“Good afternoon folks, we’re just…” his dull voice immediately became rich and inviting when he noticed the occupants, “…well, I’ll be damned.”
Jess mouthed a little ‘hi’ and waved coyly at the hulking officer outside of her window.
“Well if that isn’t Jess Daniels come to visit me at my little lonely stretch of the road,” he casually crouched beside the car and removed his hat. He preened his hair and leaned toward the window. Kyle was almost certain that he heard the officer sniff briefly, rudely attempting to inhale as much of Jess’ scent as possible.
“Officer Jarett Briggs,” she spoke in a playful tone. “Waiting for me on my road? How adorable mister, but I can’t stay long.”
Clearly interested in their flirty game of cat-and-mouse, the officer escalated. “Well now, that’s just the thing – I can keep you here as long as I want Ms. Daniels.”
“I bet you say that to all of the girls,” Jess smirked as she intentionally averted her eyes from the muscular cop.
Jarett leaned in. The car creaked noticeably as a beefy forearm rested upon the door’s windowpane. A slight waft of a sweltering, smoky scent crept into the car. It set their blood on edge – this Alpha was ready to breed. “In truth ma’am, no. I wouldn’t waste my time stopping girls if there were even the slightest chance that it meant that a real woman like yourself could slip through my fingers.”
Jess playfully fanned herself. Partially to appear flattered, but fully knowing that it’d send more of her pheromones the Alpha’s way.
“Oooh, me? You don’t want to spend too much time with me,” she spoke in a sultry tone.
The Alpha’s glassy eyes practically leered at the girl in the driver’s seat. Jess shivered as she felt him quickly scan along her bust and hips. He was about to say something further when Kyle loudly cleared his throat and extended a hand in front of his sister.
“Kyle Daniels. I don’t think that we’ve been properly introduced, sir.”
Momentarily pulled back to reality, Jess floundered. “Oh, uh, yeah! This is… my brother Kyle, he’s visiting from Toronto.”
“Hey,” the officer clipped without taking his heated gaze from Jess.
“So is there a reason that you’re stopping us?” Kyle asked calmly, his bravery guttering against the powerful presence of the Alpha. As much as he hated to admit it, being this close to such a strong beast was beginning to cause uncomfortably intense stirrings in Kyle’s mind.
Officer Briggs grunted at him. “Just warning the farms away from the main drag, ‘cause its perfect conditions for floods. Storms have been building up and massive rains could kick out the lowlands from here to Fort Mac. Now, if you’d like a personal escort back to your daddy’s farm…”
“We’re fine officer. Thanks for the tip,” Kyle replied without making eye contact. He was ashamed at how his own body was betraying him when awash in the Alpha’s powerful musk.
“You take care now, Jess. You should give me a call in, let’s say,” Jarett sniffed the air deeply and grinned, “…about a week or two? Let me know when you’re ready to party.” With that, the officer stood up, rearranged his hat neatly on top of his head, and walked back to his patrol car. A massive bulge was evident in his snug fitted pants.
Jess gripped the wheel with white knuckles as they drove past, her mouth agape with shocked surprise.
“Ho. Lee. Shit. Did that just happen? I’m serious, did that really happen!?!”
Kyle cracked his window to get the scent of the Alpha out of the car. The humid air somehow felt cool against his sweltering skin.
“What, some douchebag abused his badge to flirt with my sister? Yeah, that happened.”
“Piss off! He’s a great guy. I bump into him every few weeks at McRorie’s. But he’s cute, right? And Jesus those arms! And those legs! And that chest! And that ass!” Jess was practically glowing as she quickly ran out of parts of Jarett to swoon over.
Kyle said nothing.
“Oh fuck, do you think he knew that I’m due for a heat in a week?”
“Ugh, Jess, come on, I’m right here,” Kyle protested.
“…I mean, Jess Elizabeth Briggs does have a nice ring to it. And his pups would have his gorgeous eyes, right? And watching him cradle one of them in those massive arms of his?” She exhaled in a lascivious manner. Turning to her brother, she rattled her clenched fists against the steering wheel. “Could you just imagine? Like, you could even imagine?!”
