  “Friendship love. That’s what you meant, then?”

  “Yes.”

  “And you’re sure?”

  “Of course, I’m sure! You’re a Kiriathan, sir. And a king.”

  She turned away from him, chin up, eyes fastened on the army below them. Amused, he followed the direction of her gaze, taking in the campfires and the tents and the banners floating in the breeze, many of them white, with crude renditions of the dragon and the shield painted upon them. A Kiriathan. And a king.

  Then his smile broadened, and he said softly, “Yes. That is what I am.”
