  Acknowledgments

A substantial part of Chasing Fire was written in Mexico, specifically, Yelapa, which then became one of the main settings for Chasing Wind. Chasing Fire was a hard book to write at times. I’m not sure why, but certain books are easier than others. Often the more difficult ones become my favorites.

To my wife, Ro, I run out of adjectives . . . but this word sums it up . . . everything.

I also want to acknowledge all my friends and family who put up with my disappearances during my self-imposed exiles while I created these books. It means a lot that you are still there when I emerge from the woods.

Special thanks to my mother, Barbara Blair, for the countless hours she spent going back into the tunnels, and into the fire.

I always appreciate Jack Llartin, my copy editor, for the final sweep.

Thanks to Elena, from L1 Graphics, for another dynamic cover. And to Skip Murphy for granting permission to use his photo for the cover art.

And, finally, to Teakki, who patiently waited to tell me all about Godzilla until I finished writing each day, although he didn’t wait to hum the soundtrack—that was constant.

Mostly, thank you, and all the readers, who make it possible for me to support my family by writing books. These stories are for you, and I owe you more than I can say. I appreciate you spending your time and money to go on these journeys with my characters and me. I look forward to going on many, many more adventures with you.
