Ring of Madness Page 20

by Royden Labrosse

Shit! Why couldn't I have kept quiet! In the dark, there was a vampire laugh. And the laughter of those creatures is bad for me. Soft and slippery like silk underwear, it flew over my skin, making the hairs on the back of my head stand up.

  - Where did Danielle find you, young lady?

  - That's how you address yourself," I approved. - Strictly speaking, I'm the one who found him. - I shrugged my shoulders and walked toward the bus without much concern for vampires. They'll take care of themselves. Even with coffins, even with mushrooms. Grown-ups are uncles. - Didn't he tell you? When did he call you the second time?

I was beating at random, but I hit the spot. I thought about it the other day when I couldn't find my phone in the room. Why would a vampire want to hide it? Just so I wouldn't see anything there. And what could I see? Just a call log. Numbers? It wasn't a big deal, the vampire was gonna fly anyway. What else is there? The number of calls when they rang, how many minutes they spoke...

  - He didn't go into detail.

The voice of the vampire has become very different. Lower and quieter. With this voice, you only ask out and seduce virgins. That whispering in the dark teased and enveloped me from all sides. I was eating. I wonder if the vampire himself knows how it works on me. Something told me that he did. He does. And he enjoys it. It's worth depriving him of that pleasure.

  - Then I won't either. He'll tell you.

I shut up and looked more closely at my feet. It wasn't enough to swallow my nose in front of all the people. Even if it was the people of the night. The vampire shut up, too. It's for the best, too. Otherwise, we'd be in a great fight right now. Frost, you know, it's not good for the mood. Waiting in the cold isn't either.

I got off the bus without a mistake. I saw Daniel's silhouette behind the windshield and waved at him. Daniel waved back at me. A dark shadow slipped past me. I rushed to the vampire in a hurry. Hell knows what their intentions are. But I won't let them hurt Daniel! Maybe this Mieczysław will think that we should rip off a friend's head first so that he doesn't serve as an apple of discord! Or maybe it's not Miecislav at all. But where was I supposed to go after a vampire. When I flew into the salon, Danielle was already shaking his hand. He was facing me, but Mecislav was blocking me with himself, and I decided not to make any noise.

  - ...to see you, Mecislav! - I heard a fragment of the phrase.

  - I'm glad you're safe and sound, too.

  - I have to tell you everything in detail right now. Everything that happened here!

  - I agree. As soon as we get out of here. It's dangerous to stay here.

  - You've always known better about this.

  - Were you glad you could put everything on my shoulders?

For this question, I wanted to rip off Mecislav's head. Is he a friend there or not, but who gave him the right to say nasty things to my friend?! The intonation of the question was clearly mocking. Danielle put his head down. Chestnut hair covered his face with a thick canopy.

  - You know I don't look like you.

  - This is your problem...

  - I'd be so proud if I were him," I twisted.

Mieczysław's back is tense. Barely noticeable, but still. I don't know what he would say next, but then Danielle noticed me.

  - Jane! You two know each other already?

  - We were not officially introduced," I answered.

  - Will my performance be official enough?

Danielle was smiling. He knew me very well. And when did he just do that? But sometimes I thought we'd known each other for a year. I smiled at him too. Mecislav never turned around.

  - So, I'd like you to meet Jane, this is Miecislav. Miecislav, this is Jane.