He laughed uncomfortably. “We can definitely start planning the wedding tomorrow. Let’s try and get back to dad before the sky opens up?”
As much as he hated to admit it, as an Omega Kyle found Jarett’s presence overwhelming. He felt himself tightening and slippery, eager to be knotted, hot, fast, and hard. Jess evidently did too, considering how much she was squirming in her seat all the way to the city. Kyle desperately tried to put the thought out of his head.
One of the problems with Shale River, he thought to himself, was that it was damned small. If a chance encounter with a random highway patrolman could have this effect upon Kyle’s body, what would happen if he were to run into the one man that he never wanted to ever see again? As much as he was loathe to admit it, Jake was big, handsome, and strong in a way that made Kyle yearn to be explored by his powerful, rough hands.
Somewhat stunned by the filthy line of thinking that he’d embarked upon, the Omega shook his head in an attempted to clear his mind. The uncomfortable thoughts were all just a side-effect of Sherriff Briggs’ powerful Alpha pheromones, weren’t they? He didn’t really want to bed Jake, did he?
This was going to be an interesting trip.
Five
The Daniels twins, Kyle and Jess, arrived home late and spent a good deal of time unpacking toilet paper, bottled water, and the mundane necessities of life that Kirkland supplied. Dinner went well enough. There were no blowouts from their father and he’d even somewhat committed to attempting to use the vaporizer. They had to explain to him a few times that it was rechargeable. He sort of understood what that meant, but nevertheless singed the chrome when he tried to light it.
They exchanged few words during and after dinner. Kyle knew exactly what was going on in his sister’s mind.
That night Jess took nearly forty five minutes in the shower. Passing Kyle in the hall on her way out, she was red-faced and barely managed a clipped “night” before she vanished into her room. When he heard the door to her room lock, it added insult to injury. They were both Omegas who were momentarily in the presence of a powerful, rutting Alpha: Kyle didn’t want to ask and Jess didn’t want to tell.
As he lay awake in his old room, Kyle was upset with how weak his twin sister was against the Alpha’s intoxicating pheromones. Just a few years ago she was doing keg stands in a farm field, getting piercings and ink, and talking about following a local band out to California. But now she wanted to hop into bed with tall, blonde, and handsome and become his den mother.
Kyle wrinkled his nose at the whole prospect and turned fitfully under the hot bed sheets for a while, until he kicked them off entirely. He’d managed to hide it well, but truthfully, he’d had a painfully hard erection since their encounter with the Alpha on the side roads. Rigid and throbbing with hot, lustful blood, Kyle allowed himself to softly trace his palm along his slippery, soaked head. He shuddered with ecstasy at the tease of release. Hating himself for even thinking about it, he reached back and felt his tight little asshole. He was plump and slick, and should he have been truthful with himself, desperately ready to be bred.
Kyle gasped and thrust his face against the sheets as he sunk a finger inside his sweltering ass. He groaned wildly and bit the pillow hard, his cock thrust hard against the mattress, shuddering for release. He imagined a cut, hard Alpha pulling his clothes off, pinning Kyle to the bed and savaging him. He didn’t want words, conversation, or even names. He didn’t want to be safe, or ask for a condom. He didn’t care about tomorrow; his world was all about hard,
hot, and powerful release. Kyle wanted to be bred hard and fast, to feel his lover’s breath upon his neck, his bites upon his shoulder. He wanted to hear strong, masculine groans as he teetered on the edge of sweet, blissful release, knowing that his lithe body was bringing white-hot pleasure to a rutting Alpha buried knot-deep inside his aching asshole.
He was so damned close to cumming as he lazily jerked and ground himself against his childhood bed. The more Kyle imagined a slippery, heated cock sinking deep inside of his bare ass, the more he felt his skin flush with a sweltering glaze.
“Fffuuck yes,” Kyle began to moan uncontrollably as he came closer to release with every thrust against his mattress. A burning warmth spread along his chest and neck, and seemed to work its way like a spiced, heated wine along his body. His cock was steely hard and throbbing.
