“Tell me it's a Vogue issue” Charice joked, causing Becca a smile.
“No, I'm afraid it's a little less glamorous,” she said, handing her an old leather-bound book. “My father started this tradition and I thought it would be good to continue with it.”
"You don't stop surprising me, where is my friend from college?”
“I'm afraid that Becca is very dead, Chas, but I really like this one best,” she laughed. “I have to leave. I promise that I will return very soon. Take care of yourself, please.”
“I promise you, majesty,” Charice joked, trying to hide her tearful eyes again. “Becca!” she shouted just before she disappeared.
“Yes?” she answered, turning to look at her.
“Do you think the world should know?”
“Know what?”
“Everything. I mean, God is not there and all that. Maybe it would be the end of all those absurd wars in the name of faith, don't you think?”
“The truth is that I also thought about it, Chas,” Becca said, looking at her tenderly, “but the reality is that, in those wars, God is only man's poor excuse for releasing the worst of himself. We will always be what we are, with or without God. Besides, I think it is good that man can continue to believe that when he looks at the sky, someone is looking back.”
And as quickly as she had arrived, Becca disappeared leaving Charice alone who sat on one of the library sofas playing with the book in her hands. Finally she decided to open it and, as expected, the book was blank. She bent down to pick up one of the glass broken pieces that were on the floor and with it she made a small cut on the thumb. She pressed her finger against the first page of the book and, as if by magic, letters of a beautiful red colour began to fill the page allowing Charice to read the content:
I am Rebecca, daughter of an immortal, stem of heaven, lady of hell, guardian of the light of God, daughter of Lucifer, and this is my story.