The vampire turned in one fraction of a movement, and I took my breath away. In the dark, I barely saw him. Okay, blurry silhouette. And now... Now I was watching and I couldn't take my eyes off him. He was handsome. Incredibly handsome. But it wasn't the beauty that mannequins or Barbie dolls are famous for. Although he could advertise any product. All the way to the briquettes of manure. Women would take it apart just for the pleasure of looking at a pretty face. His face wasn't just as pretty as Andre's, not sweet as Lenca di Caprio's, but completely. It was as if someone had set out to create a sculpture of the perfect man. A high forehead, a short straight nose, gracefully molded cheekbones, firmly outlined sensual full lips, a little more full than necessary, but it did not spoil him. The stubborn chin hinted at a habit of command. Huge bright green, like meadow grass in June, his eyes were hiding under the thick and curved arrows of black lashes. Thin eyebrows were rising surprisingly to the temples. Only a surprised look gave Daniel that. It made the beauty of Mieczysław slightly wrong - and irresistible. And yet his face was not the face of a boy or a young man. It was a young-looking, but a man. irresistible in his charm and charming in his calm. The strands of black like tar hair lay on his shoulders, shining and sparkling in a scant yellow light. The vampire's skin was strangely golden, almost copper, as if it had been sunbathing on the beach for a long time. Does that happen, though? His skin was so honey-colored, thick... And I suddenly felt like walking on it with my fingers. First I wanted to slide my fingers under his clothes and then I wanted to slide my tongue under his skin. Soak up his scent. I never felt anything like it just standing next to a man. A vampire smelled like exotic flowers and honey for some reason. And I was horrified to lick his skin to see if it tasted like honey...

Jane! Wake up! You're looking into his eyes!

I flinched like I was ripped out of a sweet dream. Both vampires were looking at me. Mecislav - with boredom, Danielle - was surprise, suffering and... hopelessness interfering in his eyes? What's going on?

  - What are you thinking, Jane girl?

In the voice of Mieczysław there were dreary notes. I guess I'm used to everyone throwing themselves at him! What the hell! I had a friendly sorrow. I was starting to have an unseasonable relapse into "Katrine syndrome". It was particularly acute.

  - I thought that if your looks matched your sexual experience, your mistresses were very lucky. Unless you prefer boys or animals, of course.

There was a funny laugh somewhere behind me.

Now there was a whole different expression in the eyes of vampires. Mecislav was so dumbfounded that I cracked his head with a log. Good idea, by the way! Shall we go to the woods to keep it at hand? Take the fashion, damn it, with your eyes frowning! You can't go out soon! The light grey eyes of Daniel shone with joy. He clearly liked my answer. I liked it, too, by the way.

  - Chief, you seem to have been rejected," said a cheerful voice behind me.

I bounced off the bus entrance. And the first to get in was the heavy one, even if it looked like a coffin. The second was a vampire in his twenties who carried him on his shoulder without even bothering.

There was anger bursting in the green eyes.

  - Yes, I was definitely rejected, Vadim, -Mechislav suddenly agreed peacefully. - It's nice that at least someone can do it.

  - Always happy to give you such pleasure," I mumbled. - Just ask me.

There was a funny smile on the face of the vampire who came in.

  - Hi! What are you, a surname?

  - No! - I belligerently answered. - I was just with Daniel.

  - And I flew in with the chief, the vampire was looking at me without conscience. He had wheat hair and bright blue eyes. It was just like Andre's. But this vampire's face was more... more human and imperfect. And I liked him a lot more. - My name is Vadim. Give me five!

Well, that's the type of person I've been in contact with. We've got one in three of these people at uni! I don't think Vadim is as simple as playing around, but why not accept his game? I slammed on the outstretched arm.

  - Jane. Boo. I know.

In translation from student to Russian - we'll know each other.

  - Boo," agreed Vadim. - And even Bea. Where should I put the coffins?

  - And right into the salon," Danielle shrugged his shoulders.

>   He played with his fingers on the switches, opened the back door, and two vampires started bringing coffins into the salon. There were four coffins in total, all looking exactly the same. Simple, rectangular, not too high, covered with black matter. I wonder if there wasn't enough money for oak boxes? But I didn't watch the loading for long. I turned to Daniel and punched him on the shoulder. Not too hard. So that I could feel and feel it.

  - And what do you allow yourself?! You could have warned me about your buddy!

  - Sorry, - Danielle put my hand to my lips and kissed me. - I wanted to see how you reacted. And then, it wasn't so hard to resist Andre. Mecislav is much stronger.

  - Mechislav. His parents definitely missed a Baby name. You should have called him Likoslav or Krasoslav," I said offended.

  - Come on, Jane, don't be sarcastic. I said I was sorry!

  - Just for you, I shrugged my shoulders. - But ask your friend not to make any more of these jokes! He is not my type.

