Amanda’s eyes brimmed with tears. “Anyway, maybe that all sounds silly to you, but I just wanted to say that I’ve never felt this way before. I’m hopeful for my future. Whatever happens next, I know it will be better than anything I could have planned for myself — no matter how many lists I might have written. I guess, in a way, these are my vows. Susan’s heart swelled as the sun ducked toward the glowing line of the Vineyard Sound’s horizon. Soon, their lives would shift toward another future of what-ifs and fears and doubts and endless buckets of love.
