  ABOUT THE AUTHOR

As a young girl, Shania has always been fascinated with the world of vampires, dragons, fairies, elves and angles. So strong was her fascination that she always felt there is indeed such a world out there. A world where creatures of supernatural powers can transcend beyond time and space, not confined to the rules of the human world, and being able to live for eternity.

In Shania’s writings, you will find an infusion of passionate romance, action and mystery, and sometimes with a touch of suspense. She enjoys creating a dark complex world containing entities of a supernatural or otherworldly nature and being able to bring a romantic flavour to the plot and amongst the characters. It brings her great joy to see her childhood fantasies becoming a reality through the pages that she wrote. Some of her inspirations of writings include Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight series, J.R. Ward’s The Black Dagger Brotherhood series and Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton .

Amity Woods took a breath and then another.

  * * *

She stood motionless in front of the door with stained glass that read in large white letters, President R. Scott.

The former president, Matthew Ferguson, had been forced to resign after Heather Graves, Amity’s best friend, went missing during the fall semester. After his dismissal, the student body had been able to cast votes toward their new leader, but then out of nowhere, all the elected options had been taken away. A mysterious man had filled the position three months ago.

His name was President R. Scott, and that was all the students knew about him.

No student had met him yet, much less seen his face, and all the faculty seemed to be tight lipped where he was concerned. Amity, upon hearing the news about the stolen election, had gathered the student body in the hopes of leading a protest, but all talk ceased when the money started to pour in.

The gym had been the first building to receive a much-needed renovation, and Morwen University’s award-winning hospital was finally getting the children’s cancer wing it had been planning for years. It seemed that alumni from all the states were in favor of the new president and were showing their support very generously.

After that, many of the students thought it best to leave the matter alone, but not Amity. She’d never liked the idea of being led blindly. While money was nice, it wasn’t everything, and she wanted to know just who the man in charge was.

Which was why, when Vice President Angela Gates asked Amity to show the new president around the school, she’d said yes. It was the perfect opportunity to put a face to the name . . . and perhaps get a first name and speak to him about her new campaign.

It was time to meet President R. Scott.

She knocked on the door and waited until she heard a muffled voice tell her to enter.

Amity grabbed the bronze knob, twisted, and pushed the door open.

Light from the wall of windows blinded her for a moment, but as she walked farther into the room, her eyes settled on a young man leaning against the desk. His auburn head was bent as his long, pale fingers touched a sheet of paper that laid on top of the glass surface. He looked up, and Amity choked on her inhale.

His eyes were like none she’d ever seen before. They were dark with a single ring of the lightest shade of blue between the iris and the outer lining. The color was so light it was nearly white, and the rest of his face was just as impressive.

Amity wouldn’t quite call him handsome; she would say his face reminded her of a predator. He simply had one of those faces where—if you saw him in a movie—you knew him to be the antagonist. He was pure sensuality with a full mouth, and even in his dark coral suit, she could see he had a very athletic build. Yet, at the same time, he was very much a villain as well.

His eyes were alluring and hooded; his cheekbones we
re high, and then took a sharp dip into a hard jaw.

He was what wet dreams were made of, but what mammas all over the world warned their daughters about. Staring at him was like staring at candy—totally yummy at first, but it would soon make you sick to your stomach.

Amity could see all of this, and he hadn’t even said a word.

He had to be the president’s assistant. A new student. She guessed his age to be twenty-five or twenty-six, but she wouldn’t go over that. A grad student?

He stared at her just as intently as she’d looked at him, and she didn’t flinch beneath his gaze. She’d dressed for the occasion, and thought she looked nice. Amity had actually put curled to her brunette hair, and the curls fell down her forearms. Her peach, cap-sleeved, V-neck sundress stopped just below her knees, and she’d paired it with a pair of champagne-colored flats.

She’d used minimal makeup. It wasn’t business attire, but she hadn’t wanted to walk around campus in a suit and pair of pumps all day. She still had two more classes before the end of the day.

When his eyes came back up, Amity spoke first. “Hi.”

He blinked his intricate baby blue eyes and said, “Hello.” His accent was foreign, though she couldn’t place it. He had to be an exchange student.

“I’m here to see President Scott.”

“Why?” he asked, as he crossed his arms and leaned farther against the desk. His face held no expression, and though there was no hostility in his voice, the question still irked her.

So what if he was President Scott’s assistant? No one outside of the administrative office had met the man yet. So, she had plenty of reasons to wish to meet him. The first one being she wished to put a face to the name . . . and then put a name to the name, because R. Scott was not working for her. She needed a first name.

“I’m supposed to give President Scott a tour.” He’d been president for three months, so it really didn’t make sense that he hadn’t seen the campus. This only served to upset her more. How could you be president of a school you knew nothing about? How could you preside over people you didn’t know? The entire situation was unacceptable, and Amity could not be bought.

The young man lifted a dark brow. “You are Miss Amity Woods?”

  “I am.”

He frowned and then nodded before pushing off the desk and walking in her direction. She was forced to call it a walk, since it was being done by a man on two human legs, but in reality it looked more like a prowl. His shoulders were so wide and moved in a way that made Amity wish she could watch the muscles underneath his shirt move. It was simply that impressive.