“Please fill me,” he begged, unsure if his words were just in his mind. Somehow, he didn’t care. With shaking hands, he reached back and spread his ass as wide as it would go, hoping that it would please his lover, hoping that he might entice him to plunge his meat deep in the Omega’s flesh and breed his fertile ass deeply.
“I want to feel you inside so badly,” he groaned as he imagined rough hands holding him down as he was fucked mercilessly.
“Jake, breed me… fill me with your seed…” The words disgusted him as much as they sent shivers of forbidden arousal along his flesh. He was in no condition to question what had slipped out of his mouth. He felt his sweaty composure rapidly collapsing as his gasps for air mirrored powerful bursts and spasms deep inside his loins. Kyle bucked wildly against the bed. Lost totally and entirely to a red hot passion, he sprayed heated dollops of cream inside of his hand, causing rivulets of cum to burst forth from his clenched fist.
Groaning and heaving for breath, he rolled onto his back. He watched as the dark whorls of the moonlit room began to come back into view. A trail of jizz slithered along his side. Red hot against the cool night air, his flagging cock oozed forth a few more impressive bursts before flopping lazily against his belly. His pleasure was over almost as fast as it had begun.
The burning along his flesh began to subside but Kyle had more questions than answers. What in the hell was he doing thinking about Jake, and in that way? Did the pheromones from his sister’s heat throw him off his own game? Frustrated, and somewhat disgusted with himself, sleep evaded him at every opportunity.
Kyle jerked off four more times that night before he finally dozed off in the small, sweaty room.

For the most part, the day started out like any other.
Except that his cheerfully sarcastic sister was weirdly hands-off with her brother. Jess was a little grumpy and in a sour mood. Considering the sweaty night that Kyle had endured, he didn’t want to imagine what her night had been like.
His father was surly too. Now cut off from a conveyor-belt-like habit of chain-smoking, he seemed upset at the smallest inconvenience. The siblings prayed for the strength to overcome the Sisyphean task of attempting to educate their dad on how to use his vaporizer. It would be a long day.
Despite his father’s protestations, “someone” had let Cromwell outside, and when he returned he was flecked with old, dusty mud. Kyle offered to clean him up. When it came time to toss the muddy towel into the washing machine in the basement, Kyle handily included his battle-worn bed sheets from the torrid night before. Within minutes of the washer starting up its tell-tale whom-pah noise, Jess appeared with her bed linens held in a massive ball under her arm. Kyle couldn’t help but stifle a laugh when she crammed the entire load into the washing machine and slammed the lid down hard without once making eye contact.
She took her coffee into the living room and buried her nose in her phone. She was flanked by legions of folksy tchotchkes and trinkets that their late mother had carefully assembled over the years before her death. They were incredibly dust-free, but only because their father spent considerable time carefully dusting each and every one on a set schedule.
The air was humid and musky, like a bedroom the morning after a night of passion. If Kyle could smell it, his Omega sister certainly could as well. Dad’s love affair with tobacco had blunted his ability to perceive the subtle dance of pheromones. Too, his Beta senses weren’t as sharp as an Omega’s or an Alpha’s.
Kyle finished his coffee and idly scribbled Cromwell’s head for a while. He observed a ritual that was common in the Daniels household: his sister snuggled up on the couch texting someone and smiling, while his father peered over his reading glasses to watch The Joy of Painting as he carefully dusted off a platoon of porcelain angels perched on the coffee table.
“Shoot, he’s done and ruined it,” Kyle’s father scowled as the scenic painter spread the beginnings of a dark purple mountain across a pristine skyline. “Far too high. He’ll throw the whole thing off.”
Kyle buried his face in his hands. He wasn’t sure if laughter was appropriate. He thought about all the things he could’ve said to his father at that moment: that television didn’t work two ways, that Bob Ross couldn’t actually hear him, or that the legendary painter had in fact passed away over thirty years ago. He said none of those. Kyle had been away from his family for almost a year but only now became aware of how deeply he had missed the minor quirks and odd workings of his family.
He left the kitchen table and strode into the living room to address his father.
.“Dad… what do you mean about painting too high?”
“No smart talk from you,” he said. “I’m not talking to Mr. Ross, I’m talking to your mother.”
Without looking at them, Jess raised her eyebrows in a way that suggested that Kyle should’ve known better.