Mecislav was clearly stunned. I wonder if hypnosis really works on everyone. Or did no one just tell him that? It's quite possible. I'm the one who's so crazy, I feel uncomfortable seeing too beautiful people, and everyone else has to go crazy. If he also has a figure that fits... Although it's almost impossible to see anything under his cape. He is not much lower than Daniel, but Daniel has a figure like a man who has never played sports - skinny, but without strong muscles. And Mieczysław? It would be interesting to come up and take off his coat. Just to see... Jane! Again! Calm down at once! Breathe in, exhale and think that it's winter outside the bus windows, and you're freezing.

  Therapy has worked.

An ice wave swept from the tips of the wet feet across the body, kicking the remnants of vampire charm out of the brains.

  - What the hell is this! - I was outraged as I raised my head and met the gaze of dark green eyes. - Again and again! Mecislav, I can't constantly cope with your antics! Or is it already involuntary for you? Are you used to compost everyone's brains, how to breathe? You don't have the American Blue Party on you!

The vampire didn't even think to put his eyes down. Or at least embarrassed. Where's it going? Absolute peace of mind!

  - You feel the magic pretty good, Jane. Vadim, are you ready?

  - That's right, Chief! Borya! Where are you?

Another vampire jumped on the bus. He was half my head taller. Tough, dark-haired, with a nice but not particularly memorable face. Only dark brown eyes were memorable. Big and radiant. Just like a happy child... What? Again?!

  - Did you open a sexy Olympiad today? - I woke up. - What, they don't even give milk to cows without frowning? Either you're stopping all this, or I'm going home on my own!

  - Boris, - Mechislav uttered the vampire's name calmly, but the dark-haired one blinked immediately and lowered his eyes, expressing remorse in every way.

  - I'm sorry, Chief.

  - And don't do this to her again.

Mecislav did not add anything like "okay? " or "do you understand?! ». He didn't threaten. Even his tone hasn't changed. Smooth and calm. And his face is the perfect mask of absolute peace. But the vampires were definitely afraid of him. A real boss.

  - We'll have breakfast now and go. We brought canned blood with us, but it won't last long.

  - Have breakfast. I'll turn my back.

  - And how do you communicate with Daniel so squeamishly? - Mecislav didn't give up trying to feel me. Well, at least he didn't touch me, and that's bread.

  - Daniel," I stressed the vampire's name, "I'm okay with it. - He's not a vampire. No looks, no sex. And I don't care about his cooking habits.

  - What, you couldn't wash them? - by Vadim's indignant voice.

  - Maybe we should decorate them with parsley too. - Danielle snapped at me. - What was it, it was a hauler!

  - You really could have cleaned them," said Mieczysław.

Danielle didn't say anything. But now I'm not silent anymore.

  - If you don't like it, don't eat it.

Mecislav turned to me. My knees were shaking again, and a warm wave was running all over my body. What's wrong with me?!

  - Jane, would you like to share your blood with me?

The voice of Mieczysław was enveloped. Meschislav was mesmerized. He was bewitching. And those incredible green eyes. And his smell... his body... his taste...

Leoverenskaya, wake up, you bastard! How long will it last?! I can't take that long!

Fear itself was transformed into aggression, and aggression into rudeness.

  - I also missed sharing blood with a coffin fang gigolo! - I called it in.

I guess I shouldn't have. The next second, Mecislav's fingers closed on my chin and turned my face up.

  - Don't forget, girl!

I ripped a holy water gun from behind my belt, but a vampire hit my arm hard. The gun went off to the side.

  - You want to kill me, Jane?

The green eyes were leaning closer and closer to me. And I suddenly did something that no one expected me to do. I didn't expect you to. I pulled myself even higher and touched a vampire's lips first. The kiss came out light and almost chaste. A simple touch of the lips. But even from the feeling of his body so close, so close, I got dizzy. And not just my head. My stomach felt like it was flaming, and my sweater looked too rough and tight in my chest. I had to cling to a vampire's shoulders to resist his suddenly weakened legs. Our bodies shifted. Mecislav leaned even closer to me. I think he was going to give me a real kiss, but I pulled my head away.

  - No!

The vampire's eyes have expanded surprisingly. I tried to speak slowly and calmly. It didn't work out well. The whole body was reduced to desire, but to give in now? Let him control himself like all the other women in his path? Never!

