality that the rest of you enjoy?" Moros slashed a hand through the air. "I grow weary of living in the flesh and dying again and again. It is not very pleasant I’ll have you know."

"Had you turned from your mother’s deeds, Moros, you would have been spared, but instead you followed her." She paused and drew her cape in a sweeping motion as she twirled. A powder of glittering, silvery, cosmic dust swirled around her. "Did you think I would let you bring second Earth’s devastating technology to my first Earth. Protogio is my purest of planets and I wish for her to remain so."

  "But the Edict…"

"You are a fool, Moros. Have you not realized that Nyx altered the Edict? Protogio was never yours to take."

  Moros frowned at her.

"Now off with you, and be born flesh again. Perhaps this time you will redeem yourself. But be warned, we will be watching."

Demeter opened her palm again to release the pyramid spectrum. She directed it to the ground and waved her hand over it. Musical sounds rang forth and blazing colors appeared to form a large cone-shaped configuration.

"Remember, the best is yet to come." Moros begrudgingly stepped into the beam of light and was gone.

"Don’t you just love happy endings?" Eratos crooned and batted his lashes.

"Indeed I do. Indeed I do my lovesick little friend." Demeter caressed Eratos’ cheek. "Come now, the dream shifters are bending the stars again. We have much work to do."

Demeter waved her hand through the spectrum , the Origins stepped through the temporal fold and vanished.
