Epilogue
Scott
Six Months later
It took us four months to find our perfect family home. It was a little out of our price range but we both made a few sacrifices and eagerly signed on the dotted line. I could have made it easy for us by keeping Deacon’s money, but I’ve never done things the easy way. I also didn’t want to embark on our new life as a family knowing that we relied on him. I don’t rely on my family. A lesson I learnt years ago. The only people I rely on are the ones under this roof.
“Scott, you need to get the fuck out of here,” Sarah shouts through the door.
“Who the hell instructed you to be in charge?” I bark back but she knows I’m joking... I hope.
“Your darling soon-to-be wife. Now get a fucking move on. You’re not even wearing a suit. What could possibly be taking you so long?”
“All right, all right, I’m going.”
The night we moved in here, surrounded by boxes, I dropped to one knee and asked Suki to make it official. I know when she told Morgan that she was my fiancée that it was out of desperation, but from that day forward I saw her as mine. I just needed to bide my time, to do it the right way… the way she deserved. So with a simple princess-cut engagement ring, I asked her to do me the honour of insulting and abusing me for the rest of my life. With a laugh and tears streaming down her face she dropped to her knees with me and said yes. Aside from the day Belle appeared, it was the best fucking day of my life.
I was finally complete. I had my feisty little woman and my incredible daughter. Things couldn’t get any better.
I pull the door to the spare room open and find Sarah on the other side with her hands on her hips. She’s dressed as Suki demanded in a pair of jeans and a blouse and her hair and make-up has been expertly done.
“You look beautiful.”
“Getting second thoughts? Thinking you shouldn’t have passed me up?” she asks with a laugh.
“Nah, you actually like me.” She rolls her eyes, but loops her arm through mine and escorts me to my own front door. “I do know the way, you know.”
“There’s a car waiting at the curb for you. Make sure you go straight there.”
“Where the fuck else would I go?”
“I don’t know. You can be unpredictable.”
“I’ll be there, just make sure she is.” Sarah nods and shuts the door in my face. Nice.
The car she mentioned is actually her husband’s and he sits in the driver’s seat waiting for me. “She really doesn’t trust me to get there does she?”
He laughs but puts his foot down the second I’m inside. “She just thought you deserved better than an Uber on your wedding day.”
My wedding day. The words send chills up my spine. For years I said never. Never to marriage, never to kids, never to the same woman twice. But then with the arrival of one little unexpected package everything changed. And changed for the better. I can’t imagine my life now without the two of them by my side.
Only minutes later, Emmett is pulling into the car park behind the registry office where we decided to say our vows and we’re getting out and heading inside.
I greet the staff and they quickly get me into place with Emmett at my side. Both him and Sarah have been incredibly supportive over the last few months and I couldn’t picture anyone else standing next to me for this.
“Are you ready? She’s here?”
The lady doesn’t wait for an answer. Instead, she turns to leave and the music filling the room changes.
“Last chance to run,” Emmett warns.
“I’m good.” I rub my trembling palms down the front of my trousers and straighten my shirt. Suki point blank refused to allow me to wear a suit. She insisted that she didn’t want all the frills and fuss that comes with a wedding and that if we were doing this, then we were doing it our way. So after a very simple ceremony here, we’re heading to InHale where we’ve got the private function room for the evening to celebrate with our closest friends and family. And that will include Deacon, who turns up once a week to visit his niece and acts almost human when he does so. Though I’ll never completely trust him, so far, for six whole months he’s just spoiled my daughter and then left us in peace. We even talk to each other and I’m slowly realising that my father wasn’t much of one to him either. Looks like Giles Sullivan liked to play us off against each other for his own amusement.
The doors open and a few people rush inside including Jenson and Leah, and my auntie who’s already got a tissue in her hand. Rolling my eyes at her, I focus my attention to the doors once again. No one is more surprised than me when my brother slips through the door, taking a seat at the back. I didn’t bloody invite him, but as his eyes meet mine, we nod at each other.
Sarah appears, dressed as she was earlier, and walks down towards me. Then the music changes once again and my breath catches when she appears.
She told me that she was point blank not wearing white. I told her I didn’t give a fuck what she wore as long as I got to put a ring on her finger, but as she takes her first step, I realise that she was right. White would have been wrong; it’s not her. The short, red lace dress she’s wearing however is so Suki. It’s cut low at the front, giving me a great view of her incredible tits and flares out at the waist until the fabric sits just above her knees. Beside her is Carl, also dressed in his jeans, and in her arms is our baby girl, and she’s the one wearing white.
My breath catches at the sight of my girls walking towards me. My world.
Her walk towards me seems to take forever, but at the same time it seems only seconds later that she hands Belle to Sarah and turns to me.
I forget about the people around us. I forget where we are. I forget that she’s wearing bright-red lipstick and I pull her to me and kiss her like it could be our last. Cheers sound out around us and when I pull back, the registrar is looking at us with an amused smirk, but I don’t give a shit because Suki and I have never done things by the book. We do things our way because it’s the only way that works.
Turning back to my girl, I take in her smeared lips and the love that pours from her eyes as she stares back at me.
“I love you, Sooks.”
“I love you too. Shall we do this then?”
“Fuck yes. Let’s make you mine.”