  - I apologize. I said it without thinking. But you shouldn't provoke me. I'm a human being and I've lived far less than seven hundred years. And yet, Daniel and I are friends. We saved each other's lives. I'm entitled to some kind of respect. And I'm not going to tolerate your antics.

Mechislav did not open his arms, but the hug became a little less intimate. I felt, as in his breast deafly beats heart - and mine starts to beat in tact with it. I felt the way of blood in his body as clearly as in mine. It was as if we were dividing our bodies into two. Badly, Jane, very badly. Get it together or you won't get it together later!

  - I accept your apology, Jane. But don't test my patience anymore.

  - And you, mine, I answered.

The vampire smiled, and my lower abdomen spasms. I so wanted to be alone with him. To pull that stupid cape down. Iron my shiny black hair. Touch his naked skin with my hands and taste it. I wanted, I wanted... Jane! No!

  - Tell me, are you all so enchanting? Or am I the only one so spoiled? And anyway, stop hugging me!

The vampire obediently let me go, and I grabbed the back of the seat so I wouldn't fall. The green eyes were laughing.

  - If you were really as spoiled as you say you are, you would now try to make love to me. And you wouldn't even think about the cold outside or the vampires here. You have a very strong will. And I admit you're right. Didn't Danielle warn you about my features?

  - No," I said. And I turned to Daniel. The desire was still walking through my body, but anger is a good antidote. - Danielle, you could have said beforehand that your buddy acts on people as a dose of horse germ!

  - Fi, how rude," commented Miecislav.

  - Are you also a part-time teacher of good manners? What a joy! Danielle, will you answer me?

The vampire had his eyes down.

  - I'm sorry, Jane. I wanted to test your talent - and how much you can control your gift. It was best done here and now.

  I'm sick of being disgusted.

  - Have you decided to do a crash test? You bastard! My eyes wouldn't look at you!

  - Are you going to fight and scandal? - Mieczysław's voice was interested.

I turned around and looked him in the eye for the first time - myself. I do
n't care about any hypnotist in the world when I'm so mad! The rage of the waves dispersed over my body, burning out the last vestiges of common sense and sexual desire.

  - Does it make sense to fight? And it's so clear that you see me... You see people as pets at best! Who's going to consult with a cat?! But I'm not a cat, I'm a living person! I swear to God, you'll learn to respect people before this nightmare is over!

  - You have holy water, - Mechislav reminded me. It seems he's been probing me, too. - Will you try to use force to make us respect you more?

  - Why would that help?! - I did. - There's four of you, and I'm not Jean-Claude. I can't handle them all. And my arm hurts! You almost ripped it off with a gun! Or should I not see your Vadim watching my hands?! He'll break my hand before I take out the gun or the bottle!

  - You're gravely mistaken, Jane, the green eyes laughed.

  - Oh, really?

  - He won't break your hand. A slight dislocation is enough to bring you back to life.

  - Go to hell, all of you!!!

I jumped out of the bus, slipped and awkwardly fell to my knees. Shit! It hurt! But the enemy does not give up our proud "Vikings", no one wants mercy! Somehow I got up and walked towards the camp. If you're lucky, you can get dinner and bed there. And even live a couple of days. Then Grandpa will come back and everything will be back to normal. And anyway, I'm acting on circumstances! I went far enough before Danielle caught up with me. It was as if he was weaving his palm into the air in front of me. I walked around him silently, like a wall, and went on. I shouldn't have gotten involved in all this! From the beginning, you shouldn't have gotten involved!

  - Jane!

  Danielle grabbed my shoulder.

  - Where are you going?

  - Leave me alone! - I got out of his hands. - Go and drink, or there won't be enough blood!

  - Jane, please forgive me! Listen to me! Just for a minute.

Danielle cleverly intercepted me with both hands and held me to him. I tried to kick him, but I just slipped. For some reason, the vampire was standing on ice like a rock. And it was terribly angry.

  - I told you I was a vampire. It's one of the parts. I told you that we're used to using people for our own purposes and treating them like consumables. You missed it! And now you're blaming me?