He came to a stop right before her, forcing her to crank her neck way back. She took a breath as she examined his face. His skin was beautiful, and not just because he lacked blemishes, but he seemed to lack pores as well. There was a flawlessness that made him seem almost unreal, as though his skin were porcelain, but she was very sure he was made of flesh and bones. His scent was even more magnificent, smelling of woods and earth. His eyes were cool as he said in a low voice, “I’m ready.”

Amity’s heart jumped high enough that it clogged her throat. “For what?” The words came out strained.

He blinked again, and Amity noticed just how long his dark lashes were. They spread beautifully across his eyes, like perfect fans. “I’m ready for my tour,” he said, clarifying himself.

Amity was sure he’d spoken, but had found herself so completely lost in his eyes that her body went lax and she couldn’t move.

The young man’s mouth twitched and then his fingers touched her cheek. The action was shocking enough, but when he touched her, Amity felt . . . alive. There was warmth in his touch, an awakening that traveled though her and seemed to unlock those places in her brain that usually only coffee had the power to summon into use.

She let out a long breath and then inhaled as her mind was hit with the words he’d spoken. “Your tour?” she asked and then shook her head. “You’re coming with us?”

The slight up tilt of his lips remained as he said, “And who would ‘us’ be?” His fingers remained on her cheek and though Amity knew she should slap his hand away or at least simply take a step back, stepping away from him didn’t seem like a simple task at all. There was something overpowering about his touch that made her knees lock, yet at the same time, made it hard for her to stand.

“‘Us’ is President Scott and me .”

His grin grew another notch, and his lids lowered in a dreamlike way. But just as quickly as the tender expression had come, it was gone. Along with his touch. His grin fell, and his eyes became that of a bold murderer. She’d been lured to him, like a lamb who’d feasted on the grass of the fields, only to be led to the slaughterhouse. His voice was cold. “No one will be joining us, Miss Woods.”

  “W—why?” she asked.

“Because, my dear, I am President Scott.”

  CHAPTER

  TWO

  .

  “Ready whenever you are.” …

  .

Did all young, human women look this delicious?

  * * *

Ronan watched as Amity’s green and gold eyes became a flood of emotions, and he took every last one into memory. Being half vampire and half elf, Ronan rarely experienced blood hunger, but looking at Amity made his stomach feel dreadfully empty. It was as though a pit lay inside him that only she could fill.

She was otherworldly beautiful. Her skin glowed as though she’d found the elixir to bottle up the sun, and her hair smelled like she’d rolled in a field of delicately scented flowers he’d never before smelled. The garment she wore revealed little, yet he was quite sure his creative mind was seeing her rightly. She was taller than the other humans he’d met, which hadn’t been very many.

Amity began to speak and Ronan found himself listening to her voice more than the actual words. The woman did not have a soft voice. In fact, there was boldness to it that rubbed Ronan in all the right places. He did, however, pay attention when her face became stern. “Seriously? I don’t have time for this. Where’s President Scott?”

Ronan stared down at her and was tempted to run his finger across the bridge of her nose. The arch and tip made her look quite innocent, and he found it almost as interesting as her mouth.

Gods help him! Her mouth was perfect, with a perfect double lift at the top.

He wanted to kiss her, but after that first touch, he would not be touching her again.

There had been something about the way she’d felt underneath his fingers. Besides her being soft, he’d felt her very life essence in his hand. Amity was a pure enough at heart to be an elf. There were no guards to her mind or soul, but an openness and clarity that was so bright that, had he been a full vampire, he was sure he’d have been scourged to death.

It was the very kind of attraction he didn’t have the time for. He was only on Earth until his mission was done; once that was complete, he had every plan to leave for Asea.

“What’s your name?” Amity asked impatiently.

His mouth pulled up at the corners despite himself. He liked her fire and wondered if her blood was just as warm. “President Scott.”

She put her hands on her hips and said, “Prove it.”

He frowned. “You’re in my office.”

“How do I know you’re not just his student assistant?”

Student assistant? Ronan hadn’t had instruction in over two hundred years, but knowing he couldn’t very well tell her that, he walked over to the desk and pressed the buttons he’d learned would connect him to his secretary. “Judy?”

She answered after the first ring. “Yes, Mr. Scott.”

Ronan lifted a brow Amity’s way.

Amity flashed her green eyes in a way that said she was unimpressed.

He sighed. “Could you come to my office for a moment?”

“Of course! Would you like me to bring you anything—”

  “No, just yoursel
f.”

  “Be right there.”

Judy, who was ever prompt, opened the door, smiling. She was slightly older than Amity with large blue eyes and short blonde hair that stopped right under her cheeks and swung when she walked. Ronan had been taught that the ring on her finger meant she was married, but he’d guessed that from the photos that took up most of her desk. A man and two boys were with her in many of them.

  “You needed me, Mr. Scott?”

Ronan looked at Amity and saw the color leave her face. Then he turned back to Judy and said, “No, that will be all. You may return to your station.”

She nodded her head though her eyes showed uncertainty as she left.

Ronan walked back over to Amity, who was red with embarrassment, and said, “Ready whenever you are.”