“I know this is a recording, son,” his father proudly pointed out. “I’m just watching it with your mother and letting her know that I happen to think that Mr. Ross made that mountain far too high.”
“That’s a good point.” Kyle nodded thoughtfully.
“Mind you, he’ll set it right before the shows over. Always does.”
Kyle found his father’s unfailing confidence in Bob Ross endearing. It was soon becoming one of the many things that he’d missed after leaving town. Even after suffering through such a deep and personal loss, his father could remain in Shale River, Kyle thought. So why couldn’t he?
“I love his seascapes and how he does water.” Jess spoke to nobody in particular.
His father was busy applying a Q-tip to the chipped gold paint of a pegasus’ wings and said nothing.
“Haven’t seen much of those,” Kyle replied. “Or maybe I have and forgot.”
“Oh, you don’t forget his water,” Jess smiled at him. He wasn’t sure if she was being sarcastic or not. Which, in a way, meant that she was back to her usual snarky self.
“I guess not. Maybe I’ll have to catch up.”
Jess was about to return to her phone when Kyle spoke to her.
“You’ve been glued to that thing for quite some time…”
His sister wrinkled her nose playfully and grinned. “You will be very pleased to hear that officer Briggs has offered to give me some dangerous driving lessons at the station after hours. He said he can turn on the floodlights at the track and everything.”
Their father made a soft noise of contentment as the faintest grin creaked along his lips.
Kyle rested his chin on his hand. “Ah, has he now? What a gentlemanly thing to do.”
“You don’t go meddlin’ in your sister’s affairs Kyle,” his father interrupted. “Defensive driving usually costs a few hundred dollars, and Officer Briggs is a gainfully employed, sober Alpha. Big and tall with a proud bloodline. He’s a fine young man.” Their father couldn’t hide his grin even if he wanted to.
Kyle threw his hands up in a surrender motion but his father had already returned to inspecting the artistry on the television. When it came to potential suitors for his children, questioning dad’s judgment was an argument that Kyle could never wi
n.
“So anyhow, yeah, he said we could meet up this weekend. But if that damned rain finally comes in, we may have to push it back.”
“Ah, so that’s why you’re not meeting up tonight then?” Kyle playfully asked, hoping to get a rise out of his sister.
“Oh, we might. He said that he and some of his cop-buddies might check out McRorie’s tonight. Half price wings and ribs.”
“Jesus, why even bother? Four or five of the Alpha patrolmen alone would pick that place clean.”
“I dunno. They’re doing crazy good business, probably from all of the oilers and farmhands. Either way, I’m not turning down a free dinner.”
Kyle laughed a little. “All you can eat wings, iced Bud Light, and Kenny Chesney all night long?”
“Hey now, mister.” His sister frowned at him. “You’ve only been gone like a year. Don’t act like you’re some Bay Street shit-heel too good for suds and country duds.”
Kyle’s eyes went wide with surprise. “Damn, that was really good burn…”
“Let’s just say that I had a feeling that you might come home a little different. Anyhow, you’re more than welcome to tag along. Plenty of hot patrolmen Alphas who I know would be more than happy to meet the Omega twins.”
“You know what, maybe that might work.” Kyle took a deep breath and leaned back against the couch, lost in his thoughts. He’d never told anyone, but McRorie’s was still flush with vibrant memories. Perhaps too vibrant. After a particularly hard night of drinking, he, Jake, and Tyler had run afoul of some out of town biker Alphas who were spoiling for a fight. Both massive, Jake and Tyler gave it three times as good as they got it. And while they chased the runts off, they were pretty beat up. Having had less to drink than they did, Kyle found himself treating the two of them in his father’s barn. He remembered scolding the two shirtless hunks to remain still as he bandaged them up.
Tyler had a nasty cut on his chin that required sutures, and it took all of Kyle's patience and training to stitch his friend up with minimal scarring. The Alpha, of course, wanted a ‘kick ass’ scar to impress the cute boys. But it would, sadly, be one that none of them would ever see. Protecting his friends and community, Tyler died in the wildfires that tore across the outskirts of Shale River not ten days later.
